If you are a cheap-o and you want to monitor WoW status then you might find this app useful.

The widget disables itself after 15 updates, tapping the graphic will re-enable it.  

If don't know how to use Widgets, long press the homescreen and select "Widgets" then scroll to the ones that say WoW.

This widget tracks server status for all US and EU servers.  

A user-definable mp3 can be set to play when a down server is back up.

The user specifies how often the server status will be updated.  

Tapping on an orb will toggle the update service on and off.  

Server status is shown by either a red, green or grey orb.
