American Civil War Gazette (v. 1.5.1) Разработано Vinyard Studios |
LIVE FROM THE BATTLEFIELD AT GETTYSBURG - FROM 150 YEARS AGO - TELEGRAMS - WAR CORRESPONDENT REPORTS
- A live streaming event with telegrams and correspondent reports of Lee's second invasion of the North that led to the Battle of Gettysburg.
With the advent of the 150th anniversary of the American Civil War (ACW) upon us, this is a simple app + widget that will unfold the news headlines and events of the ACW in real-time as they occurred.
This app recreates the experience of what it would have been like to read the headlines and news stories unfolding day-by-day... much like the BBC or New York Times widget do for news today.
American Civil War Gazette incorporates articles from both Northern and Southern newspapers. However, with the advantage of hindsight ACW Gazette attempts to have the stories reveal on the date (and time where possible) of the actual events rather than on the actual date of publication... which was often several days after the actual event.
To add the widget to your home screen, find a screen that has one complete row clear and hold your finger on the screen until the "Add to Home" menu pops up.
Then, select "Widget" and "American Civil War Gazette". The widget is live and will update every 30 minutes.
To see the full article, tap on the widget.
Hopefully, you will find this little experiment intriguing, educational and/or insightful.

[2013-08-08] A Google User: Double payment demanded, CWG ignores contacts CWG response below is double talk. Let me repeat. I paid for the extra edition. It worked for several weeks. Then suddenly last week every thing changed. My full access to the stories--the access I had paid for---was no longer available. I was limited to a small number of free reads.,The rest contained only a message that if I wanted to read them, I would have to buy the extra edition. Let me repeat. I already had bought the extra edition. CWG was demanding that I buy it again. I suggest CWG quit trying to confuse the record and refund me the amount of my purchase. |

[2011-12-29] A Google User: One of the best historical themed apps! Learned a lot that you won't find in your typical civil war book. Roughly ten articles a day (which is about all I can keep up with) and for $1 you can have over a hundred a day! |
|
[2011-12-24] A Google User: Wonderful resource This app is amazing and really allows you to keep a pulse on daily events in American history. [2011-08-22] A Google User: Neither pro-Union nor pro-Confederacy. Today has 46 articles from the Richmond Dispatch, N.O. True Delta, and Richmond Examiner with report from McCulloch on Battle of Springfield. Surprised someone would consider the Dispatch pro-Union. |
|
[2011-08-20] the 8/22/2011 Pro union Heavily pro union. Very few southern newspapers not including an article about a run away slave. Very few battle accounts. Needs to be ballanced. |

[2011-04-17] A Google User: Fantastic idea for an app, following the headlines of the Civil War. Are there enough headlines to be able to follow a specific paper? |
|
[2011-04-17] A Google User: Outstanding app for capturing the feel of the time I heard about something similar for iPad and came right here to find an Android implementation. The daily updates put you in the times, giving the reader a feel for how things originally developed before and during the U.S. Civil War. This is a super learning tool for those interested in the fascinating history of how brothers came to fight brothers. This app brings that great tragedy to life! |
