[2013-07-21] A Google User: OK at best Started off great first couple weeks not many problems. the last week especially today on the final day crashing every couple of minutes pretty pathetic but since its all I got I gotta make do won't be doing it again next year |
[2013-07-21] A Google User: WTF?! I've had no real issues with this app until today, stage 21. For some strange reason live streaming isn't working on either my phone or tablet. Was so looking forward to seeing the finish in Paris. At least the stage news section is functioning. |
[2013-07-20] A Google User: Works well! Much better than last year's app! Very consistent. |
[2013-07-20] A Google User: I agree with Spencer. no DVR? I feel like what Spencer Roundy wrote- "Live Viewing is great. No DVR." "I'm very disappointed that the app doesn't let me watch an entire stage after the fact. Another major downside to this app is that there are no video controls. You can't pause the video. You can't fast forward or rewind. If this app had DVR (ability to watch stages after done) and basic video controls then it would be great." Don't waste $15 unless you want to wake up at 3am everyday to watch the race live. |
[2013-07-19] A Google User: Great HD quality Need CC Great video quality worth the money. Needs CC so I know what's happening when I am working |
[2013-07-18] A Google User: Good until it started jumping around Video was at 20k to go, then 15,then 19,then 20. Then crashed. Restarted video but the same thing happened. |
[2013-07-16] A Google User: Freezes frequently The video feed freezes very often causing most of the action to be missed. The app had to be closed and reopened to resume the video feed. Big waste of money. |
[2013-07-15] A Google User: Better than TV Live video without commercial interruption. Good video quality with very few problems (Moto RAZR). Highlights are fantastic. I used this app while traveling past week. Excellent! |
[2013-07-13] A Google User: Too many crashes App crashes more often than the riders! |
[2013-07-13] A Google User: Awesome app! I love this app! |
[2013-07-11] A Google User: Yes the negative reviews are mostly accurate UPDATED after two days of use. I have had bad results with this "service", and I say service because at this price, you should expect more than just fun and games. The app crashes in multiple places during use or fails to even startup. It requires a high bandwidth connection, even 3G won't cut it. Wifi is best. Once you get it up and running, the video is nice and Paul and Phil are there for you, but the feed gets choppy and skips ahead or back several seconds. The clips lack any kind of pause/play function. Yes its cheaper than the full NBC sports subscription on the desktop, and probably for good reason. |
[2013-07-11] A Google User: Much improved Much much improved from last year. Not crashing and quality is good. Please keep running when screen is off though please! Can get audio while RIDING MY BIKE! |
[2013-07-11] A Google User: Not worth $15 Very slow. Video constantly crashes. Video is really good when it works, but there is no replay so if you live on the west coast where the tour starts at three in the morning, you don't really get full use. |
[2013-07-11] A Google User: surprisingly good Well I hate to admit it but this TDF app is very good. Anything NBC usually indicates over commercialized junk but they seem to have learned their lesson from London Olympics app. You can watch live with no interruptions and no glitches. Does this mean they will not ruin Sochi? |
[2013-07-09] A Google User: How is this app getting worse every year? The video playback blows. No pause, no rewind, no fast forward. I left the analysts clip to respond to a text, only to find I had no way to restart the video when I came back. Had to start at the beginning. |
[2013-07-09] A Google User: Feeling ripped off to be honest... "Coverage Concluded" Um...no....they still have 40 km to go today on stage 10...this is NOT acceptable...especially when you charge for it.... |
[2013-07-08] A Google User: Poor UI and slow So many aspects of this app simply miss the mark. It appears to have interesting features at a glance, but content is not well labeled and loads slowly. The app is slow to load even the smallest of text content. The most irritating part is the video - there are no controls. Live broadcasts are just that and the viewer has to suffer through poor buffering (or none at all?) and recorded clips are served the exact same way. Poorly done. Love the tour, hate waiting on this app. |
[2013-07-08] A Google User: Keep someone in the office until polished please This has good potential to be a great product but it's not. I mean where are the stage replays available to our iOS friends? I mean it's just a link so give us the goods. Ridic. |
[2013-07-07] A Google User: Really? No stage replays? I purchased a similar app last year and it streamed full stage replays. Other than that, it looks great on my Galaxy S4. So far I haven't had the crashes or color problems other describe. |
[2013-07-06] A Google User: Overlay is Disappointing This app is pretty disappointing. I gave it 2 stars simply because of the HD video which I haven't had many problems with. However, for an app labeled as NBC Sports, it's missing their great overlay and ticker that the TV coverage has. The small amount of information on the screen seems to be directly from Eurosport (or whoever sells the coverage to all of the networks). It's hard to see where the breaks are, and very valuable spectator information is hard to come by. Add the NBC Sports TV overlay, allow for video controls, and on-demand stage viewing, and this app is easily 4 stars. At this point, a refund would be nice. NBCSports, please do something about this. You still have time. |
[2013-07-05] A Google User: Crashes and controls App crashes a lot, and no on-demand viewing of stages after they finish (something the iPad app of the same name and price includes). I'm frustrated and wish I hadn't paid for it, but the live video works so it gets two stars. |
[2013-07-04] A Google User: Worthless app For the past couple of days, it's been saying coverage has been concluded long before the stage actually ended. Inexcusable considering the high cost, and zero customer service from NBC Sports. |
[2013-07-04] A Google User: Really, ads?! Other than the fact that there is no user control on videos, I can't even pause or pay, this paid app at $15 has freaking ads, really? Give me a clean product that I paid for! |
