Wyoming encompasses some 98,000 square miles, with a population of approximately 500,000 people and can boast of abundance of wildlife, vast deserts, high plains, and majestic mountains. AND it's home to our nation's first national park and monument, Yellowstone and Devils Tower respectively. Wyoming's jam packed with other natural, national wonders: Grand Teton National Park, Bighorn Canyon and Flaming Gorge National Recreation Areas, Fossil Butte National Monument, and John D. Rockefeller, Jr. Memorial Parkway.
We've got mountains: the Wind Rivers, Absaroka, Owl Creek, Gros Ventre, Tetons, Big Horns, Black, Laramie, Snowy Range and Sierra Madre - many with peaks over 13,000 feet. Pristine waters flow throughout the state for the fisherman amongst you.
There are wildlife refuges and hatcheries: Seedskadee National Wildlife, National Elk and Jackson National Fish Refuge, and Saratoga National Fish Hatchery. Additionally, the Wyoming Game and Fish Department supports other hatcheries and fish rearing stations and provides fishing access throughout Wyoming's blue ribbon waters. They also administer to the wildlife in the state and oversee hunting and fishing liscensure.
The Cowboy State is plush with herds of animals - pronghorn, deer, elk, moose, wolves, bison, bear, and smaller critters as well. The second longest mammal migration on the North American continent occurs in Wyoming when pronghorn migrate from the Red Desert to Grand Teton National Park and back again in the fall. Birds are abundant - see predatory species such as eagles, hawks and owls. At Seedskadee National Refuge alone, 220 species of birds have been identified.
