Catan FAQ:
Download problems on Samsung devices?
Most download problems are likely related to the device's download cache being restricted – in case of the Galaxy S to only 30MB. The latest android version (2.3.3) removes this arbitrary limitation. Please update your device or contact our support for a refund. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused.
Question: I bought the seafarers expansion but after an update or reinstallation of Catan or after restoring my phone the expansion seems gone?
Answer: Don’t worry; your initial purchase is already saved in your Market account. However for technical reasons you have to select “Buy” again. Confirm and a message will tell you that you’ve already purchased it. You will NOT be billed twice!
Question: I lost my campaign progress after reinstalling, updating from an old version or when restoring my phone. Is there any way to restore it?
Answer: Savegames from old versions can usually be restored automatically. For all other cases we’ve integrated a cheat code: Enter campaign mode and go to select player. Enter „CatanWarp*“ (* = 1–15, e.g "CatanWarp5") as your player name and confirm. Exit the game via the home button. Enter your phone’s settings menu. Select applications/manage applications/Catan/ and then “Force Stop”. Restart Catan. The campaign can now be continued from the specified level number by selecting “New scenario *”.
We are already working on a tablet version.

[2012-07-17] Bryan: Love the board game! This is great. Would love a tablet optimized version. Some complaints listed are unfounded. Of course you can change name of player one. :-) Keep it up! |
[2012-07-16] Dylan: Worst Catan port and biggest android scam ever I just finished my last play of this game. After I write this I will be erasing the game off my phone and eating the $3.99. I will not be giving these talentless hacks anymore of my money to get multiplayer. This pay for the game and then pay again to unlock other things like multiplayer is a scam. But it works when you try the single player game and realize that the only challange comes from the ai cheating. Ai allways rolls 7 and screws the player. Don't get this game. |
[2012-07-16] the 7/16/2012 Lots of glitches Keeps uninstalling itself. Fine besides that |
[2012-07-15] Adam: Great! Works great on my galaxy tab 10.1 |
[2012-07-14] IanCognito: Cool game. Absolutely infuriating Ai Please, please fix the algorithm. While I enjoy the board game immensely, I'm certain I'll destroy my Droid tablet out of shear frustration with this game!!!! It must decide at the onset whether it plays fair or not. How else could I get robbed by my opponents 8 times in a row from the beginning of the game, when I don't have the most points, the most development cards, the longest road, the largest army - nothing!!!! It's COMPLETELY unfair! Did I mention infuriating? But two games later, you'll win going away. Makes no sense. It must operate off of a predetermined protocol just to make your blood boil. Just make it FAIR! |
[2012-07-14] Seb: Please make it compatible with ICS Edit: its been months now and the game is not compatible with ICS. It's ugly on the screen. Contacted them and they said they were working on an update. I don't believe them cuz its been way too long! Before: Amazing!!! Just like the real game! This game is simply amazing! Its just like playing the real board game. Though I wish there was an online multiplayer feature because it gets annoying playing against robots. Its not always fair, especially for trading! :) Please add ONLINE MULTIPLAYER! :) |
[2012-07-14] Hakon: Pretty good Things to improve: - The in-game menu is not very user friendly. There's a lot of clicking when e.g. buying several roads. - The game screen sometimes goes black and even a restart of the application doesn't help. Once it froze my tablet and I had to reinstall it to get it working. - The robots could get smarter about trading. They do not seem to prefer getting 2+ resources over 1. |
[2012-07-13] Jason: Catan = orgasm Nuff said |
[2012-07-13] Robert James: Text too small I can barely read the text in Catan on my new s3. Game needs to be formatted |
[2012-07-13] SomeGuyInABikini: Tiny interface on S3 Enjoyable but on Galaxy S3 interface is tiny and very difficult to interact with |
