Voice Notify (v. 1.0.9.1) Разработано Pilot_51 |
Voice Notify announces status bar notification messages using Text-To-Speech (TTS), allowing you to know what a notification says without looking at the screen.
In Android 3.0 and above, toast (bubble) notifications will also be read.
As of 2012-10-14, VN is now open source under the Apache License 2.0! https://github.com/pilot51/voicenotify
FEATURES:
*Customizable TTS message
*Ignore specific apps or notifications containing defined text
*Choice of TTS audio stream (explained below)
*Choice of speaking when screen or headset is on or off, or while silent/vibrate
(Note: Due to API limitations, a headset that is connected when the VN service starts will need to be reconnected for VN to see the current state; also all Bluetooth devices are detected the same, headset or not)
*Quiet Time
*Shake-to-silence
*Custom delay of TTS after notification
*Repeat notifications at custom interval while screen off
*Notification log
*Post a test notification
PERMISSIONS:
Bluetooth - Required to detect whether Bluetooth headset is connected.
Vibrate - Required for Test option while in vibrate mode on Android 4.2.
For technical reasons, VN operates through Android's Accessibility service and must be enabled in the Accessibility settings.
For convenience, options are provided on the main screen to go to the Accessibility and TTS settings.
Android 1.5 is not supported since it doesn't have the Accessibility service.
Just to be clear, VN is intended to be a convenience tool and is not an accessibility tool.
The Accessibility service will give a warning that VN may be able to collect personal data. This is because Accessibility doesn't know what or how data passing through it is used by enabled apps. VN only uses Accessibility to read notification text which is passed directly to TTS and temporary memory (for the notification log). The TTS service (outside the control of VN) may also print spoken text in the logcat.
CAUTION:
Be aware of the accessibility apps that are enabled when you enable VN! To my understanding, the screwing up phone behavior mentioned in some comments is caused by other accessibility apps that were enabled when Accessibility was turned on. If you believe this is not the case and VN is causing these issues for you, please contact me.
ABOUT AUDIO STREAM OPTION:
Note that behavior of audio streams may vary by device or Android version, or my information could be incorrect as I've been unable to test them myself, so take these tips with a grain of salt.
Media stream if you want...
-the volume of VN to match most other apps.
-VN to speak without interrupting audio from other apps (e.g. music).
-VN to speak through an A2DP-compatible Bluetooth device.
Notification stream if you want...
-the volume of VN to match other notification sounds.
-other apps to be silenced while VN speaks.
-VN to use the speaker while a Bluetooth headset is connected.
PROBLEMS:
Please email me or submit to the issue tracker at http://tracker.pilot51.com, don't only leave a bad comment/rating! I cannot reply to comments or Android error reports (unless you leave contact info in the message) and many reported problems require that I ask for more details. If necessary, you can sideload any version from http://pilot51.com/apk/voicenotify.

DISCLAIMER:
I am not responsible for the notifications that are announced. It is up to you to use the features provided to prevent unwanted announcing of notifications.
If you want your device silenced on a schedule, I would recommend using an app such as Timeriffic. (Not affiliated in any way, just what I use personally)

[2012-12-31] A Google User: Simply the BEST! Searched long and hard for an app that would notify & read incoming messages; Bluetooth supported without issues and ads. This is it. Outstanding design, feature rich and no operating issues. Didn't want caller id because its built into my bt headset. Now my phone is fully business ready and hands free. Only problem with app is it's free. Definitely worthy to be sold! Samsung Galaxi S3; 4.0.4 |

[2012-12-20] A Google User: Awesome but Also crap It's really an awesome app. but after enable this app. my music player didn't play sounds with speaker phone. That's d only reason for uninstalling. Without dis problem it's an awesome app. |
[2012-12-15] A Google User: My fone speaks all my notifications so awsome 0_0 my fone is alive haha tyvm for this free app verry nice job =D |
[2012-12-09] A Google User: Outstanding If you need voice notification of what is going on, give it a try. The developer was very responsive when I had a problem. Turns out it was in my speech engine, and not Voice Notify. I can't say enough about how much I enjoy this terrific app. |
[2012-12-05] A Google User: Great app works great wish I had a few more options but for free app works awesome!!!!! |

