This application helps you memorize:
- Japanese syllabary :Katakana & Hiragana, with flash card, keyboard, or drawing recognition
- Numbers, in romaji, Hiragana, or kanji
- 2300+ japanese kanji's (level 1-5 JLPT or Jouyou 1-7) with stroke animation (source KanjiVG), translation, readings (Source KanjiDict) with flash card and drawing game.
- 14600+ japanese words (in english) from EDICT with flash card test
- Experimental gramatical particle test (around 100 sentences from project Tatoeba) central to japanese language.
- Tae Kim Japanese Grammar guide.

Incredible App! I've tried to tackle learning Japanese a few times over the years. This time I was able to find resources that really make learning Japanese interesting and memorable. This is the best app I've come across. I've learned kana so quickly from it, and it has so much to offer! However, the one thing I'd love to see is a way to test katakana with hiragana multiple choice, not just romanji. This is one of the best apps you can get if you're learning Japanese. I couldn't recommend it enough! :D

I use it constantly On the treadmill, on a plane, on the toilet, I practice with obenkyo everywhere. Great app with tons of features. Things I would like to see added: a space between the last answer and the review tab for recognizing kanji, better randomization of possible answers, eliminating duplicate answers (which "kou" do I pick?) Small wants though. If anyone tells you there's a better FREE kanji learning app out there that person is a filthy liar.

Awesome app! It's divided per jlpt level and every word has it's reading (on & kun) complete with meanings and many samples. Most importantly, it teaches you how to correctly draw the kanji!! Love this app and am using it all the time!

Amazing I am self-studying Japanese for years now and I'm really having a hard time on what book(s) to read in order for me to learn Kanji. This app is really helpful for a beginner in Kanji like me. The quizzes was really cool and the the grammar lessons that packages the learning of Nihongo is really handy if you don't have any idea on what you are studying yet. However, on the Particles part, on its quiz section, I can't fully see the choices and most are blocked on my screen (I am using Samsung Galaxy Y). I'm hoping for a fix on this soon. Thanks for this amazing app.

The best language study and reference app par none Obenkyo has proven itself to be again and again the best language study app there is. The author has an ambition and follow-through on his app which is admirable to say the least. I'm studying (by my self, using books and apps) both Japanese and Chinese and there simply is no application I've tried (and I've tried a _lot_ of apps) that comes even close to this one. This one is worth its weight in gold. ( I originally started using this with my HTC Legend + Android 1.6 - now I use it with my Samsung Galaxy S running CM10.1 Android 4.2.1 and my ASUS Transformer Infinity on Android 4.1.1 )

Not bad, but with a caveat The keyboard during the kana tests is absolutely atrocious. It doesn't make a shred of sense for it to mimick some table that you can't even view. Why won't it let me use the default system keyboard to type in the answers?

Subarashii! Amazing that an app of this quality is available for free! I'm preparing for level N3 of the JLPT and using this mostly for kanji writing practice. The "weighted random" setting seems best for learning by spaced repetition. The stroke recognition is pretty strict, which is probably a good thing. The UI can be a little unclear, but given the number of features, this is a very minor complaint, and not enough to deny a 5-star rating. Highly recommended for all learners of Japanese.

Good with a few issues This app is excellent when it comes to memorizing the kana and kanji characters.. but it has a hard time reading what you drew. The kanji for eat seems to be wrong no matter how I write it out. If that were to be fixed up, this app would be most excellent.

This really is brilliant for learning the japanese This really is brilliant for learning the japanese alphabets. The most useful is the drawing exercise. You really have to know those symbols! This is by far the best app for the kana that I found, it allows you to select which kana to practice - great if you're building up!