[2012-07-12] Kelan: Poor text and icon size Difficult to navigate, both icon and text size is distractingly small. Also, to play the campaign (1 of 2 options at the main display) you will be charged an additional fee. I regret my purchase, and sincerely hope that significant updates are forthcoming |
[2012-07-12] Michael: Computer rarely trades with you. The computer is pathetic with negotiating trades with you. Vincent says he's a bargainer, but totally not the case, as he's never placed a bargain in front of me ever. All I want is ONE ore, and yet the computer will not take anything for it! I even offered it a lumber and brick, but no. WHY? I offered a ROAD for a measly ore, who would turn that down. The stubbornness is very annoying. Of course, the CPU will come to you begging for your crops, but will never return the favor. |
[2012-07-11] Brook: Catan When you don't have time for a round with friends this is the next best option. |
[2012-07-11] Blake: Worst ai ever Seriously its beyond cheap. The game openly and repeatedly cheats and bullies you. That robber is going on your space every single time and dont ever expect a trade. Even if you're in last! This is catan for brain damaged people. Avoid at all cost. |
[2012-07-10] Brock: Needs updates badly This game needs to be fixed so bad. There is nothing better then the ai constantly rolling 7 and only using the robber on you. You can't actually play it or get any where because of this. This " game" is really more just like watching the ai play. Release some updates and it would be great but right now its terrible. |
[2012-07-10] Tomaz: Está com problemas O jogo tem uma arte muito boa, porem no Galaxy SIII esta com problema de resolução onde todos os menus, letras estão muito pequenos, espero sinceramente que consertem isso. |
[2012-07-09] Adam: Great game Good replayability. Wish they had Cities and Knights expansion |
[2012-07-09] Hiland: Meh Interface isn't intended for newer phones, and can be confusing. Replicates the game well, though. |
[2012-07-09] Byron: Great game. Needs higher Res version. The resolution is too low for my galaxy nexus. |
[2012-07-09] Andrea: Cheating... Don't waste your money. Game is like a casino...the odds are against you winning. Your numbers. Will rarely come up.. As soon as you get 8 resources, you get robbed. Read the other reviews if u don't believe me. I like CAtan...but will stick to real life. |
[2012-07-09] quasi-joel: Too expensive Too expensive for too little. Many expansions cost extra. Somewhat buggy and game rules are not clearly explained in maps and scenarios that differ from original settlers board game. |
[2012-07-07] Joshua: Great Game, Bad AI Looks and plays great, but computer opponents will team up and cheat you blind everytime. 2 Victory Points ahead? Don't expect to be able to build or buy anything, because your opponents will roll 7's to keep you locked until you aren't in the lead. Very frustrating, and very obviously unfair. I'm am avid Settlers player, and after more than a dozen matches in Catan I still have not won. Make the AI stronger, instead of rigging its dice rolls and development card draws. |
[2012-07-07] Alan: Needs tablet support Wonderful version of the board game. Needs graphic support for tablets. If you can't change your name put a space after every letter. |
[2012-07-07] Tony: Best board game ever, and it is ported very well. On the galaxy nexus the words and buttons are TINY. It makes the game very difficult play. |
[2012-07-06] clint: Fun, AI tricky Fun game, seems that the AI teams up against you if you're winning. Maybe will appreciate it if I get better, but a little frustrating |
[2012-07-04] LMS: Good game, but the AI sucks. It is also not random. If you start winning, you won't usually get your good numbers unless the robber is on them. |
[2012-07-04] Amber: Poorly executed app The buttons are waaaaay too small on my phone, to the point where I have to press them several times before anything will happen and it definitely does seem like the game cheats!! They definitely need to randomize the dice rolling a little better. It seems like the developers aren't listening to a single complaint in here, or to any of the amazing ideas to make the game a whole lot better such as a multi player option. Don't ignore us we want to love your game!!!!!!! |
