Kaplan Medical Terms for Nurses includes:

昭和20年8月15日、終戦の日に昭和天皇から国民に示されたのがこの「終戦の詔書」である。
「敵ハ新ニ残虐ナル爆彈ヲ使用シテ頻ニ無辜ヲ殺傷シ慘害ノ及フ所真ニ測ルヘカラサルニ至ル」や「朕ハ時運ノ趨ク所堪へ難キヲ堪へ忍ヒ難キヲ忍ヒ以テ萬世ノ爲ニ太平ヲ開カムト欲ス」などが有名。

昭和16年12月8日、日本は米英両国に対して宣戦を布告した。その際、昭和天皇が国民に示したのがこの開戦の詔書である。有名な「今や不幸にして米英両国と釁端（きんたん）を開くに至る、洵に巳むを得ざるものあり。豈（あに）朕が志ならむや」を再読し、当時の我が国の置かれた苦しい状況を思い起こそうではありませんか。
