Slide Rule (v. 2.3.0) Разработано Timothy Scott |
Ever heard of a slipstick? Or, more appropriately, a slide rule?! What the heck is that? Before scientists, mathematicians, and engineers had fancy calculators, they had to rely on the slide rule for their rapid number crunching.
Thanks to the AWESOME POWER of logarithmic scales a slide rule gives you several computational features using your very own virtual, mechanical computer. With this slide rule, you can: multiply and divide, multiply chains of numbers, find reciprocals, determine squares / square roots / cubes / cube roots, base-10 logarithms, and sines / cosines / tangents / cotangents.
Contains support for both phone and tablet devices. Provides ANIMATED built-in help for maximizing your slide rule usage.
This app will definitely help establish your nerd-cred.

[2013-05-30] A Google User: Great! Teach kids to use these again! So far, of all the slide rules I've tried, this one's the best. Excellent tutorials. Just like one of the ones I own. As my college chemistry prof always said, "you don't have to worry about batteries running out!" They should bring thaw back. There's a learning & development process that occurs in young minds using these. Our kids are being robbed of real education bc of the mindless reliance upon technology like computers. They're dummifying (like mummifying) people for easier manipulation. |
[2013-04-30] A Google User: Nice. Smoother than most antique rules! Thanks! |
[2013-01-18] A Google User: Good slide rule app This is a really good app for just fiddling around with a slide rule. I like it a lot more than Infinirule. This is the familiar layout and functionality unlike the other's advanced/modern interpretation - far more user friendly. Functions very well and intuitively. I have no qualms with the appearance and colors, finish, etc. Very readable and easy to understand. Suggest making inverse scales red (or some other color than black) and adding user selected constants/gauge marks for enhanced usability. |
[2013-01-17] A Google User: Good graphics, amazing help and demos I'm too young too have experienced slide rules. I downloaded this one to learn. |
[2013-01-12] A Google User: Keep your update! To me, a slide rule fits Obi-wan's description of a light saber - "an elegant weapon"! However, while I'm sure that some of the latest changes are improvements, I haven't updated. Based on comments and Play Store images, the authentic, nostalgic look has been replaced by a remedial educational toy. It may be easier to use (hell, I've got RealCalc for that!), but the nostalgic coolness factor is gone. Bring back the former graphics for *****! UPDATE: Now that earlier version has been disabled, uninstalled! |
[2012-12-16] A Google User: Excellent Nicely done, keep up good work. |
[2012-11-17] A Google User: Used to be good Used to be really good. New cartoon interface really sucks. Previous version look like the same 6 inch Pickett slide rule I own. Don't install don't update it will disappoint you. Adverts are major annoyance. |
[2012-09-08] A Google User: Amazing Learning to use this slide rule properly will teach you more about the fundamentals of mathematics than any clasroom. |
[2012-09-04] A Google User: I liked the Pickett style much better. |
[2012-08-20] A Google User: Eh Nice app, but why does it need full network access? Plonk. |
[2012-08-18] A Google User: ****known of the slide rule since 1974. I had a hard time learning the slide rule since 9th grade. But come 11/12th had2 take a Vocational subject for high school so I could graduate and drafting was the chosen subject. |
[2012-08-08] A Google User: Excellent App THERE ARE NO ADS and NO CARTOONs If you want to understand how a slide rule works, this app, using animation and some text, will show you. But, at it's best, a slide rule has only one digit of accuracy. The remaining digits are powers of ten. In other words, the slide rule supported the math to get a man on the moon. But now, like morse code, there is no practical reason to use it. |
[2012-07-13] A Google User: Don't update. Wants permission to access internet. Why? For ads? |
[2012-06-23] A Google User: I want my old slide rule back This used to be a great app. The ”updated” version sucks. |
[2012-06-21] A Google User: Want old style back I liked the look of yhe previous version much better. It looked like a real slide rule. Please bring the previous look back!!!! |
[2012-06-20] A Google User: I still like it. The latest update is still easy to read, it still operates smoothly, and it's still a great way to learn or review the classic way to do calculations. I haven't seen any ads. The help screens are among the best I've ever seen (and I don't say that casually--I write help for a living and have judged international competitions for user assistance). I don't use this app very frequently, but it's one of my favorite apps to show off. This app is a must for anyone trying to create a steampunk droid. Calculating on a slide rule isn't just an old, obsolete curiosity. By showing the relationships between numbers, it's easier to spot egregious errors in calculations. You're forced to think about precision and error propagation. Slide rules also promote an understanding of logarithms. |
[2012-06-20] A Google User: Action_Al It is fun to play with and use to check calculations. |
[2012-06-17] A Google User: Don't upgrade! The beautiful looking graphics have been replaced with a cartoon ... with ads running across the bottom. |
[2012-06-15] A Google User: Copyright 1970? Glad I'm set up for manual updates. I'll keep the old graphics, thanks. Can't see anyone complaining after 40 years, tho. |
[2012-06-14] A Google User: Old look was better Now it's just annoying. |
[2012-06-13] A Google User: Bland update Has better graphics (except cursor) and a 'how-to' help. Now single-sided. (why?) Doesn't copy a real-life slide rule. Again, it's single sided. |
[2012-06-12] A Google User: Big step backwards Abominable since "upgrade". Was awesome. |