[2012-07-04] Tracer: Slightly dissapointed This game is a bit expensive for an Android title. I guess this is due to the popularity of the physical board game. Having the seafarers expansion teased & costing more than I paid for the game though is a slap in the face. The dice rolls are altered to make the game harder, so just as you're winning the opposing player gets all their numbers. The tablet UI is turned on with high resolution phones like the Galaxy Nexus so all the buttons are too small. |
[2012-07-04] Jesse: Needs work on the controls The game itself works well enough, but the controls are almost unusable on high resolution screens. They need to scale up for us! |
[2012-07-03] Eric: Best board game now on my phone I love this game. |
[2012-07-03] Anthony Parisi: It's Catan. On your phone. What more can you want, really? The Euro game which reinvigorated the board gaming hobby has found a slick implementation with this app. New players will want to do the campaign, as it doubles as a tutorial. At this point, I'm mostly waiting for news about the Cities and Knights expansion. |
[2012-07-02] Nick: The computer cheats, no seriously, it does. I see a lot of complaints about the UI already so I'm going to focus and expand on the horrible cheating AI. My major complaint is how all difficulty and challenge from the game seems to only come from the AI being able to cheat. I've had one truly enjoyable game where the AI didn't feel like it was cheating, and I actually lost that game too. Most the time the AI rolls the robber and alternates it between your most common resource numbers, even when it does not benefit itself but will benefit one of the other AI characters, that most often is in the lead. Also if you get a victory point card or two that put you in the lead, the AI knows it and gangs up on you and is much more ruthless when you're in the lead. Yet if the AI has victory point card, you do not know this till they pull out a surprise win. Also the AI seems to get development cards constantly, if your strategy is to get largest army, don't bother; the AI will get somewhere around 4-8 knight cards played within the first 6-10 turns. Best to focus on longest road and expanding, use knight cards purely for defense because you will be doing so a lot. There is more but I'll just say this: the game NEEDS multi-player! |
[2012-07-02] Jeremy: Needs work I've played many many matches and only won once. The game is way too expensive for what you get. They expect you to pay another 4 dollars for the second half of the game. The computers gain up on you, the dice never play your numbers, and you can count on having resources stolen every match. Nothing like the board version. Don't waste your money! |
[2012-07-01] Mark: Polished, but missing vital multiplayer. I'm new to android (catan itself is old hat for me), only having gotten my galaxy s2 within the last few months, but years and years ago I was a pda enthusiast, and gaming was always my focus. This is a polished game, and if you're perfectly happy playing versus AI or in hotseat single-unit passaround mode, then by all means consider that I gave it 5 stars. However, given what can be accomplished on these fantastic little devices, and the price tag, online play should've been an update by now. Granted, developers claim that it's on its way, but finding further info on that is a chore so far. Stay tuned to this app...if they update in the multiplayer, it'll be more than worth the price. |
[2012-07-01] kayoti: Plagued This COULD be a fantastic implementation of Catan, were it not plagued by horribly small text and icons. I spend more time TRYING to tap an icon than I do playing the actual game. |
[2012-07-01] Smithers: Resolution of a tablet on my small phone The text and icons on my nexus are so tiny I can't make a single thing out and can't play it because of this. Its like it thinks my phone is the size of a tablet... as far as I'm concerned it may as well be crashing on startup... |
[2012-06-30] Mikko: Sgs3 Graphics are way too small in sgs3 really hurts my eyes and difficult to hit buttons |
[2012-06-30] Toyic: Worked amazing on shift But is not functional on EVO LTE. Also, optimization for tablets would be nice. |
[2012-06-30] Bec: Crashes my phone Love this app to get my Catan fix. Polished app great graphics however it freezes up my phone almost every time I use it. The only way I can.get my phone to work again is to turn it off. It's also a battery killer |
[2012-06-29] Daniel: The dice rolls are better |
[2012-06-28] Brenna: Mostly Good Can't play my development cards but otherwise very good. |
