Set DNS (v. 2.1.2) Разработано mytechie |
SetDNS is the easiest way to force your rooted phone to use custom nameservers on WiFi for all devices AND 3G/mobile networks on rooted devices. Works for both IPv4 and IPv6 networks and nameservers.
------
JELLYBEAN 4.2 NOTE - THERE IS A PROBLEM SETTING WIFI IN JB 4.2 (certainly on Nexus 4). I WILL POST AN UPDATE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
------
Preserves your custom nameserver information when using both wireless and 3g/edge mobile connection. WIFI Only with non-rooted phones.
Comes with google, opendns, opendns family shield, fooldns settings, enter custom DNS servers and option to revert back to DHCP.
Includes widgets that will show the current DNS state and if you have DNS Pro installed, will allow nameserver changes by clicking the appropriate widget.
In normal mode, this app doesn't change *any* system files (unlike some DNS apps), so you don't need to back up your nameserver details. Just reverting back to DHCP will go back to your normal network settings.
You can update the resolv.conf file within the preferences if the normal settings don't work. This will modify the contents of the resolv.conf if it is writable, after taking a backup.
OpenDNS Family Shield settings can be used to filter adult or inappropriate content on the phone.
Using alternative nameservers like Google DNS or OpenDNS can dramatically speed up your browsing. You can also bypass local DNS filters such as Nawala.
Set DNS also checks if your browsing goes via a proxy service that overrides your DNS settings. When network settings change, it will try to access a URL directly using the IP address. If this hits the right server then you have a direct connection to the network. If not, then a proxy is intercepting the connection and is using it's own nameserver information.
Proxy testing is turned *off* by default. You can enable it in the preferences.
I've had some feedback about net.rmnet0.dns[12] not being changed (there's a comment here too). The app doesn't change these settings by design. Changing net.dns[12] is sufficient to change the DNS lookups on the device. However, if I get more requests for the rmnet0 settings to be changed, I'll add in an option to override the interface specific DNS as well. Just drop me an email.
====
If you have any problems with this - please email me or leave a message on the google plus page (see the About option) before rating on the market. Most problems are due to cached DNS or network proxies rather than the app itself.
In particular, testing against sites such as opendns will fail if going through a mobile carrier's proxy.
====
******
If you find this app useful, please consider buying the Set DNS Pro app which activates locking, control widgets and non-rooted functionality.
******
Please note, entering the wrong nameserver details can break your internet settings.
=========
NON-ROOT FUCTIONALITY
If you install this on a non-rooted phone, please understand that some people are reporting in the market that it breaks their WiFi.
Unfortunately these people report the problem in the market yet don't get in touch with us so there's no way to resolve it. As a result, please consider the non-root functionality "beta" status and install on your device at your own risk.

[2012-12-24] A Google User: Minor bug My phone keeps restarting twice a day, I think this app may be the cause. Perfectly functional otherwise. |

[2012-12-22] A Google User: Trial for non-root users DO NOT download, if you are a non-root user, this arrogant snob gives you a 24 hour trial. |

[2012-12-14] A Google User: Why it fetch the root permission? Why it needs the root permission when it is not running? The system keep talking to me that the app is granted the root permission. |

[2012-12-14] A Google User: Now i can access blocked page. But apps will cause the data to go crazy and lag out the phone. The app is alot better previously. |

[2012-12-10] A Google User: love this app so much with it,i can see the picture on Google Play, use FB,more and more... special like the new UI |
[2012-12-10] A Google User: Does what it says on the tin. Minimal, but it works fantastically. Actually works unlike the equivalent DNS changer in Rom Toolbox. |
[2012-12-08] A Google User: Confusing Just didn't seem to do the job for me on galaxy nexus on 4.2.1. Though this could be because the UI isn't very intuitive, and there are no instructions. There's also no indicator on screen to let you know if it's been successful. I consider myself very techy, so I was disappointed that I just couldn't work this out. Worth giving a go to see if you have more luck than me though. |
[2012-12-08] A Google User: Cant use Please fix it for jelly bean, cant change the dns.. |
[2012-12-08] A Google User: Set DNS Above average |

