StormEye (v. 1.2.0) Разработано Cody D. Smith |
**DISABLE THE COMPASS LAYER TO LOCK THE COMPASS ROTATION**
StormEye provides detailed information about the storms around you using a compass. For each storm near you, StormEye tells you important information like the storm's location relative to your location, where the storm is heading, the storm's intensity, hail probabilities, and maximum hail size.
PLEASE READ: It seems that the National Weather Service has only been updating data when there are storms, probably to balance the load on their servers. So, if the data is out of date then there are likely no storms for your area.
NOTE: You may get a warning about data being old. That means that StormEye successfully downloaded the data, but the National Weather Service's latest available data was old. This is an issue with the NWS, not StormEye.
StormEye works by determining your current location using GPS or the network and then downloading data from the National Weather Service for the closest weather radar to your location. That data is then used to construct a weather radar with markers and storm tracks for every detected storm. The radar and storm tracks are displayed using a compass for easy orientation of where the storms are from your location.
StormEye Features:
• automatically finds your location using GPS or network
• the dot at the center of the compass is your location
• weather radar and storm tracks within the compass
• choose from nearby NWS radar sites
• many visual indicators, including:
- length of the storm track indicates storm speed
- purple square for a storm marker indicates hail storm
- yellow tick marks indicate directions to distant storms
- average storm heading arrow on outside of compass
- arrow indicating the direction your device is facing
- ... and more!
• tab panel for quick access to storm list and options
• details provided about every storm, including:
- distance and direction from your location
- heading direction and speed
- max dBZ and rain rate
- probability of hail and several hail
- max hail size
• multiple weather radar types, including:
- Base Reflectivity
- Composite Reflectivity
- Base Velocity
- Storm Relative Velocity
- Storm Total Precipitation
• displays county and state borders
• displays range rings around your location
• zoom in and out on the weather radar and compass
• toggleable layers to choose what is displayed
• supports all 50 U.S. states, Puerto Rico, and Guam
• tablet optimized display mode
• estimated time of arrival (ETA) for approaching storms
• display warning polygons:
- Red = Tornado Warning
- Yellow = Severe Thunderstorm Warning
- Green = Flash Flood Warning
- Orange = Special Marine Warning
View StormEye's internal help dialog for more information.
StormEye only supports the United States because the National Weather Service is the source of the weather radar and storm data.
I need your feedback! Feel free to leave whatever rating you believe StormEye deserves, but if it is less than 5 stars then please send an email to smith.cody.d@gmail.com and explain. I can't fix issues and make StormEye better for everyone if I don't know about the issues!
[2012-04-08] Maxx: My recommendation to friends If I were only getting one weather radar app, paid or free, I would get StormEye and recommend it to friends as well. It's easily worth $3-5 relative to other apps out there, I've purchased enough to know! Thank the dev that it's free! It actually offers some very handy features that even the most technical and expensive apps don't. The initial usability and usefulness is phenomenal, with plenty of room to grow with the user as they invest time in learning about weather radar and phenomenon. |

Last night it allowed me to track tornado warned storms and make an informed decision on when to have my family seek shelter. Although we were spared by a few miles, we were all prepared and knew exactly when it was safe to leave the shelter. Thank you so much for this valuable tool! |

|
[2012-01-09] B: Great concept, but.... I really wish there was a way to make the image stick to the north. Having it rotating and spin every time I move makes it hard to see the radar. If there was anyway to make the radar bigger that would be awesome. All in all good app, but the the few issues it does have are pretty frustrating. |