[2012-06-28] Zebulon: Why so small? Playing on an htc rezound you can barely read the text. All of the UI elements are extremely small, almost like it was only meant for a tablet, but even then its still quite small even on my galaxy tab. What's up catan? It could be so great, but instead it sucks. Need to get some real devs to bail you out... but sadly, I am sure that won't happen. :( Refund! |
[2012-06-27] Chet: Maddening How do you turn off AI co-op? They constantly rob you even when you're losing. Also, not the full game. You have to pay even more for that. Save your money. |
[2012-06-27] Jeremy: Wheres the promised online? Was give stars because the game is amazing but the dev promised online play and still almost a year later hasn't even given us an update so I'm changing my rating. Needs multi player |
[2012-06-27] Joseph: Great game but buggy This game is really fun but it will restart your phone randomly. |
[2012-06-27] Odyssey: Great game but... I do love this app but ever since they enhanced the graphics I haven't used it as much because it's harder to tell what resources each section is. |
[2012-06-26] Amanda: Awful I thought this would be fun, like the real version, but I just played against seven different "people"that came with the game for two hours and every single development card and every single seven was used to move the robber back and fourth on my pieces and mine alone (if you've played the real game you get this). I was unable to ever build it but anything because I never got any cards. This was an awful waste of four bucks |
[2012-06-24] Nigel: Terrible This is easily the worst mobile game I've ever played. Buggy, horrible GUI, and computer players definitely gang up on you. There isn't even that much in the game, you have to but all the extra content. If I could get my money back I would. |
[2012-06-24] FireBert85: Frustrating, addicting, lacking, and yet I play it I want to give this version of the game a five star, but it lacks online multiplayer, and I really feel it deserves a three star given that it is definitely an unfair balance when you're in the lead and the sevens start to roll uncontrollably and the AI are pitted against you. (Passing up on trading 2 wheat and 2 brick for one measley wood just 'cause I'm in the lead and you're designed to make it difficult? Any human player would gladly take four cards of any kind. Money is money, and I wish you could have that human element to work with in your strategy.) But I give it a four. It's the classic addictive formula we all know and love, and it certainly satisfies the urge when it comes time to pick up and try the various different scenarios that keep the gameplay fresh and engaging. But holy hell, it sure does seem like the rolls suddenly are out to get me sometimes, but in all honestly, I've been very aware of the times when five rolls straight got me just what I needed to win a match. In terms of it's technical performance, it's graphics are quick, snappy, clean, readable, and without glitch as far as I've seen on the Galaxy S II. Add online multiplayer please! Just do it! |
[2012-06-23] RobinGold68: They would get 5.... If they would add additional campaigns and online. This game would be addicting, but I got bored with the same capaigns and no online. Where the games I have online for I play forever because you get addicted to wanting to better your rankings and chatting with fellow players. You have had enough time for an update. |
[2012-06-23] David R: Rigged When playing the AI pay close attention to the # of dev cards your opponents purchase, carry, and play in each round. Also- When you get ahead of AI, sevens rolled galore, hit you every time, sometimes 2-3 times per turn. Then when AI players catch up or surpass, none rolled. Check dice stats to see. |
[2012-06-22] Kate: Expansion pack does NOT work on asus You get the original settlers fixed board game. Waste of money for expansion |
[2012-06-21] Andy: Crashing I don't know what's wrong, but the game just crashes constantly. I can't even get it really started. At entering the player's name it crashes every time. Refund... |
[2012-06-21] solipse: Superlative This is probably the best mobile port done yet. Makes time slip away... |
[2012-06-20] nightfo0l: Yay This app rox my sox. |
[2012-06-20] Ditte: tiiiny Moved to HTC One X from iPhone 4. This was the first app I bought, purely because Catan is the best time killer ever! BOY was I disappointed to see how incredibly TINY it is. Really disappointed that it's almost unplayable. |
