This application calculates the kinetic energy for rifles, handguns, and shotguns.  Any caliber can be used as long as the muzzle velocity and bullet mass (weight) are known.  The Ballistic Energy Calculator is especially useful for comparing hunting rounds and comparing personal defense rounds.  In general, the more kinetic energy a bullet has, the more energy will be released into your target.

This app gives a choice of two unit systems, US Customary and SI (metric).  The US Customary option allows velocity input in terms of feet per second (ft/s) and bullet mass input in terms of grains (gr).  Kinetic energy is calculated in foot pounds (ft/lbf).  The SI (metric) option allows velocity input in terms of meters per second (m/s) and bullet mass in terms of grams (g).  Kinetic energy is calculated in joules (j).
