One of the more interesting aspects of learning English is the use of Collective Nouns. One can always say 'a group of things'; however, it is better to use a Collective Noun for the group.
The Collective Noun is the alternative word for the group of the Noun (Object). Thus, one can say 'an herd of cows' to mean a group of cows, or more obscurely, 'a parliament of crows'. You cannot guess the correct Collective Noun - derivation is lost in the mists of time!
This English Collective Nouns app displays the Collective Noun for the given Noun (Object)- there may be more than one. In this Pro version, you can change the sort order, colour of the columns, and text size via the menu.
Long clicking on the Collective Noun copies the Collective Noun to the clipboard. Whilst, Long Clicking on the Object Noun copies 'a {group} of {things}' to the clipboard. If the Collective Noun starts with a vowel or 'h' (formal English) 'an' is used.
In order to aid Mandarin speakers, the Noun is translated into Pinyin and also displayed in Simplified Mandarin. However, some of the Nouns do not exactly match Chinese equivalents due to the differing language concepts.
