Probably the best Sudoku app around, the key features of SudokuAssistant are:

a) it can analyse all the cells in a Sudoku and inform you which numbers are possible in the cells (the green dots indicate which numbers are possible: 1 top-left -> 9 bottom-right).  Alternatively, red dots can be used to show which numbers are impossible.
b) it can fill in all the cells that have only one possible number based on this analysis, so saving you time and effort.
c) it can give you a clue on what to do next - suggest a cell for you to look at.
d) it can provide you with a detailed hint on what to do next - and then do it for you if you request it to do so.
e) it keeps a record of what you’re doing, and lets you go back a step at a time if you think you’ve made a mistake, or go right back to the beginning.
f) it can check and highlight errors.
g) it can solve the Sudoku for you automatically if you just want the solution for some reason.

A version of Rubik's ingenious invention from TopAccolades.

You can rotate the sides and rotate the cube, and even undo the moves you've made.

We introduce four tools, or sequences of moves, that each have their own Run buttons and Reverse buttons. These tools - Flipper, Swapper, Twister and Looper - are invaluable when trying to solve Rube Cube.

We also introduce the Wolstenholme notation for moves, show you an approach to solving the cube using the four tools, and provide you with ways of remembering these tools and the approach.

Peg Solitaire (v. 1.4)

Traditional peg-jumping game where you try to get down to one peg remaining in the middle.

In addition to the classic initial layout, with 32 pegs and one empty hole in the middle, the application can also generate initial layouts with 6, 8, 10 or 12 pegs.  This makes the puzzle quicker and easier to solve - but still a great challenge.

Has an undo facility in case you change your mind - also very useful for large fingers and/or small screens.

Has a Solve feature to show you how to solve any of the initial puzzles, including the full one.

We also discuss and present a solution to the full Peg Solitaire, and introduce the Wolstenholme notation and mnemonics designed to help you remember how to solve it.

Numberskull is an original puzzle from TopAccolades, designed by David Wolstenholme.

Place the 9 numbers in the bottom-right corner onto the empty white squares, and any of the four arithmetic operators onto the empty grey squares to complete 6 equations - 3 left-to-right and 3 top-to-bottom.

There is always a unique solution. The answer can be found methodically, with no guessing required, using arithmetic and, if appropriate, logic, to determine the positions of the numbers.

Hangman (v. 1.3)

Hangman is a computerized version of the traditional pencil-and-paper spelling game, in which you try to identify a hidden word by selecting letters. If you select a letter that isn't in the word, the Hangman diagram gets another component added to it. Try to identify all the letters of the word before the diagram is complete and the man is hanged.

You can try to identify a word proposed by the system (over 6500 words available), or play against someone else, where one of you chooses the word.

Pentad (v. 1.5)

Pentad is an original letter and word game based on Word Squares for up to 4 players - but also a great pastime for one person. It has three phases.

Positioning phase:
Randomly selected letters must be placed on a 5x5 grid until the grid is full, with the intention of making valid words from 2-5 letters long, and of maximizing the overall score.

Swapping phase:
The player then swaps two pairs of letters to optimize the words formed. The player should, of course, be planning for this in the positioning phase.

Scoring stage:
In the scoring stage, words are selected. There are bonuses for words covering the middle square and for 5-letter words. Selected words may be challenged, changed or removed.

Overall, a great way to pass the time for those who also like Scrabble and other word games - challenging and frustrating.
