MORE INFO
Supported Phones: GPS Trails Pro is designed and optimized for the Android phones.
Battery Life: While we optimize our code to cut down on power requirements, continued use of the GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life. For longer dayhikes or overnight trips, we suggest packing lightweight battery packs to charge the phone.

[2013-01-13] A Google User: Still have to pay, maps don't appear I thought when I bought the app that things would be included, but no. Yes, you can get offline maps if you pay or spend hours to cache the areas you want at every zoom level you want and there is no easy way to see what you actually have cached. So i came back to check the maps that i cached...they no longer appear... the biggest waste of time ever! |
[2013-01-05] A Google User: Everything has changed. Cannot find my maps on backpacker.com. Eventually found link that they have been moved to trimbleoutdoors.com. Login is the same, but cannot edit my maps without getting a membership. No notification about any of this change. Don't know the future of this app since Trimble has their own. |
[2013-01-05] A Google User: . Used to be able to edit maps when it was run by backpacker magazine. Now you have to pay. I demanded a refund and I suggest everyone does the same. Asbsolute crooks... |
[2012-12-10] A Google User: trimble has screwed their users when i bought this product, it clearly stated the ability to upload gpx files . Now trimble has changed their business model and expect you to pay 30 bucks yearly to get this and other features. I call this a scam, beware new buyers, this app is now virtually useless unless your ready to shell 30 $ a year |
[2012-12-08] A Google User: Wheres zephyr heart rate Adding zephyrs bluetooth heart monitor would be terrific. |
[2012-12-05] A Google User: Great tool Have used it on many hiking, biking and kayaking trips and has helped out with tracking my location. |
[2012-12-03] A Google User: Amazing This is the one of the best hiking apps ever! |
[2012-11-27] A Google User: Real world meets inner space Great do far. The Developers have melded real world experience with an excellent, very versatile app |
[2012-11-25] A Google User: Great for trail making Best app for knowing where the f you are |
[2012-11-25] A Google User: Do not use Small database could not find any of the trails so downloaded other application instead. Confusing application sorry I purchased this. |
[2012-11-24] A Google User: Very good to plan a hike |
[2012-11-17] A Google User: Best i found Works good, needs method to download off line map without all the zooming and panning. |
[2012-11-14] A Google User: Trail runner Excellent product |
[2012-11-05] A Google User: Not lost yet! Works great on HTC design. Just gotta download maps prior getting out of cell range. |
[2012-11-01] A Google User: Easy to use. Like it a lot! Gets signal very quickly. |
[2012-10-21] A Google User: Backpacker pro It is just the thing any basic or pro hiker should have. ilv2fly/rc anything. Brian the mushy man. |
[2012-10-16] A Google User: Doesn't find Colorado trails broken. Again For example I can't find Blue Lake. This app worked before but not now. Fix it and I'll rate accordingly. |
[2012-10-13] A Google User: So Worth it! Ok this has everything you could want, however one feature I wish for is the ability to download your maps differently. Currently you do it by moving around on the map and it stores the map at whatever zoom level you put it at, I wand downloadable map packages with all zoom levels and layers available. |
[2012-10-12] A Google User: Not worth it Good for tracking your own hikes but very few trails in their archives, the only reason I bought it. |
[2012-10-11] A Google User: Lots of free trail info |
[2012-10-07] A Google User: Great app works great so far This is a great app only bad thing is there are no free apps at all with this but the app itself should do to create all your own maps A++ |
[2012-10-02] A Google User: Perfect It shows dirt roads and trails perfect. Exactly what I need. |
[2012-10-01] A Google User: Worthless Searching is terrible, including Colorado in the search yielded hikes all over the country. Searching for hikes sent to me by backpacker yielded nothing by name or trip id. Regret going pro. |
[2012-10-01] A Google User: Handy Needs a feature to tell me how far I have to go on the return leg of a trip or a trip I have previously recorded. Otherwise it's a great app. |
[2012-10-01] A Google User: Don't Not even free would I use this again. Confusing to use. Search function is poor; could not find Fossil Creek, AZ but gave me lots of creeks. Fossil search gives 6 trips with fossil but no combo success. It seems like they just want to sell trips whereas I like to hike and simply map distance and speed. I will keep search ing |
[2012-09-29] A Google User: Worthless Wouldn't let me create an account so I couldn't use it and wouldn't refund my money either. This sucks! |
[2012-09-29] A Google User: Poor zoom level topo Can not zoom in close enough in My Topo. |
[2012-09-29] A Google User: Very nice |