[2012-11-18] A Google User: Great app The best notification app I've found so far and unlike others you can pick what apps it notifys you about and the night time off setting is bonus |
[2012-11-16] A Google User: good Good app, I use it to read stuff out when I am driving. Bad point: it will only work if the "notification history" app I use is disabled in accessibility. It would be great to work with only certain bluetooth devices, so it won't turn on when I am connected to bt devices other than my car headset. However, there is a workaround I use: I use tasker to freeze voice notify when I disconnect from my car headset, using shell command "pm disable com.pilot51.voicenotify". Then when it connects, I use pm enable, then I use the "secure settings" tasker plugin to turn voice-notify's accessibility permission on and off (voice notify doesn't work for me unless I do this). Works brilliantly now. |
[2012-11-14] A Google User: Mr. Shabazz I love this application. works great, no complaints. |

[2012-11-01] A Google User: Exelent |
[2012-11-01] A Google User: The BEST Solution. Nearly perfect. While there are some things that I wish it had, this app is the best voice notification available. It is light weight and does what you want. The nearest competitor is Voice Alerts and it is cumbersome and even has to ask for your Gmail password to tell you you have a new email. Absurd. What I wish it had...just one thing. The ability to tell me that I have a new Google Voice notification and tell me who its from without reading the whole text. As of this version it is all or nothing. I emailed the dev. |
[2012-10-31] A Google User: Great app Its a really good app. |
[2012-10-30] A Google User: It asks for permissions to collect our credit card numbers etc..why I don't know. Good app but not trust worthy. So Uninstalling...now! |
[2012-10-28] A Google User: Good - needs minor fixes Excellent app if you want to hear the contents of notifications if, say, your headphones are plugged in and your phone is in your pocket. Slightly infuriating, however, is the fact that enabling it causes the phone to enable reading aloud text, whether you wanted that or not. Some more choice of voices would also be nice. |
[2012-10-28] A Google User: Great App Thanks for writing this app. It is great. Been looking for something like this since moving off Windows Mobile. The speech engine is already built into Android but it doesn't have much options. This app gives you control over options. :-) |
[2012-10-28] A Google User: Cool I love dis,app |
[2012-10-27] A Google User: The one and only! IMHO an option to have different (customizable) messages for the different apps' notifications (now only one could be specified for all apps) could make this application even better though. |
[2012-10-26] A Google User: EXCELLENT 5*+++ |
[2012-10-22] A Google User: voice notify I like to use app... |

