On the initial install it may take a few seconds to load all of the ICD9 codes to your device but after that it is blazing fast because local storage = no network calls or need to use the mobile phone network.

This application contains the latest ICD9 codes, updated for Fiscal year 2011. The application contains a list of new codes, as well as all of the existing ICD9 codes. It allows you to bookmark individual codes down to the the 5th digit. The search is full text including the code, and you can even add your own notes. It works in airplane mode as you have to turn off your wireless connection in most hospitals which is a plus. This app also does interface with any other phone features like calling, messaging, or browsing which means your data and searches are safe!

Acid reflux occurs when the stomach releases its liquid back into the esophagus, causing inflammation and damage to the esophageal lining.

The acid most often consists of a few compounds: acid, bile, and pepsin. Stomach acid is used in the digestion of food and can be a major irritant to the esophagus due to its tendency to damage tissues.

Bile is created in the liver and may back up into the stomach, causing it to be released. Pepsin, the last common compound, is actually an enzyme which helps to kick-start the stomach into breaking down proteins.

Once afflicted with acid reflux, a person will generally continue to face the disease for the rest of his or her life.

The Esophagitis which is caused by acid reflux can also be expected to be a life-long problem. Once treatment for acid reflux has begun, a patient is usually advised to continue taking the medication for as long as they want to prevent the disease from affecting them.

It may surprise you to know that research has shown most people experience a minor form of regurgitation on a fairly frequent basis.

However, those afflicted with acid reflux have a higher acid content in the liquid brought into the esophagus than the liquids of a person who doesn’t have the disease. The fluid also often stays in the esophagus for longer periods of time.

Arthritis is a general term which is commonly associated with a number of painful conditions affecting the joints and bones.

The term "arthritis" literally translates to "joint inflammation."

There are approximately 100 different forms of this condition, and it affects millions of people throughout the world.

Symptoms can include joint pain, stiffness, inflammation, and limited movement of joints. When a joint is inflamed, it may be swollen, tender, red, or warm to the touch.

In a healthy joint, the ends of the bones are covered by cartilage, a spongy material that allows almost frictionless motion between bones.

The joints are enclosed in a capsule and lined with tissue called the synovium. This lining releases a slippery, lubricating fluid that helps the joint move smoothly and easily.

With arthritis, the cartilage may be damaged or worn away by degenerative processes or by inflammation, making movement painful and difficult.

If left undiagnosed and untreated, arthritis may progress to cause irreversible damage to the joints.

Contrary to popular belief, arthritis affects all age groups. It's more common in those over forty-five, and in the case of osteoarthritis, three-fourths of the cases occur in women.

Your heart pumps blood throughout your body using a network of tubing called arteries and capillaries which return the blood back to your heart via your veins.

Blood pressure is the force of the blood pushing against the walls of your arteries as your heart beats.  

There are two types of high blood pressure, primary hypertension and secondary hypertension.  

Primary hypertension accounts for 95% of hypertension and has several contributing factors.  Secondary hypertension occurs when there is a malfunction in one of the body's organs or systems.

Primary (or essential) hypertension can be attributed to a variety of factors. Roughly 30% of cases can be attributed to genetic factors.  For example, high blood pressure affects more African-Americans than Asians or Caucasians.  

In addition, there can be a hereditary factor.  You're twice as likely to suffer from high blood pressure if either of your parents had it.
