Alien Names (v. 1.2)

WHAT IT IS: ALIEN NAMES generates fanciful but usually pronounceable or at least readable names of aliens, planets, worlds, places, galaxies ... whatever YOUR imagination conceives of and needs to label.

WHAT IT DOES: This app is really a creativity generator and enhancer for science fiction writers, game developers, comic book authors, role playing gamers, et al. The trillions of possible names you can generate with this app are yours free to use.

HOW IT WORKS: ALIEN NAMES uses patterns of consonants (C) and vowels (V) in creating names. The patterns in this app produce a wide range of amazing alien words. More patterns are being developed and tested for forthcoming upgrades.

BUT SOME START DIFFERENTLY THAN THE PATTERN? To makes names even more ‘alien’ I have a variable I call PREPEND that randomly adds something to the front of the pattern, but the basic patterns match what’s on the pattern button, such as CVCVC.

30 YEARS IN THE MAKING: I first published versions of this technique in RECREATIONAL COMPUTING in 1980 and in onCOMPUTING magazine later that same year. The program was also mentioned in the February 1980 ISAAC ASIMOV’S SF Magazine.

BASIC NAMES: In 1985 I released a compiled BASIC program also called ALIEN NAMES as shareware. For a decade and more, I got the occasional check, some from places like South Africa, Germany, and other countries.

REBOL with a cause:  In 1999, I wrote ALIEN NAMES yet again using the powerful REBOL scripting language. (rebol.com, "It's Perl without the complication.") I also wrote a book about REBOL entitled REBOL FOR DUMMIES.

NEW WORLDS: Time marches on. As I discover new scripting languages, ALIEN NAMES often gets coded first just to see the language's flexibility. I learn by playing ;-).

Some implementations require effort, others do not. REBOL was easy. Doing it in HTML/OS was incredibly fast and simple. I’ve also done PHP and Python versions.

Now, here it is for Android devices, created with App Inventor. And please watch for my forthcoming book, GOOGLE APP INVENTOR BY EXAMPLE.

The mNotepad is a text editing application ideal for Android users who work with multiple text sources at the same time. The mNotepad allows the user to use type notes into the app and save them as text documents. The unique feature of this application is that the user can create and open multiple notes through the tabbed interface. The notes browser curtain lists all created files. User can swipe / tap on curtain launcher and can select the required file. File operations can be done by selecting menu option. The file operations provided in this application are saving of file, deleting of file, renaming of file, emailing of the file. Users can close the tab by selecting close tab option in the menu. Font option is provided wherein users can increase the size of the text.
Another new feature is that each note saved in the device can also be saved on the on the Evernote file store. The Evernote credentials can be entered through the menu.

Precisely calculates the runtime of your nitro powered R/C vehicle, yet is very simple to use and understand. Pit strategy is often overlooked, and if done incorrectly can result in lost time due to excessive pit stops or lap(s) lost due to flame outs for track position making your results not as great as they could be. To use this app you just enter in a few numbers and the app will tell your maximum runtime. The app will also calculate your pit strategy for your main event race listing the times you should pit and also the amount of runtime 'difference' that you have to work with. The app also provides information for a 'risk it' pit strategy if you are feeling confident based on your maximum runtime and the race length.

This information is very beneficial for your pit man to know so that they know if they can, and for how long, that they can keep you out longer on the track for to avoid pit lane congestion to save time or to allow you to run on some clear track to gain time on your competitors. This app also provides your pit person the knowledge and flexibility to change your pit strategy during your race depending on your fuel consumption. We also provide information on where you can purchase a measuring device to calibrate your fuel tank's capacity. This device will also be used to measure your fuel consumption to calculate your runtime.

Don't give away track position in your races. Achieve better results by using the same method the factory drivers have used for years, and continue to use, at every race by extracting the maximum potential from your race car in a much easier to use format.

ContactIO - Contact Sharing (v. 1.4.3)

Using the standard Android platform, it's difficult to share a selection of your contacts with other people. Although individual contacts can be exported to a vCard, there is no simple and easy way to share a subset of your contacts with other people.

With ContactIO, Contact Sharing becomes easy, as it allows you to share a selection of your contacts with other people by exporting and sending them in an easy way, using a variety of formats.

Simply select the contacts that you want to share, and have ContactIO share the contacts in a variety of different ways

* have ContactIO generate an email with a vCard attachment including your selected contacts.
* have ContactIO generate a vCard and put it on the filesystem / dropbox.
* have ContactIO generate an MMS with a vCard attachment (needs to be supported by your phone).
* have ContactIO generate an SMS/MMS with your contacts embedded in it.

Share the selected contacts by sending the email/file/sms to one or more recipients from your contact list.

Using ContactIO, you can import/export all your contacts from your address book in bulk from one phone to another.

ContactIO copies telephone/cellphone numbers, email / postal addresses, and organizational information.

It allows you to export it to a vCard 2.1 format that can be interpreted by other Android phones.

That way, selective contact sharing (with a clean email integration) becomes very easy.

On the receiving end, the vCard can be processed using ContactIO directly from the mail application. The receiver will be presented with a screen containing the contacts sent to him/her, allowing the receiver to select whatever contacts that he/she wants to import onto the phone.

ContactIO also allows you to process vCards located on the phone SDCard.
By doing so, ContactIO allows you to inspect the vCard and select the contacts you're interested in to import on your phone.