[2012-06-19] Reed: Great! Great game. Wish you could play online against real people. I've played about 8 times and only lost once. Maybe I'm just too good... |
[2012-06-18] Zhenya: I play it all the time, but... After game 15 it forces me back to game 1. Asks if I really intend to delete all campaign info & start over--which i do not want to do--but i get no option to do anything else. I've only been permitted to complete the full campaign once. This happens on both my Droid Razr Maxx and my Android tablet (rooted nook device). Agree with all complaints about the players ganging up and the dices rolls working hard against you. |
[2012-06-18] LumpyG: Classic game well executed Minus 1 star for having to pay extra for access to full game. |
[2012-06-15] Ryan: AI players cheat This is a great game but the AI players literally cheat. In addition to the dubious dice rolls and hostility to human players, I have actually seen the AI build a village with no connecting road, breaking the rules of the game. Fix the game so the rules can't be broken and it's actually fair. |
[2012-06-14] Angus: Brilliantly done Brilliant game, just like the original board game. |
[2012-06-13] jennifer: Will be 5 stars if freezing is fixed I really love the board game, but this app just ruins it for me.. yes the app is really fun and has a lot of customization (game types, amount of victory points, which AI to play against, etc) but I CANNOT get past the crashing issues. you will love this app if you can put up with it, but for my epic 3g, it freezes 1 out of 2 times and when it does, I have to open the phone to take the battery out because it is unresponsive and won't turn off. such a waste it would be perfect otherwise :( |
[2012-06-12] edisms: No good if high PPI Useless on high point device like SG3. Can't read the text. |
[2012-06-12] none: Great Game Works great on my HTC Inspire! Have played of for hours. |
[2012-06-12] Elliott: Needs update! App worked great on my Droid x, but everything is so small on the galaxy nexus that it is no longer fun to play. |
[2012-06-11] Leslie: Love it I love having this game with me at all times! The opponents make me so mad sometimes that I have to stop playing but that's what happens! |
[2012-06-11] Will: Like SO many apps out there, Catan is not available on Samsung Captivate. I'm holding my rating hostage until it is available on my platform :P |
[2012-06-11] Bryan: AI sucks AI trades 3 to 1 too easily.AI once made a settlement w/o building a road to it. Please do multiplayer similar to Xbox. Needs stat to show robber tile losses. |
[2012-06-11] Brandon: Great game Has been freezing since ice cream. |
[2012-06-11] Logan: Yup Love the game, smooth and responsive. The ai is great, you notice the difference between players. The only problem is the icon size. It was great on my old galaxy spica but now on my HTC one x It's almost unplayable. Icons in the corners take forever to accurately press and is definitely not my fat fingers fault. |
[2012-06-09] Wiz: Low resolution. Barely playable Not optimized for high res devices. Barely playable as it would be an otherwise great app. |
[2012-06-09] the 6/10/2012
[2012-06-08] brews: Great game. Bad port. Sub optimal UI on the Galaxy Nexus. Too bad because it's a very fun game. USM does seem to be handling this port very well. :- |
[2012-06-08] Jarom: So good until I got a nexus I love catan soon much, but after u moved it from my Samsung infuse to the nexus it is so small I can't push any of the buttons. This makes game play slower than the board version. Please fix... |
[2012-06-08] Nathan: I love catan Perfect to fulfill your catan needs on the go. |
[2012-06-07] David: Close to being a great game, but needs tweaking I can't really add anything new to what's already been said, so I'll just reaffirm it. On a high resolution screen, the interface is very small and the buttons don't respond well, often requiring 2-3 taps to refuse a trade, for example. If this was a free app, I wouldn't expect a rapid fix, but for a paid one, it should have been done long ago, as scaling is not a particularly difficult thing to correct. |
[2012-06-07] Josh: Can't play WiFi or internet You have to pass it around, this will not let you play |
[2012-06-07] vunii: Droid X Been working great since updates no. |