[2012-06-11] A Google User: New version... 1 star, old version 5 stars After installing the new version, I immediately uninstalled and restored the old from backup. The old version looked just like my real slide rule. Please put back the old double-sided slide rule! |
[2012-06-11] A Google User: Old graphics were better Used to look like a real slide rule. No more. |
[2012-06-10] A Google User: Used to be great. Now it isn't. |
[2012-06-10] A Google User: Zero stars Now has ads which actually cover the numbers. Totally useless. |
[2012-06-10] A Google User: Frank New version is awful. Gone from engineer's tool to gimmick. Terrible fonts. Half the scales are missing. Thankfully had a backup of previous version. Tried to give it no stars but not allowed. |
[2012-06-10] A Google User: Bring Back Old Graphics |
[2012-06-10] A Google User: Was one of the best... now there suddenly are Ads after this long time of Adfree? Sorry that's a no go, I would have paid but now I will use another one instead. |
[2012-06-10] A Google User: New Permissions You need internet access to display adverts, but why do you need to know the number of who I am calling? |
[2012-06-10] A Google User: Was good, before the update This app used to be great. Then I updated. "advert support" means the scale is partly obscured. New font on menus is difficult to read. I like the improved instructions, but struggle to read them. Uninstalled. |
[2012-06-10] A Google User: You ruined it. The June 9 "update" turns a great professional grade N600ES app into a toy. Unrealistic graphics, unreadable font, condescending "help". Don't call this an "update"; launch it as a new app. I choose the old one. Now get this version off my "update" list. |
[2012-06-10] A Google User: Don't Update Was a great app now sucks. Uninstalled. |
[2012-06-10] A Google User: Terry Disapointed, I lost something good. I paid for the previous version to avoid adverts, now I have adverts that obscure bottom part of rule and threaten to launch if I'm not very careful. Cannot let the kids play with it now. |
[2012-06-10] A Google User: Old slide rule better |
[2012-06-10] A Google User: Undo the last update It was better before the most recent update, it sucks now |
[2012-06-10] A Google User: Good starter stick Very good sliderule and instructions. The beginners and novices shoud have no problem understanding the basic operatios. The version that was replaced was a more advanced stick with no instructions (I am personally thankful that it remained yellow faced) with the confidence to operate this model hopefully users will move on to more advanced sticks and have better computational skills. |
[2012-06-10] A Google User: Network? No! No. |
[2012-06-10] A Google User: New version sucks Was disappointed when I updated and found that this formerly beautiful looking app has been replaced with a crappy cartoonish looking slide rule with ads at the bottom. Un-installing it now. I bought this app for nostalgia, which is mostly gone now. |
[2012-06-10] A Google User: A little better With the last update it became more bearable but I still miss the old graphics but the new help part is good though. |
[2012-06-07] A Google User: Beautiful in its simplicity. I've wanted an app like this since I got my first smart phone. I rated 4 stars. I'd give 5 if I could zoom in and out. I'd give 6 if I could switch it to a circular rule. |
[2012-06-04] A Google User: Great App! This app is both fun and accurate. Just like having a Pickett slide rule that never needs calibration. |
[2012-05-29] A Google User: Looks classy, and it really works! |
[2012-04-30] A Google User: Best apps Thanks Developer |
[2012-03-17] A Google User: Awesomesauce!!! Buy an old-school model for a c-note, or d-load this baby for free? You know MY choice for flashin geek-cred! A braniac's no-brainer! |
[2012-01-31] A Google User: Ok, but not as accurate as I expected. |
[2012-01-17] A Google User: Awesome but would be nice to have a permanent landscape option. |
[2012-01-05] A Google User: Awesome, works great Thanks for the memories. |
[2011-12-29] A Google User: Simple and to the point Does what you would expect. |
[2011-12-25] A Google User: Didn't knew what slide rule was until a week ago, couldn't try it out until now! |
[2011-12-05] A Google User: Perfect |
[2011-11-24] A Google User: Sucks |
[2011-11-04] A Google User: I still have a couple of old Statlers. I just can't bear to put then up on eBay, so they sit in the desk drawer. Now, I have one with me always. :-) |
[2011-09-28] A Google User: Interesting app and excellent graphics. Would like to keep but a bit big for the Desire. Please could you transfer to SD? |
[2011-09-27] A Google User: Exactly what it says it is - simple and elegant. Any chance we could see additional models as a selectable option (N3/N4 for instance)? |
[2011-09-20] A Google User: Old world charm |
[2011-09-16] A Google User: Good, wholesome nerdy fun. My Friday night is now shot. |
[2011-09-06] A Google User: It doesn't save state, so you can't flip between apps to do a lengthy calculation. But that's ok, I have 150 or so real ones for that. GREAT program! |
[2011-08-11] A Google User: Slide Rule I like it Tim, you did a good job. ***** |
[2011-08-11] Randolph: Slide Rule I like it Tim, you did a good job. ***** |

[2011-07-09] A Google User: Cool. I'm an engineer in my thirties and have heard a lot from the older guys at work about these. Now I know how to use one. Nice GUI. |

[2011-07-07] A Google User: Want rule to remain in same position after switch to other app. Zoom:show additional precision/entire slide rule. Post Versalog? Training module? |

[2011-06-15] A Google User: Cool!! A good feature to add would be a setting to always keep the cursor on screen as the body is scrolled left or right. |

[2011-05-23] A Google User: Brilliant!! As a collector and user of slide rules this is the perfect app, the juxtapostion of the vintage Pickett N-600-ES with the state of the art android smartphone is superb. |
