Storyline:
Long ago near the land of Horai ravaged a massive battle between Horai's forces and a freedom federation called Tenkaku. The Tenkaku fought in the name of freeing the world from Horai's tyrannous grasp, but in vain.
Out of all the Tenkaku, only one survived. His name was Shinra.
Shinra, enraged by defeat, charged into battle alone once more to fight, but was shot down by a village in the furthest reaches of the world.
The village was known as Ikaruga and it was filled with elder people whom had long ago been exiled after Horai's various conquests. They found Shinra and decided to help him. While unconscious, they used their technology to copy the technology of Shinra's ship and added their own powers, knowing he was the world's hope against the Horai. When Shinra came to, the elders bestowed upon him the finished ship, also known as Ikaruga.
The fated battle of the Ikaruga has begun!

[2013-08-25] A Google User: Was a five star game but won't run with Android 4.3 Purchased this a while back and loved it, but it crashes while loading on Android 4.3 and there's been no sign of an update. I'd hoped with it being a premium priced app an update would appear quickly but no such luck. |
[2013-08-14] A Google User: It stopped working After the jellybean update, Ikaruga stopped working. Please fix. |
[2013-08-11] A Google User: Not working on 4.3? Using nexus 4 with android 4.3. Could not launch the game at all. |
[2013-08-08] A Google User: Won't launch Despite trying to uninstall and reinstall, reboot, etc. Game won't launch. Only get to the downloading game data screen and says game quit no matter what I try. Hoping for an update. Nexus 7 user |
[2013-08-05] A Google User: Ikaruga This game is hard as hell but very good! I love it! Works with my nyko playpad as well! |
[2013-07-23] A Google User: Authentication Failed... Please refund my money now |
[2013-07-01] A Google User: Controls unresponsive Wish I had more control as to where I could put the buttons. Make the game past unplayable. Also I don't like to bar at the bottom of the screen. |
[2013-06-24] A Google User: Hard to play Hard to play. Got to get rid of bottom menu. Works for note 2 and HTC 1. Doesn't work for Sony. Please fix for Sony Xperia Z. |
[2013-06-05] A Google User: Yes... yes...! I was a little iffy at the game running within some other app (G-Gee app), but once I told it to start I was beyond all that. Being able to play this shmup anywhere I want is like heaven, and it runs like a dream on my Galaxy Note 2 N7100. |
[2013-05-09] A Google User: Awesome game ...but is really hard to play on a phone. Please implement accelerometer control so that i dont have to cover the screen with my hand!!! It makes it really hard to see all those bullets! |
[2013-05-06] A Google User: Excellent! Just as I remember playing it on the game cube. Now I'm playing it on my smart phone! Worth the money!! |
[2013-05-04] A Google User: 無敵 超好玩 |
[2013-03-30] A Google User: I love Ikaruga but not this game It took 3 installations for it to work but the game suffers from bad controls and many sound and graphical issues. It is pretty much unplayable. Ikaruga should stay home, were it belongs. |
[2013-03-27] A Google User: My GameCube favorite is back!!!! Graphics are AMAZING! Colors are.great! Controls are a bit.weird though. |
[2013-03-24] A Google User: Great game but... As others have said, the bottom bar it's way too big and the "social" thing is annoying as hell. Would be perfect if not for those defects. |
[2013-03-19] A Google User: Good port. Horrible controls. Impossible to play seriously. There's no support for gamepads or any ability to bind actions to input method. Developers need to understand that using a touch screen for a danmaku is not a good idea. 5/5 if support for hard keys is added. Ran slow on my Galaxy S 1, nexus 4 runs it full fps with zero problems. |
[2013-03-18] A Google User: The real McCoy Xperia play friendly, this is a fantastic redistribution of Ikaruga |
[2013-03-13] A Google User: Worth every dollar. Played all five chapters on my XPeria Play and it works great. Have to play it sideways to use the controller but that honestly controls better than the touch screen -although it's still perfectly playable that way. There's some slight lag on chapter five but that's totally understandable. Ikaruga on my phone. Couldn't be happier. :) |
[2013-03-10] A Google User: Controls blow The title says it all. Needs to allow a joypad remappable button configuration and then the game would be playable. How do they want to you control the ship with your finger blocking the whole screen to move? |
[2013-03-02] A Google User: Authentication Authentication keeps failing even when I got rid of lp and restarted several times just keeps sending me back to market to uninstall and try again |
[2013-02-22] A Google User: Please allow custom button mapping and rotation. The Dpad on my device doesn't compensate for the rotation of the screen, so if you could allow for custom button mapping, it would solve this problem. Also, my DPad is on the other side of the screen and makes it unusable. Please don't lock the rotation! Allow the screen to rotate to the other side, or put a screen orientation option in to flip the screen upside down. Otherwise great game. |