[2012-06-07] rocke: Needs updates for high resolution phones Hopefully we get an update soon. Playable, but on screen buttons and text are small. AI needs some work hopefully once cities and knights comes out the AI will be better. |
[2012-06-05] Sean: I love Catan Other then no multiplayer its a great game |
[2012-06-05] Lukas: Graphic problems on Nexus Galaxy Unusable on a nexus |
[2012-06-03] John Condon: Works, but not great The game is fully functional, but doesn't have the best ui. Nearly all extra features beyond a standard game require additional purchases. |
[2012-06-03] Adam: Good game; Poor customer service The game, though pricey, is quite well done. I found the AI challenging, the interface easy to navigate, and the look appealing. On the other hand, the customer service has been subpar. Minimal updates, and despite their website advertising for the release of Cities and Knights and a cross platform online multiplayer being released by no later than March of this year, this stop has yet to take place. When I asked them about it in an email, I was given no information other than "have patience." |
[2012-06-02] Mike: Worst game ever Nothing like the board game. Bots don't trade. Bots alway roll a 7 and always target you they also always get the good development cards while u only get knight cards. Expansion pack is a joke save your money this version is no fun |
[2012-06-02] Michael: No zoom No zoom |
[2012-06-02] Kate: Love it I love this game. It's definitely a different game play experience than the board game, but I still find it challenging and fun, if sometimes frustrating. The bots in campaign mode tend to roll in their favor and not yours and gang up on you throwing a ton of robbers, but this has made me a better player so I can kick my friend's a$$es when we play the board versions. Just say persistent and it's worth it. |
[2012-06-01] Kenney: Fun game if it works correctly The game seems to delete it self from my phone ever so often. |
[2012-05-31] Joe: Crashes Knocks my Droid X2 out of commission after only a few minutes. |
[2012-05-31] Raymond: Cheats. Your #'s aren't rolled unless the robber is on it. Robber is conveniently thrown on your turn any time you go over 7 cards. CPU trades with others of higher score but not with you. Monopoly cards always take away your most abundant resouce, never the CPU's. Once you hit 8 pts, AI freaks out, throws Knight cards and 7's like confetti. A digrace to the Catan brand. |
[2012-05-28] Perast: I Love this game.... But for 720p mobiles everything gets extremely tiny, this needs to be scaled up (works ok om my google nexus s). Also it drains my battery. (On SONY XPERIA S). |
[2012-05-28] Treva: Love it! This is my all-time favorite game! |
[2012-05-27] Matthew: AI Cheats!!!!!!! The AI cheats so much. When you get to around 7 victory points the AI panics and your numbers are not rolled. The robber is thrown on you so much and drains your needed resources. Apparently it would be a resource the AI needs. Not really random rolls in my opinion. |
[2012-05-27] J: Exactly like the board gam!! Sooo addicting!! Great game, LOVE this app!!!!!!! Only wish there was a 2 player option tho. |
[2012-05-27] Serapth: Seriously broken Game menu disappears at random preventing further play rendering game useless. Happens of both Galaxy Note and Transformer. |
[2012-05-26] Sp4rkR4t: Great game but a bit of a con with the dlc Only comes with Skirmish mode for the campaign you have to spend another few pound and under no circumstances expect any kind of support for this app as the developer doesn't seem to give a crap about force closes or other issues. |
[2012-05-25] Daniel: Okay, could be better Two complaints: 1) the computer seems to know if you have development card victory points and focus the robber on you (even though they are supposed to be hidden and you can't tell if they have them) and 2) after playing the boardgame version religiously for the last 4 years I can say that the 7 certainly doesn't come up nearly as often as this randomizer does. Annoying. |
[2012-05-25] ki4hbd: Works great on phone, not so much on tablet This works great on my phone (Droid 2) however, on my Xoom Family, its fairly broken. The Interface if very flaky and often requires three or four (sometimes 10) tabs for a button to register. Also the scrolling text along the top of the screen is not seen on the tablet, just the colored bar. I had bought this with the intention of hot seat play with my tablet, but its pretty impossible thanks to the bad interface. |
