Feel free to request any features that you would like to see, and I will try my best to implement them.
Just started learning Java & Android the last week of March...will add more features as I learn more.
Quick Explanation: - Select a New Testament verse from the spinners at the top of the page - The hint option will show just the first five words of a verse. - Available versions: KJV, NIV, NKJV, NASB; all versions but KJV require internet connection - Increment/Random/MyVerses: define how to determine the next verse when you get a verse correct (from selecting [Check]) or select [Next]; 'Increment' proceeds sequentially through a book; 'Random' proceeds randomly through a book; 'MyVerses' proceeds randomly (weighted) by user-added verses.
MyVerses: This application will help you learn one verse at a time ( function similar to flash cards ). Add learned verses that can be referenced from the MyVerses option. When reviewing 'MyVerses', draw a 'Check' gesture if you know the verse, and a 'Caret' gesture if you have difficulty with the verse. The program will show trouble verses more frequently. You can add either a single verse or a whole chapter to the database for 'MyVerses'.
Why Memorize Scripture ? Eccl 12:13-- "...Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man." James 1:22-- "But be ye doers of the Word..." Man is called to obedience of his Word. How can be follow his Word if we don't know it. Psalms 119:11 "Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee."
My Memorization A year ago I decided to memorize the whole new testament rather than learning a few popular verses here and there. I wrote a java app for the computer to assist me and then decided it would be helpful to have a mobile version to use on the go. I learn a new chapter every week (every two weeks if chapter is long). I learn verses in blocks of five. I'll first get to where I can recall the rest of each verse by looking at the five verses. I typically will do this for 10 to 20 verses in a sitting. Once I have that part down, then I memorize the first five words of each verse (in groups of five) in order. It usually takes < 2 hours per week to learn the new verses. The difficult part is long-term memory recall and verse indexing, the real reason I needed this app. I can go in increment mode to test a chapter at a time and mark which verses I'm having trouble with (so they show up more frequently in 'myverses' mode). Or I can use 'myverses' mode to randomly (weighted by which verses are more troublesome for me) to work on my verse indexing (so I can recall a verse in the middle of a chapter quickly without stepping in my mind through the whole chapter to get to that verse).