[2012-09-21] A Google User: Completely Broken Trip search now always returns unrelated results. Filtering does not filter. Now just a paid app that exits only to sell you "Pro" trips. |
[2012-09-20] A Google User: Good fun. Everyone loved seeing where we were when media taken. |
[2012-09-18] A Google User: Great tool Useful when used with map |
[2012-09-15] A Google User: Good for not having phone reception Working just fine keeps tracking when I don't have a signal, using the satellite... |
[2012-09-13] A Google User: Awesome Works great |
[2012-09-12] A Google User: Used to hate it! Now I love it! This app is nice now! It would be a great app if its mapping had a heading up option but i only find north up. Too bad. |
[2012-09-07] A Google User: Metal detecting This app is great |
[2012-09-06] A Google User: B Caughern Great app. Preaty much takes place of a hand held Gps unit |
[2012-09-06] A Google User: Needs work I get tiles for map types I'm not viewing in the middle of my map. Ie, viewing topo but get a satellite tile. Support answer? Use a diff map type. Not a good answer for an app I paid for. The process for offline viewing is ridiculous. Going back to Back-country Navigator Pro. |
[2012-09-04] A Google User: my first gps app for a beginner hiker/backpacker I have started getting into hiking and backpacking recently. I use it on my Galaxy S3 from T-Mobile I needed an easy to use reliable GPS off line maps app. I tried the lite version... worked alright. After i got the pro... much better. I love the charts and stats. I hike a lot of the same trails over and over again... its great to see my times improve! I also needed something so i wouldnt get lost and die when i go deeper into the Rockies. love it. wish it had a companion program for my computer. Going to start using it on my Nexus 7 once the get Jelly Bean support |
[2012-09-04] A Google User: No map download Maybe I don't understand how to get this to work..... But I purchased this to use it in areas without cell service..... Fail. It needs a signal to keep the maps updated. |
[2012-09-02] A Google User: Works goods just one small glitch that was fix Good |
[2012-09-02] A Google User: Great app!!!! Love using it in my travels..... |
[2012-08-31] A Google User: Crap Every time I try to look at a map, it says error loading map. Can't pull up any maps, even on wifi. |
[2012-08-30] A Google User: Love it! Great app for the backpacker!! |
[2012-08-26] A Google User: Bug prevents searching for trips It appears that Trimble is focusing on their new Outdoors app and I guess expecting those of us who already paid for this app to now buy that one? The search trip function now returns a server error. |
[2012-08-21] A Google User: Buggy Cached a lot of map data but would not access the cached data unless I had a cell data connection. Un install and refund option is not displayed. Cannot get a refund |
[2012-08-20] A Google User: Good app, but.... Not very user friendly. I'm computer savvy, but sometimes doin what I want is a pain in the a** |
[2012-08-19] A Google User: Easy to use |
[2012-08-17] A Google User: Really useful Helps me with hikes and outdooring, and also a very useful tool to examine topo maps for all the places i go! |
[2012-08-17] A Google User: Good tool, very accurate compass |
[2012-08-13] A Google User: Hiker Worked really great. Tracked entire hike with distances. Showed exact position using gps only the whole way on downloaded topo maps. Easy to use! |
[2012-08-10] A Google User: Doesn't work Trip search doesn't work. In Colorado and this app is worthless.. |
[2012-08-06] A Google User: Good but needs work Love the functionality but storing map data one tile at a time is tedious. Similar apps only cost a dollar. For 5 times that there should be an easy way to store large amounts if map data in a single action. |
[2012-08-05] A Google User: Backpacker GREAT PROGRAM!!!!! |
[2012-08-04] A Google User: Great |
[2012-08-03] A Google User: Great App Great does what it says! |
[2012-07-31] A Google User: What a confusing mess I hope you enjoy puzzles. Maybe it can be useful to some but to call it unintuitive is being kind. Painfully obstructive. |
[2012-07-30] A Google User: Do its job Best app for make and log trails. Comes with helpful tools such as a compass and maps. |
[2012-07-29] A Google User: Graat tool Love it for walking, hiking and cycling |
[2012-07-28] A Google User: Great app Very useful |
[2012-07-22] A Google User: Map downloads need work Needs to have an easier method of downloading maps for offline use. Google maps has a nice feature, downloads all details in one large area with one touch. |
[2012-07-19] A Google User: Not what I expected for $5 This is not a great app. Not intuitive and UI could be improved significantly. It doesn't seem as though anything is easy to accomplish |
[2012-07-10] A Google User: Good idea but has bugs I bought the pro version so I could have my topo maps saved in the cache for use when there was no service. This is tedious though because you have to zoom in and view the entire area you want cached which took me about an hour before my last trip. I would like a method where you can draw a box on a map and have it cache the full detail topo in that area automatically. All of this is useless, however, since on my razr max the backpacker pro app refuses to use the GPS signal when there is no data connectio |
