A COUNTRY BOY'S MEMORIES THE gardens back then Were swarming with bugs, mosquitoes and black flies caterpillars and slugs. BUT, that's where the cucumbers and cabbages grew:.It was a farm boy's sweet life and a pleasant one, too! THERE was hoeing and weeding of the new onion beds and watering soil where would spring cabbage heads. I had to haul pails of water just when I felt weak up the muddy old trail stretching up from the creek. THOSE days are so distant. I long for them back...FROM JAMES MICHAEL CHAPESKIE