[2013-02-19] A Google User: h_m_m (wow) >.< i was prepping to knock the crap out of this developer but hmm. wow. can tegra3 do this? amazing game, xbox360, ehh but great game. the game is 3d the controles are fine your just oversized and the comment requires no racist slants about giving my money back. still says refund. thanks @-.-@ |
[2013-02-19] A Google User: Not bad One of my fave games from DC, pretty impressive port, obviously not the type of game suited to touch screen but who cares, I knew that already, looks nice and runs fine, and just awesome to carry it around with me, ayy!!! |
[2013-02-18] A Google User: Finally I was wondering if I'd ever get to play this again, and here it is. First had the Dreamcast import, then on Gamecube. A large screen is a must for this game, preferably a tablet. Works perfectly on my Galaxy Tab 7.7. An amazing port, all graphics are faithful to the original with no slow down. Ideally you should play with the device laying down, two left fingers over shoot and change, your right index moving the ship, and hit the homing missiles with your thumb. Auto fire is not necessary. |
[2013-02-18] A Google User: One of, if not the, greatest shooters of all time. Originally a little known dreamcast game, Ikaruga is now a cult/fan classic and an absolute marvel. I can't recommend a $9 purchase without a demo, but once you've played this gem, it'll seem like a steal. |
[2013-02-13] A Google User: Looks great but... The on screen buttons stop being responsive when playing with an S-pen (Note 2)... Which, when you're in a situation where you need to change the colour of your shipment quickly is hardly ideal!! Needs to be played with a game pad for full enjoyment. It's still a great port though, amazing to think that a game I used to enjoy on my Gamecube I can now take with me everywhere...The s-pen and buttons issue definitely needs fixing though, maybe even give the option to adjust their size? |
[2013-02-12] A Google User: Controls don't respond Runs okay, but game controls become unresponsive after only a few seconds. I'd love to play this game again, but it's simply not even playable on my tablet. |
[2013-02-12] A Google User: Cool By far one of the best games I've ever downloaded for my phone. Its just like the download for xbox360! Top marks from me |
[2013-02-12] A Google User: Very nice game but... I loved this game on Gamecube, that is why I bought it again on Android. It works very well on my Galaxy Note, but I wonder why it is not compatible with Asus Padfone 2? Is there any plan to solve this compatibility issue? thanks |
[2013-02-10] A Google User: Fuckin AMAZING as lover of daimaku shooters the only one I'd love to see is the mother of all shooters RADIANT SILVERGUN but seems that's a far fetch dream and since you need all 6 buttons plus the sword on a touch screen it will be nearly impossible to play, well, not everything in life is perfect, ikaruga on android is, a little expensive but WORTH EVERY PENNY. higly addictive and recomended. |
[2013-02-10] A Google User: Awesome game! Shame about all the other "social" crap that comes with it. Totally ruins the experience, as well as it being generally rubbish to use. Won't be buying another game from this company whilst it has this tripe bundled in with it. |
[2013-02-09] A Google User: It's Ikaruga. On Your Phone. Wow. You won't be beating any high scores, but if you play within the limits of this port, you can enjoy it. Main problem is that with autofire on you cannot max chains, but you can stay alive by tapping to change color. And without autofire, it's fiddly to play. So a bit of control config and you can play this. On the Nexus 4 it looks stunning. |
[2013-02-08] A Google User: Needs some work Stretch and transparent buttons please. So hard to play on phone already. |
[2013-02-07] A Google User: No Sound on Jellybean! Same as Esp2 and DDP:R |
[2013-02-01] A Google User: Controls break it Awesome game but being it really demands precision and the touch controls fail to deliver that. The graphics seem to be bit worse than in the DC version but as far as Android games go they are pretty fantastic and the game mechanics don't appear to have been tampered with or anything. This game would an instant 5 if it would support Bluetooth gamepads but until then it's impossible to play seriously so it really isn't anything more than a novelty. Note: I also tried and failed to make a touch profile for my Sixaxis Controller to let me play that way. I was unable to get movement to work well after trying various settings of analog sticks or using the directional pad as swipes. Ikaruga is a great game but I wouldn't reccommend this even to hardcore Treasure fans. Honestly, I wouldn't waste my devices' space with this app even if it was free. I have complaints about the ridiculous licensing scheme they use too but in the face of the control problem it seems largely irrelevant so for now I'll just say that if gamepad support was added I would probably be willing to pay double and recommend it to everyone but I would still only give it 3-4 stars because of the silly DRM. |
