SMS Sounds allows you to set custom text tones, vibrations, and LED Colors* for each of your contacts! This app is very small compared to the full service SMS applications. It will not bloat your phone as it is designed to be used in addition to the default messaging software on your phone.
You can setup every contact with a different ring so you know when to leave the phone on the couch and not reply to them for an hour. Or, you will know when to look at your phone immediately as your curiosity gets aroused as you’ve been waiting for their text.
*Some phones do not allow the color of the LED light to be altered. We cannot guarantee this app will allow you to change its color.
Steps for using SMS Sounds:
1. Turn off the default ringtone in the Messaging app. Run the Messaging app. Click Menu > Settings > Select ringtone > Silent. If you can disable vibrations in the Messaging settings, we recommend you do that also as the app now features vibrations. If not, go to Settings > Sounds > Vibration > Never.
2. Tap the “+” and setup your contacts with their own custom notifications. You can edit them at any time by tapping on the contact in the home screen (be sure to click save before exiting the screen).
3. Tap the "s" and setup the default notification sounds you had to disable in step 1 for the app to work properly.
FYI:
This version includes all the features of the paid version. However, to keep the app free we've included a banner ad as well as an interstitial ad upon exiting the app. This will help us keep the app compatible with all future versions of Android. Please purchase the paid version if you like the app and do not want the ads.
FAQ’s:
Q: Why am I unable to assign a contact group a tone?
A: We promote individualism and do not support group tones at this time.
Q: I setup a contact but the phone doesn’t ring when they send me a text.
A: This occurs when the incoming number does not match the number in your contacts. If they do not match exactly, the phone will not sound off. The most common issue is that you do not have the country code included in the contact number. For example, you have a contact setup as 20 1234 5678 and the user is from the United Kingdom. You need to edit the contact to 44 20 1234 5678 and then go back into the ringtone setup in SMS Sounds and select a tone for the new entry. (United States example: 123-456-7890 needs to be 1-123-456-7890)
Q: Why do I get two notifications for every SMS text I receive?
A: This common problem occurs when you have a notification tone set in the Messaging app you use. You will need to set the sound to silent by going into the Messaging app then click menu to go to the Settings > Select Ringtone > Set as Silent. Don’t ask me how to shut them off for other custom applications, I didn’t develop them and I certainly don’t recommend them!
Q: Why am I not able to see all my ringtones (internal or external)?
A: SMS messages are handled via notifications. Your sound files (ex: .ogg, .wav, .mp3, etc) have to be within a folder labeled “notifications” to be recognized by the application.
