Known issues:
There is a known issue for Motorola Atrix, Electrify and Photon phones running Android 2.3.x Gingerbread software versions.
These suffer from a GPS accuracy bug, where accuracy is always reported as 0m even though the GPS has a lock. As a consequence, Taximeter will never get past the "Waiting for a valid GPS fix..." message. At the moment the only solution is to root the phone and replace the /system/lib/libnmea.so library with an older version (1.8.3), see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21586204&postcount=5. Motorola are aware of the issue and we are hoping any subsequent software update for the phones fixes the problem.
If you have a rooted phone and are having problems with GPS locks or slow locks, it is worth checking that you have the correct GPS settings in /system/etc/gps.conf for your region, see http://www.thriveforums.org/forum/dalepl-development/3090-mod-gps-fix-country-continent.html. As always, take a backup of any existing file before replacing it.

[2013-03-19] A Google User: Caravan Cabbie Fantastic app... Wild to compare rates in other cities or even countries... |
|
[2013-02-19] A Google User: Couldn't really ask for more For $5, this is one powerful little app. Not a lot of presets, but developers say to email them if you want a preset loaded; I just manipulated the XML file containing the presets myself and it worked fine (phone doesn't even need to be rooted). Very impressive. |

[2013-02-12] A Google User: Love it, but not for my city I bought it, but can't quite master getting it to work in my city (Toronto, Canada) and wish it was eaier to figure out or get new cities. Can anyone else more expert help? I'm surprised it has Calgary and Halifax but not Toronto. |

[2013-01-29] A Google User: Tethered to OBDII, it should meet NIST requirments [NOTE] I have not yet tested in a moving vehicle.[/NOTE] At first blush, this is as close to the "real thing" you can get. It has all the same basic features and functions of my Centrodyne 210 meters, and more, with the added bonus that the user interface is much more friendly. Tested from my couch, the GPS location changed routinely. This is to be expected with the limitations of GPS and is bound to introduce impreciseness in the calculations - a no-no if charging actual customers on a per-unit basis. That said, tethered to an OBDII device, this should meet the requirements of NIST Handbook 44 (2013 edition), Chapter 5.54 "Taximeters" except for the calibration requirement of Chapter 1.1, as referenced. In it's current state, I think taxi companies, such mine, in "unregulated" markets would be happy with this if it had a $100 price tag; it still would cost less than a hardware meter. Achieving NIST certification would not require much more than adding a calibration routine and getting it tested. I would very much like to have two new features: 1. Toplight control via a bluetooth tethered switch; 2. A credit card payment gateway interface. |

[2012-09-21] A Google User: Was great until.... Worked great for a few weeks and then stopped charging by distance and now only charges by time even with a good gps lock. Either fix ALL gps related issues or give us our money back. |
|
[2012-09-15] A Google User: Delays in finding GPS and Restarts my device The app is VERY good, but no support for Greater Manchester, United Kingdom, so using Leeds settings. Find there is sometimes a 3-4 minute delay in finding GPS when outside, and occasionally restarts my Samsung Galaxy S2 GT-I9100 device running Android 4.0.3 |
|
[2012-08-06] A Google User: GPS Problems When I try to start the program, I enable my GPS and for the next 10 minutes I have to wait while it says "Waiting for a valid GPS fix. I can't have can't have people waiting on the program. This is the first program I've ever paid for because of the raving reviews, but I don't know why my Incredible 2's GPS system would be any less capable than someone else's particularly when it works so well with programs like Waze. If there is a solution to this I'm sure it would work fine, but I need to actually be able to use it. |

[2012-03-22] A Google User: GPS The meter keeps using my GPS even after exiting the app. It's closed with confirmation, not the home button. Only force-quitting it from the Applications menu fixes this. I'm using an HTC Desire HD running 2.3.5 |

[2011-10-30] A Google User: Nice App! Great Support. Got this for my taxi service. After making my own preset I uncovered a bug in the app. The developer fixed it the next day and posted an update immediately. Where else can you get this kind of support for such a small price tag. Thanks Stuart! |