[2013-07-04] A Google User: Slow and freezes during the Tour The app freezes and crashes during the Tour. It works fine later in the day, but such a high cost app should work all the time. |
[2013-07-04] A Google User: Poor video quality if at all This is a sorry excuse for an app. I only recommend it for the visually impaired. |
[2013-07-03] A Google User: Pretty Frustrating Aside from the live streaming I can get just about anything on this app by looking at the NBC website. Virtually all of the Videos are there. The app has crashed on me a number of times. Most of the time when starting a video, it will play for a few seconds at the beginning then skips back to the beginning again and play the same thing. It's not a major problem but a little frustrating nonetheless. I would expect that I could get to replay stages later if unable to watch it live. No dice.Come on NBC, for one of the pricier apps in the Play store, we deserve better. $15! |
[2013-07-03] A Google User: Full stage video is live only, no pausing or replays This app does work, but a huge limitation is that you can only watch the stages live, which is the middle of the night in the USA. There is no way to pause the video or skip around. Highlights clips are very short and not available until hours later. The video does look great if you do wake up early enough to watch. I expect better for the huge app price. |
[2013-07-02] A Google User: No dvr No dvr. The app crashes a lot. No way to exit without killing the app. No video controls. Live video looks good, hence the 2nd star. |
[2013-07-02] A Google User: S3 - Its awesome to be able to see the race however a real bummer u can only watch it live. It would be nice to watch it when time allows. The app needs some work it could be a lot better. 3 stars for the video quality. |
[2013-07-01] A Google User: Mediocre at best This app provides coverage and commentary on the tour but it is a horribly written app. It doesn't have a landscape mode and has crashed a couple times when using the back button. Up to you but at 14 dollars I expect a higher quality product. |
[2013-07-01] A Google User: Can't watch video after the stage Basically you have to be up and awake at the exact time the stage is on progress or you are screwed. I want my money back. |
[2013-07-01] A Google User: Great Video. Video is great but map is marginal. The map works well but does not have any of the race landmarks overlayed on it - like mileage, sprints, and climbs |
[2013-07-01] A Google User: Very Poor Crashes, poor performance, no replay of stages (only live), no video controls (pause, rewind, ...) Very disappointing for $15. Shame on NBC and Map My Ride for this crappy app. |
[2013-07-01] A Google User: This does not work! |
[2013-07-01] A Google User: Works, but... Video (live and recap / highlights) functions well on my Galaxy Note 2, and generally, other functionality works more-or-less as intended. However, the application won't exit when backing-out and does not provide a menu option for quitting (in fact, there's no settings menu at all); to close the application, you must kill it manually with either the built-in app manager or by use of a 3rd-party task manager. Oh, and by the way, just sitting idle, it consumes about 80MB of RAM... The app - with the understanding that it costs $15 - is ad-supported. If you switch away from live video (e.g., to check a text message or to take a phone call), the app hangs, presenting only a black screen, at which point the app must be manually killed (see notes above). When browsing riders (e.g., in the standings list or riders list), once you get past about 20 or 30 riders, the scroll begins to slow - and once you get past about 140 riders, you might as well just give up. You don't really have a lot of options for mobile live streaming here in the U.S. - so if you really want it, I guess you hold your nose and make the purchase. |
[2013-06-30] A Google User: Droid max & Samsung10.1 works great Easy to use best way to watch le tour get the app better price than past years |
[2013-06-30] A Google User: Real time tracking doesn't work! Want my money back |
[2013-06-30] A Google User: Terrible Quality Half hearted, can't watch full stages except when live, can't pause or control on demand videos. Slow app that freezes and force closes on both my reliable devices.. don't waste your time. Even the stage summaries (plain text) don't fit on the screen, they're cut off by banner ads! This is my first and only product review, buyer beware. -Nexus 7 & HTC One- |
[2013-06-30] A Google User: Crash o matic I want a refund. Long load times and crashes a lot. AVOID |
[2013-06-30] A Google User: Crap Every year I get sucked in. I should be able to watch later in the day. Live video shuts down constantly. Highlight videos cannot be paused or controlled in any way. Come on NBC....gotta figure this out. It is 2013! |
[2013-06-30] A Google User: Live Viewing is great. No DVR. I'm very disappointed that the app doesn't let me watch an entire stage after the fact. Another major downside to this app is that there are no video controls. You can't pause the video. You can't fast forward or rewind. If this app had DVR (ability to watch stages after done) and basic video controls then it would be great. These seem like basic functions for $15. As is, I'm looking at needing to pay for the Web version, which makes the mobile version a waste of my money. |
[2013-06-29] A Google User: The Best Way To Watch The Tour De France Just installed it on a Nexus 7 and I'm getting HD quality video with commercial free live coverage from start to finish. Commentary by Phil and Paul. Way better quality than any web feeds I've been able to find. Well worth the $15 |
[2013-06-29] A Google User: Looks great. Works great. Great value. I downloaded this app and began live streaming 12km from the stage 1 finish. The bus! The roundabout at 3k! The crash! Wow. Get this app! Well worth the money! |
[2013-06-29] A Google User: Not recommended. 30 minutes after first stage ended and still no highlights from the last half of the stage. No landscape mode when switching between video and main menu. |
[2013-06-29] A Google User: Video is green. Streams great, but video is all green. HTC Rezound. I should also be able to go back and watch full coverage when ever I want... |
[2013-06-29] A Google User: Needs work Continuous force closing |
[2013-06-29] A Google User: Using some of this app's features cause it to crash, once open it is very difficult to exit this app. It's really neat to follow the tour, the app has a lot of great features, but it needs some technical improvements. |
