Hangman Plus includes a realistic looking pirate (?) on a dock with gallows (??) in an isolated cove of Treasure Island (???). It's the classic game of hangman with features that make it especially suitable for educators and language studies. The included Word List contains over 3000 words and phrases. You can customize or replace the Word List. Future versions will include character sets for languages other than English, such as: French, German, Spanish, and others.

This app has a very simple and intuitive interface.

Instructions:
Hangman Plus opens to the main "game" page.

    The top section of the main page holds the hangman graphic. Below that is a panel for the Game Word or Phrase. Tapping the Game Word panel will show the solution to the current game or begin a new game.
    Beneath the Game Word panel is a Scroll Box holding letters of the alphabet used in the solution. There is extra space on both the left and right sides of the Scroll Box to allow easy scrolling without accidentally pressing one of the letters. Letters will be disabled and grayed once they have been chosen during a game.
    Tapping the Android Menu key will open a menu with choices for Settings, displaying the Word List, and displaying an About page.
    Pressing the Settings icon opens a page where you can select the number of guesses allowed in a game and the length of the words and phrases that are used. Use the Android Back key to exit the Settings page. Settings are remembered between runs of the Hangman Plus application.
    The Word List page shows the entire selection of game words. The default Word List contains over 3000 words and phrases. You can modify the game Word List - see the app's about page. Tapping one of the rows of the Word List page brings up the Word List Actions menu. Here you can choose to Add a new word or phrase to the list, edit the word or phrase that you tapped, delete the tapped word or phrase, or delete the entire Word List and file. If you delete the Word List file, a new Word List file will be re-created from the 3000+ entry default Word List that is provided with the application. Be sure you have a backup copy before you delete a custom Word List or a Word List that you have modified - once it's deleted, it's gone.
    Choosing the About menu item shows the help and instructions page.

This app is a tool to aid you in completing the cryptograms you might find in your daily newspaper. You supply the puzzle, and substitute letters in by tapping on the screen. This free version contains no cryptograms of its own -- you enter them. The software itself is just an alternative to pen-and-paper solving.

The size and padding of the letters is customizable, so if you find that your tapping aim is off, you can increase the target area.

If you can think of ways to improve this app without taking away the fun and challenge of deciphering cryptograms, I'd love to hear about them via email.