[2013-02-01] A Google User: Ikaruga My phone is Motorola Defy, single core CPU 800hz, (This app is compatible with some of your devices.) the game will start up but too slow and lag even in lowest setting, also take too long to download the game data from store, start up the first game, cannot manage to refund in first 15 minutes. may be leave it for the next phone. |
[2013-01-31] A Google User: Controls need work. The game itself is great but the port needs some work on the controls. The auto shot area takes up to much space. Semi transparent buttons would be good, or even better would be the ability to assign hardware keys. Temporarily I'd suggest removing the auto shoot button and adding that ability to double tapping the shoot button. Little tweaks like that will make this game great. |
[2013-01-30] A Google User: Favourite on GC, now on Note 2 Great port, great fun, great game. A little tough to control with touch input, but-such is the nature of the beast. With some minor improvements though this could be near perfect. Full screen would be nice, but that would affect the aspect ratio. It could do with a fixed virtual stick and as someone else mentioned, button size adjustments. Unfortunately the S-Pen overides multiple touch input on the device itself, so nothing the dev's could do to change that. As an ideal set up as is, I'd recommend this control method: Layout: Type 2 (phone held in left hand, moving with right thumb/finger-Type 3 for lefties) Stick: Type 2 (quicker) Shot: None (keep Auto Fire on) Change: Single Tap Homing: Button C I find this to be just about as good as it gets. The single tap to change needs to be a very 'deliberate' press, but much better than seeking the button. (Will try PS3 controller with OTG cable later to see if it works then update review) Edit, PS3 controller works great with OTG cable. Analogue stick, square, cross and triangle buttons-absolute shmup-gasm! |
[2013-01-30] A Google User: Would be 5* but.... The game will not play if you have lucky patcher installed on your device. I use lp for flash as another user pointed out and need to uninstall it in order to play ikaruga. A TINY weekly update will stop lp playing the dodgy copies, why not do that instead of blocking the legit bought versions? The controls are ok if you have auto fire on. Brings me back to my dreamcast days. Long live ikaruga! |
[2013-01-28] A Google User: Fantastic that it's here but... Great game but can I make some suggestions? Allow users to play in landscape mode and also get a frame limiter. In my Samsung galaxy note 2, the game goes too fast in places. Finally, allow for button remapping if you have the chance. The current setup you have plays wrong with my controller. Allowing me to change the input at least means there is backward compatibility. Good job otherwise though. |
[2013-01-28] A Google User: One of all time best shmups! Works well on galaxy note 1. Wish you could switch polarity by tapping screen with 2nd finger. |
[2013-01-27] A Google User: About time! Amazing. Runs as smooth as butter on my pipo max tab. All i need now is deathsmiles! |
[2013-01-25] A Google User: Request: Button sizes/sensing (increase please) Please make the buttons, especially "change" larger or the option for larger buttons, maybe slightly transparent too. Also the game isn't full positioned (or stretched) correctly (currently too high, blank at the bottom, not really a problem at all though, in fact probably helps avoiding the sensitive physical buttons on this phone). I'm using the international version of Note II btw.. Anyway, I am missing the buttons a bit too much with my quite large screen though...ideally would be able to press buttons while using pen to move..doesn't let you do that atm. Good luck if you intend to play without auto-fire :P Otherwise well made and a lot of fun, feels smooth enough most of the time as well. =-=-=-= It could do with an exit button somewhere in the menu too. |
[2013-01-23] A Google User: Great game - Insanely Difficult to play on a phone I love Ikaruga. It's one of my favorite games, and I bought this just so I could have it with me always. It's a fairly good port and runs well on my phone, but it's difficult to control on a small touch screen. If you can get passed that, there is no reason not to buy it. |
[2013-01-22] A Google User: Amazing Great on nexus 7! With full controller support! |
[2013-01-22] A Google User: Few things needs to be sorted out. Thanks a lot Arlyn your review helped a lot and finally the game is working. However there are few things need to be fixed 1. It's not full screen. 2. There must be an Exit Button (I had to kill the app). Rest seems good game is running smoothly. Will update the review once I play it for an hour or so. |
[2013-01-21] A Google User: Sexy A blast from the past.... |
[2013-01-21] A Google User: Terrible Developers. Once again, does not work with Galaxy Nexus. King of Fighters works fine now even though it didn't for seven months. Their technical support consists of you figuring out what is wrong, and them telling you too bad. Update: 1 day later: True to form, no response from the retards at G-Gee. I have, like I said I would, trouble shooted the issue myself. The issue is an error code: "0x0e010050" The geniuses at G-Gee have created an "error code" system to keep their users in the dark. This error means "You have Lucky Patcher installed." Although they could program the game to tell you why it's not working, so you can get it to work, G-Gee instead would rather have you email them about error codes so they can ignore you. G-Gee won't let me PAY FOR THEIR GAMES because I WANT TO PATCH FLASH PLAYER. It seems like this is a violation of the play store TOS. Developers can't intentionally disable access to paying users because they installed such and such an app. It works. 1 star stands for restrictive and underhanded copy protection schemes that hinder legal play of the game. I will continue to thumbs up other one star reviews indefinitely. |
