Calling all Victorian public transport users with Android smartphones!

Metlink’s official customer information app is now available for download in beta.

The beta app provides you with the latest train, tram and bus information on the go. You can:

- check timetables and real-time tram information
- plan your journey
- view the unplanned changes for metropolitan trains
- load your favourite stations and stops for quick access to timetables
- submit feedback using the app’s ‘feedback’ tab.

Your feedback will help us improve this customer information tool when we develop a native app to make full use of Android’s functionality.

Horrible This app is slow, confusing and hard to use. The apple IOS version is a LOT better. If this is the beta I can't bear what the completed app will be.

Interface is quite terrible. Yes, it's a beta, but still not good enough. Too many bugs. Connection errors. Little thought given to usability for this app. Frustrating to use, as evidenced by the other comments here. Screen real estate is underused. Navigation is not intuitive. And Metlink haven't released an update in ages.I would rather have my face ravaged by a pack of angry weasels than use this poor excuse for an app.

Non functioning I can be standing next to a train station and the app pulls up 10 bus stops nearby instead. Obviously a rushed effort so PTV can say they have an android app. About the same quality of service as the system itself.

Updated Vic government "updated" their website (they're useless I know), and this app was updated a year ago... Which means at present this app is useless (unless you want to fill your phone up with non functional useless apps).

Does what it needs to do! The app does everything that you would use it for. Its works well on my galaxy nexus since being updated and getting a larger interface for higher Res screens. So now I have no issues with the app at all. Plus it is a BETA app so it is worth 5 stars at the moment.

Unhelpful and buggy I downloaded this app to look up a train time for tomorrow morning. Such a simple thing to want to do, but I was unable to do it. The journey planner found the correct stations but hung on the search every time I tried. The actual timetable section would only tell me times for the current time onwards. There is no way to change it to an earlier time. Even when "show all scheduled" is selected. Petty useless app. Metlink should really fix this.

Can't specify transport modes I wanted to go from Camberwell near Warrigal Road to Thornbury near High Street. App suggested a 903 bus to Heidelberg Station, thence to Flinders Street, and train to Thornbury Station. Better, quicker routes would have been: A) No. 70 tram to Riversdale Station, thence to the City Loop, Parliament, and No. 86 tram up High Street to Thornbury. B) Hartwell Station to the City Loop, Parliament, and No. 86 tram up High Street to Thornbury. The app seems to prioritise shortest walking time to nearest public transport -- bus, train, tram -- and then compiles a route. It should be looking at the overall time for several options and choosing the one that is quickest. The app does not allow you to specify which modes of transport to use, that is, combinations of bus, tram, train, and walking. If I could have forced it to use just trams and trains it might have given a better result. Needs a lot of work.

Favourites Gone I didn't mind this app - I mainly use set routes so I had these saved as favourites. This was fine until I upgraded to ICS. Now it says it saves my faves (they got lost in upgrade) but they don't save meaning the need to search from scratch everytime. Bollocks.

Awful Apart from the fact find it awful to use, haven't managed to get Journey Planner to ever return a result. Just moved from IPhone to Android and found the Metlink app (before became PTV) great.

What a terrible app The functionality of this app is ridiculous. I wouldn't even bother downloading. Shame on PTV for recently supplying iPhone users with a rebuild of their 'original' app while leaving Android users with this POS. Not only is the train service terrible, there's an app which complements it to a tee- typical!

Execution dreadful This app is utterly hopeless. It is clumsy & chews my data allowance with absolutely NO RESULT when I use the journey planner. Concept good, execution dreadful. The spinning 'connecting' wheel was frustrating and never ending. I went online, searched for, found & downloaded Train Trapper. Started, got relevant timetables, used the app & got results before stopping the metlink app with still no result from it! It stinks!

Promising but so much more to do! This app needs to work better than the website or there isn't any point. At a minimum you should be about to cache locally the timetables (perhaps with auto-update?) and should be able to save a favourite 'journey planner' with 'leaning now', rather than a specific time.
