Known problem: the application can crash when flipping through the charts. This is a memory problem where too many charts are loaded without removing the old ones. I need to unload older charts before loading new ones.

Barograph displays the air pressure in millibar or inHg of the last 24 hours in a graph. You can enable a storm alarm, show the history of the past week and correct the pressure to sea level with a fixed altitude or using the altitude from the GPS. Works only on android devices that have a barometric sensor, like the Motorola Xoom, Galaxy Nexus, Galaxy Note or the Sony Xperia Active (Please let me know if there are other devices that have a barometric sensor).

**DISABLE THE COMPASS LAYER TO LOCK THE COMPASS ROTATION**

StormEye provides detailed information about the storms around you using a compass.  For each storm near you, StormEye tells you important information like the storm's location relative to your location, where the storm is heading, the storm's intensity, hail probabilities, and maximum hail size.

PLEASE READ: It seems that the National Weather Service has only been updating data when there are storms, probably to balance the load on their servers.  So, if the data is out of date then there are likely no storms for your area.

NOTE: You may get a warning about data being old.  That means that StormEye successfully downloaded the data, but the National Weather Service's latest available data was old.  This is an issue with the NWS, not StormEye.

StormEye works by determining your current location using GPS or the network and then downloading data from the National Weather Service for the closest weather radar to your location.  That data is then used to construct a weather radar with markers and storm tracks for every detected storm.  The radar and storm tracks are displayed using a compass for easy orientation of where the storms are from your location.

StormEye Features:

The myBeachCast mobile application provides real-time information on beach advisories and closures, weather, and water conditions for states around the Great Lakes. The app allows users to discover local beaches based on location, save favorite beaches, and view corresponding weather conditions and five-day weather forecasts. The app is initially being designed for the Android platform but a mobile-friendly enhanced website (http://beachcast.glin.net) will offer complementary information for other mobile platforms (coming in 2012).

The Android application was developed with funding from the US Environmental Protection Agency  through the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative.  LimnoTech (www.limno.com) developed the application in collaboration with the Great Lakes Commission (www.glc.org) and the Great Lakes states.  

The beta version of the application, released in August 2011, retrieves beach advisory data from the states of Michigan, Indiana and Ohio, all of which use the common BeachGuard database system to report beach advisories and closures from local health departments. BeachGuard is the central portal for local health departments to report results of routine monitoring at local beaches and to post advisories in the event of unsafe bacteria levels. For more information on monitoring programs and monitoring frequency you can click on the “external link” option on the beach details page in the application.

Known Issues
- The application icons may not display well in landscape view.
- Search may not complete if user has a poor data connection.  Try repeating the search or use Wifi.
- **FIXED 8/24/11** Force close when using the back button when navigating back to myBeachCast from an external application (e.g. web browser or map)
- Five-day weather forecast loads slowly. This is caused by the icons being loaded every time.
- **FIXED 8/16/11** External links for Michigan beaches do not work.

Currently Michigan, Indiana, and Ohio are “live” in the application.  Illinois will be live in early 2012.  Wisconsin, Minnesota, and New York are expected by mid 2012.

This program calculate the distance between you and the lightning by using an easy to use interface.
It will show the distanse in meter or feet, and a history of the 5 last distances will give you an indication of the movement of the lightning.

Science of Lightning:
Lightning is an atmospheric electrostatic discharge (spark) accompanied by thunder, which typically occurs during thunderstorms,and sometimes during volcanic eruptions or dust storms.
From this discharge of atmospheric electricity, a leader of a bolt of lightning can travel at speeds of 220,000 km/h (140,000 mph), and can reach temperatures approaching 30,000 °C (54,000 °F), hot enough to fuse silica sand into glass channels known as fulgurites which are normally hollow and can extend some distance into the ground.
There are some 16 million lightning storms in the world every year. Lightning causes ionisation in the air through which it travels, leading to the formation of nitric oxide and ultimately, nitric acid, of benefit to plant life below.
Lightning can also occur within the ash clouds from volcanic eruptions, or can be caused by violent forest fires which generate sufficient dust to create a static charge.
How lightning initially forms is still a matter of debate: Scientists have studied root causes ranging from atmospheric perturbations (wind, humidity, friction, and atmospheric pressure) to the impact of solar wind and accumulation of charged solar particles. Ice inside a cloud is thought to be a key element in lightning development, and may cause a forcible separation of positive and negative charges within the cloud, thus assisting in the formation of lightning.
The irrational fear of lightning (and thunder) is astraphobia. The study or science of lightning is called fulminology, and someone who studies lightning is referred to as a fulminologist.