[2012-09-13] A Google User: Good app, does exactly what it says Would like a little more control over when it's active/inactive, but does exactly what it says it will do. So all good :-) |
[2012-09-11] A Google User: Cool Cool |
[2012-09-07] A Google User: good just what im looking for but one complain about the volume.. it is too low please add volume to the voice |
[2012-08-29] A Google User: privacy mode this application is the best to all but he read the message content. so mr/ms developer can you provide privacy mode for message "read only the sender" |
[2012-08-28] A Google User: Good |
[2012-08-26] A Google User: awesome it is wonderful! |
[2012-08-23] A Google User: No more annoying voice notifications I couldn't turn off voice notifications on my Samsung S3, until I downloaded this app. |
[2012-08-16] A Google User: Glad it's now working for jelly been on my Nexus 7 Great app, I know many things can bet set not to talk but I like it reading me my incoming text and telling me the subject line in emails (on jelly been) as I'm driving or as the phone sits on the table, I know how important something is and I don't have to go pick up my phone, unlock it, just it's nothing important. Thanks for a great app, and thanks for keeping it updated! |
[2012-08-15] A Google User: Poor Used to work well on messaging. Now it just reads the name. I tried to reinstall and still no good |
[2012-08-12] A Google User: Very Good I love it |
[2012-08-11] A Google User: Awesome Works well |
[2012-08-10] A Google User: Good job It would be five stars if sometimes would not stop notifying. Otherwise a very good application as it use very less resources. |
[2012-08-09] A Google User: Awesome Does what it is entitled to do, and that magnificiently... Must have... |
[2012-08-08] A Google User: I like Enjoying to. |
[2012-08-08] A Google User: suggestions Option for each app's customs TTS message gives more customization. Allow or disallow readings of toast notifications per app is also missing. Other than those, the app is perfect. |
[2012-08-05] A Google User: Enjoying |
[2012-08-05] A Google User: Great Its Nice to usung and user friendly |
[2012-08-04] A Google User: Awesome Great app |
[2012-08-04] A Google User: Excellent Great to see the JB issues worked out, although the workaround after reboot always worked for me. I use it in conjunction with Light Flow, which means I never miss a notification, and I can always assess if it's something I need to look at immediately. |
[2012-08-04] A Google User: Use it daily This is a great system add-on. I love having vocal notifications while I'm cycling down the trail. The ability to choose which apps speak and which don't makes it easy to use ans flexible. |
[2012-08-02] A Google User: Very nice... until Until it starting conflicting with Pandora. I noticed when I used my aux in my car i couldn't hear the music. But all was fine when I detached the auxiliary cord. I'd restart my phone, plug it in it would work fine until voice notify would open up and start announcing everything in my status bar. PLEASE FIX... ASAP. |
[2012-08-01] A Google User: Great |
[2012-07-24] A Google User: Very useful application Works perfectly on Huawei Mediapad along with bluetooth headset connected. I can finally get meningful audio notifications such as incoming email alerts. Notification filering by application name helps reduce the `noise`. I only wish to have additional local filtering by keywords per each app. |
[2012-07-22] A Google User: really good works well with my cellphone and I like the customization on how you want your message read out to you. I'm glad I read the reviews for the 1 person who went over to the new system, ice cream sandwich, said it wasn't working well so I'm sticking with gingerbread osi. and it works really great on my cell with gingerbread. |
[2012-07-22] A Google User: Cooooool This is soooo good |

[2012-05-08] A Google User: Does not work I wish it did work. But it's a great concept. None of the reminder apps that I have checked off are being read to me. The only thing it says is "Tasker is acting". When I checked off kickback, my phone constantly vibrates (kind of weird) |
[2012-05-08] A Google User: Outstanding! Does like it says. Now I can get a better idea what's going on with my EVO and my daily events. |

[2012-04-20] A Google User: Not working on Atrix 2 First time install on an Atrix 2 and it doesn't work. I have tried both Pico and SVOX TTS. The test function triggers a notification but no voice is heard. When VN is enabled in Accessibility, the Android TTS Service is started and stopped in Running Services repeatedly. It seems to slow down the system. Update: Reset phone and reinstalled this app. It worked until SVOX TTS was installed. After that even if SVOX is uninstalled, it would still not work. When it was working, it only announced "new email" for Gmail and didn't read the subject lines. Not very helpful. |
[2012-04-19] A Google User: Samsung Galaxy s 2 Good but only works with Pico tts not Samsung tts how can I make it work on my Galaxy please help. |

[2012-04-04] A Google User: Support the Dev I've been on Android for about 2 years now and I love this community. This application is one of the most useful I've tried so far. I've come across a glitch and the developer replied with a thorough method of searching for the possible problem. It turned out to be user error. I accidentally erased my TTS voice data on my SD card. A few things: don't hesitate to email the dev for problems rather than writing insulting comments and let's support the dev and donate for those who can. Let's help the community. |
[2012-03-31] A Google User: Great for driving Really useful apply to have running whilst driving when you're expecting a message |
