Background service to add support for variable speed or pitch for playback of MP3 and Ogg Vorbis files.  AAC is not supported due to existing patents.

I have been informed that the following apps have added support for Presto:
- BeyondPod
- DoggCatcher
- PodTrapper
- Pocket Casts

The Presto developer is a different developer from those applications.  Those developers are not responsible for Presto's implementation, bugs, or cost.

Presto is still in beta.  Bugs are listed at the end of this description.  Please e-mail me if you find new bugs.  I apologize for the lack of updates; I bit off way more than I can chew this semester.  Work is ongoing, but I can only spare a few hours at a time on some Mondays.  Please be patient.

Apps using Presto must be restarted after upgrading Presto.

Download problems are a problem with the Android Market, not with Presto.  See these pages for potential solutions:

For developers:  See the home page for nearly drop-in code that replaces android.media.MediaPlayer, using Presto when available, or gracefully degrading to use the default Android MediaPlayer when not.

Known bugs (please e-mail me if you find any new ones or any of these impact you too severely; I have no means to  respond to Market comments).  Asterisks (*) indicate bugs that have not been observed in a while; please e-mail me if you encounter them so I can confirm they are not fixed.

Remember that sending an e-mail is a lot more likely to get a problem fixed than anything else (such as posting a comment).

Internet access is necessary to play files from the Internet; before ICS, this was inherited from the calling app, but ICS changed this.

Pay version of Practice Makes Perfect. Remove advertisements, adds speed up/slow down/pitch change, and takes up slightly less space. If you have Practice Makes Perfect 1.3.8 installed, your sections will automatically be imported.

Comparable to Amazing Slow Downer plus Musical Trainer for iPhone (not affiliated)

Promotional version of Osplay with the following limitations:
Audio stream periodically interrupted with advertisement for full version
Limited of 20 track sets
Limited of 50 different tracks played
Speed adjustment limited to between 0.8 and 1.25
Notification at app start reminding that it is a trial version

Any bookmarks or history you create with the trial version will be imported into the full version when you buy it.

Save time by speeding up audiobooks or podcasts in MP3 or Ogg Vorbis format. (MP4 audio and WAV will play, but cannot be sped up.) Pitch maintained when an audiobook or podcast is made faster.

Play entire albums, artists, playlists, or directories in order.  Track position saved and restored between plays.  Saves bookmarks and navigation history in or between files.

Permissions:
Access Network State: Used to detect airplane mode and not use Internet.

Internet:  Analytics, license validation.

Read Phone State:  Automatically pause when call received.

Wake Lock:  Keep CPU awake while playing audio.

Metronome: Audio correct, video best-effort.

Sectionizer: Break a piece of music into pieces, then play some subset of them repeatedly.  The premium version adds speed and pitch alteration. (Early users have speed control from this version)