[2012-07-08] A Google User: Map cache needs improvement Make map cache like Outdoors Navigator. |
[2012-07-08] A Google User: Great! Needs polish Navigation could use some refinement, but otherwise... well... there's not much to equal it! |
[2012-07-08] A Google User: OK, but needs work This app is good, but for $4.99, there really needs to be a better way to load off-line maps. Having to browse every map type at every resolution is ridiculous. The main reason I PAID for this app was to use the off-line map feature. Please, for the money we are spending, come up with a more strained way to save maps off-line. |
[2012-07-07] A Google User: Great topo maps Galaxy tab and phone |
[2012-07-05] A Google User: Awesome |
[2012-07-04] A Google User: Not only for backpacking Great for getting around... And back, on city streets your not familiar with. |
[2012-07-03] A Google User: Needs more Needs shapefiles. Greater control of base layers. In short, I want ARCpad for Droid. |
[2012-07-01] A Google User: Jamie Excellent...nothing is perfect, but better than others. Works ok on Razr Maxx |
[2012-06-28] A Google User: Powerful and essential gear for outdoor |
[2012-06-27] A Google User: Fixed! - Won't run with latest update Fixed! -- On my galaxy nexus... opens a browser to an address that doesn't work... program is useless at this point as I can't do anything ... |
[2012-06-27] A Google User: Backpacker pro Great Application can't beat it for the price! |
[2012-06-26] A Google User: getting there!! needs better map cache when more zoomed in.would give 5 stars!! plz keep going. |
[2012-06-26] A Google User: DO GIVE AWAY YOUR PRIVACY WITH UP DATE They your data and phone control do not give to anyone. |
[2012-06-24] A Google User: Cool app Works great, very helpful, great accuracy. Great detail. |
[2012-06-24] A Google User: Happy! Motorola electrify Would be 5 stars if there were better instructions because the features are great but it's not user friendly |
[2012-06-23] A Google User: Autocache would have earned a five Needs the ability to auto cache all levels of a trip from extends to lowest with one touch. The other way is cumbersome. |
[2012-06-22] A Google User: Very good and amazing app It's the best so far and the cheapest, the best $5 I spent on apps |
[2012-06-22] A Google User: Great app Awesome app!! |
[2012-06-16] A Google User: Once you figure it out. . . Once i figured out the controls it's actually exactly what i needed. Offline maps are nice but would like to have more detail. Help files are actually helpful and explained everything i needed to know |
[2012-06-16] A Google User: So far so good Need to try out more. |
[2012-06-15] A Google User: Best You really can't beat this app. It's expensive, but if you think you need it, then just buy it. Nothing is better, nothing. |
[2012-06-15] A Google User: Useful tool This is helpful for those days when I don't have my gps, and saves me the need to carry a gps. |
[2012-06-14] A Google User: Awesome This app is the best I've seen |
[2012-06-13] A Google User: Do it Great Product |
[2012-06-11] A Google User: Ok Works ok but the method of storing maps for offline use is ridiculous. It should be like Locus where you select an area and download the zoom levels you need. |
[2012-06-09] A Google User: Really nice. I just want a function to download specific trail maps like the Appilation Trail or something.. and easy between to points mileage calculation and altitude change |
[2012-06-08] A Google User: Maybe Not... Not very intuitive. |
[2012-06-06] A Google User: Trimble Pro Always liked it from the beginning. Taking pics and knowing where they were taken is the best part. |
[2012-06-05] A Google User: Great app I use it to track all my hikes and it works like a charm. I especially like. Its ability to post my hikes on my Facebook timeline |
[2012-06-05] A Google User: Absolutely Fantastic!!! What a fantastic app! I'm using it to map smaller community nature trails. I'll upload them so they will be available to everyone that frequents the trails hoping it will re ignite local interest in the trails. I'm sure the app will only improve. |
[2012-06-03] A Google User: Doesn't do what I want Difficult to use, doesn't have any maps that are useful. |
[2012-06-03] A Google User: Doesn't have all trails/trips mapped I noticed that while doing a search for trails near my location a lot of them didn't show up. A few of them are very well known backpacking trails as well. |
[2012-06-02] A Google User: Great PC and Phone App Once you get familiar with it, it is very powerful. Exactly what i wanted. |
[2012-06-02] A Google User: Very good Reliable and consitent |
[2012-06-02] A Google User: Happy camper So fun. And it motivates you to do more! |
[2012-06-02] A Google User: Mostly good Not user friendly. It does most of what's needed, but not very easy to use. |
[2012-05-30] A Google User: Awesome! |
[2012-05-29] A Google User: Excellent! I just used this for a trail/camp site inventory for the USFS. It's legit! |