[2013-01-20] A Google User: Nexus 7 Awesome! Especially if you're hacked in with a moga controler |
[2013-01-20] A Google User: Req: Button size - video position Please make the buttons, especially "change" larger or the option for larger buttons. Also the game isn't full positioned (or stretched) correctly (currently too high, blank at the bottom, not a huge deal though). I'm using the international version of Note II btw.. keep missing the buttons with my quite large screen though...ideally would be able to press buttons while using pen to move..doesn't let you do that atm. |
[2013-01-20] A Google User: No Sound on Jellybean! Same as Esp2 and DDP:R |
[2013-01-19] A Google User: Eh I'm fine with it there is just no sound on my gs2 |
[2013-01-19] A Google User: Galaxy Note 10.1 Nice old school shooter but not full screen on my 10.1 screen, there is an ugly “logo” to cover area not used by game. The graphics are fuzzy, even on high setting, so I don‘t think it has been optimized for tablets - will change rating if this issue is sorted out later. |
[2013-01-19] A Google User: Clunky That's the best way to describe this port. The graphics run fairly poorly on my Galaxy Nexus (a bit chunky). The controls are a bit clunk with a bottom quarter of the screen dedicated to firing/homing/switching, and the top three quarters to the game. There is some rather nasty DRM that makes you login and create a profile prior to playing. All that said, it's still Ikaruga. The port could certainly be better/cleaner, however. |
[2013-01-19] A Google User: full screen ok. good control system. nexus 7 |
[2013-01-19] A Google User: Fantastic! Love the game, it runs okay, could be a little bit better. Controls are good with the touchscreen but forget about chaining :( Edit : this is amazing! My only regret is that it doesn't have the same structure the original had. You either get unlimited continues or no continues at all. There's an "extended setting" but I'm not sure how it works. You can select any chapter from the start :/.. Good for a mobile game but I like more traditional systems |
[2013-01-19] A Google User: amazing! My favorite dreamcast/gamecube game now for my xperia play! Hope they optimize it to xperia play gamepad |
[2013-01-19] A Google User: Refunded Crashed at startup. |
[2013-01-19] A Google User: Doesn't work Wasted 9.00. Refund now. |
[2013-01-18] A Google User: A more calm excitement with review (edit) Classic game. Waited so long for it to arrive to android. I literally type Ikaruga almost every day to see if someone put it up as emulated or redone. So glad its up and I am first to DL it. I can die in peace now. Edit: So I played it on my nexus and it took a while to get used to the controls. Graphics are great considering it's original format. I suggest setting auto fire on and use a stylus like I did to get the arcade experience. I believe it has controller options because options had something of a game pad config. All in all it still deserves the 5 stars. My only irk is the initial setup but that is something so minor. |
[2013-01-18] A Google User: Crashes on my phone All this game does is attempt to see up some useless G-Gee profile. Despite this very annoying and unnecessary step, I wouldn't mind, if the actual game worked. Instead, it just crashes. Pity, Ikaruga is one of the best shmups ever created, so it's a shame that I needed to make this the first game I've refunded. |
[2013-01-18] A Google User: Does not work No fking game made by g-gee has worked on my phone. Just paid for this and another and it's giving me errors. |
[2013-01-18] A Google User: Dreamcast Classic! Considering the hardware limitations an awesome port of the amazing Dreamcast classic. More Dreamcast ports please. Sega Ftw!! |
[2013-01-18] A Google User: Runs like *** on the Xperia Play Ikaruga is a pretty good shmup and I'm not going to waste time reviewing it past pointing out that the game never deserved the ridiculous praise reviewers gave it and just about any shmup player would tell you the same. The game runs so so poorly on my Xperia Play even with sound turned off and the resolution set to low. Considering I use physical keys it really bothered me that there was no way to hide the big "Autofire on/off" button on the bottom of the screen. The music and sound effects are low quality. The G-Gee thing only serves as the icing on the crap cake that is this port. If the devs can manage to make the game run much better then I will amend my review but until then it gets two stars; 1 for being a pretty slide-show and 2 for reminding me just how great DotEmu is. Back to Raiden Legacy! |
[2013-01-17] A Google User: Great Best shooting game ever |