[2012-12-06] A Google User: cool apps because now i can watch porn whuahahah |
[2012-12-02] A Google User: Small and Useful Only one wishlist : Can selective choose on which WiFi to automatically activate and which ones it should stay put. But still 5 stars, nonetheless :-) ... Update: Was without this for the past several weeks (too busy troubleshooting ROM bugs)... and wow! The interface is now very beautiful! Well done! |
[2012-12-01] A Google User: Great app! |
[2012-12-01] A Google User: Good, could be better It is a great app. However, I wish it would stick to android design guidelines. |
[2012-12-01] A Google User: Great app! But the new UI is cluttered compared to stock Android. Too many sizes n colors of fonts used with too little spacing. 'Option' button instead if standard '3 dot' doesn't help either. It looks suffocating! Update: Developer responded with a better UI within a week, cheers! |
[2012-12-01] A Google User: Works well The UI update is a step in the right direction but I agree that it's too cluttered. The Gingerbread arrow at the right looks ugly, the little text under Choose Provider isn't necessary at all, the overflow icon (three dots) should be used instead of "option", the table at the top looks kinda ugly. |
[2012-11-30] A Google User: super app even better now that it got improved interface |
[2012-11-29] A Google User: not working on Asus transformer tablet non-rooted version does not work on asus transformer tablet though it worked on HTC Desire. pity that trial version is just 24 hours |
[2012-11-26] A Google User: Good Simple, works. |
[2012-11-26] A Google User: Good Works. Current version forces portrait mode though which is not good on a TF101, it's hard to type on a physical keyboard sideways. |
[2012-11-26] A Google User: Great app. One request. The ability to use different first and second DNS servers. |
[2012-11-26] A Google User: Great Tool Please optimize for tablet use. Land scape needs to be an option on certain tablets. |
[2012-11-26] A Google User: Kenceng.....wush wushhhh Goooddd...... |
[2012-11-25] A Google User: Very well Works best for internet provider which limits u to certain sites |
[2012-11-25] A Google User: Now even Faster and more stable But the new UI... |
[2012-11-25] A Google User: SGA2 best of the best app |
[2012-11-25] A Google User: Statusbar This is one of most important app for me, but please add an option in preferences to hide application icon from statusbar. We will be very grateful. |
[2012-11-25] A Google User: Works perfectly Must have app |
[2012-11-25] A Google User: Widget broken The 1x2 (should be 2x1?) widget is broken in the 2.0 update. Agreed with others that you should keep to Android's UI guidelines and use the three dots for settings etc. Aside from that, the app itself is fantastic :) |
[2012-11-24] A Google User: Zooo Not working on my Xperia p, none roote |
[2012-11-24] A Google User: DNS security Reliable control, top app. Thanks. |
[2012-11-21] A Google User: . Did "work", but shortly made my phone get hot and caused the Launcher to continually crash. Phone became unusable. I repeated this more than once to check. Uninstalled. |
[2012-11-21] A Google User: OpenNIC coverage, phenomenal dev support Here's an app that works just as it should, flawlessly. Great support by the dev, was willing to work with me on a couple of technical issues. Oh and did I mention OpenNIC is now supported? BTW this app works fine on an unrooted SGS2, definitely an added bonus for me as I'm not quite ready yet to root my phone. Updated: works flawlessly om rooted phone. Don't believe morons like Randolph who say it made their phone "hot". Where do these people come from? |
[2012-11-20] A Google User: Galaxy W |
[2012-11-18] A Google User: Not Great Will NOT do anything on my WiFi network making this app useless for me. |
[2012-11-16] A Google User: Use dns changer instead Asks for money and only supports wireless whereas dns changer supports everything |
[2012-11-16] A Google User: Not rooted Setiap 1 hari selalu balik lagi je awal dnsnya, harus ke pro tapi harus keluarin uang , aplkasi ini bagus tapi kurangnya suka balik lagi ke awal setiap 24 jam gtw kalo yg lain By : kevin alfa mohede |

[2012-11-14] A Google User: Perfect update 10/12 Works good. |
[2012-11-14] A Google User: WOW thanks This is lag on galaxy young :( |
[2012-11-13] A Google User: For tethering Definite must have for tethering if your network provider is preventing you to access the internet. No more manual ip addresses. |
[2012-11-12] A Google User: Great app! My previous review was one star, out has become a give start app. Works as it supposed to unobtrusively and reliably. |
[2012-11-12] A Google User: like good |
[2012-11-12] A Google User: Brilliant Like em' so much.... I can surfs on blocked site.... |

[2012-11-11] A Google User: Best of type, IMO Does the job, doesn't cause problems, easy to use. All around satisfactory app. |
[2012-11-11] A Google User: Great one Needs an adjustment for dark themes btw |
[2012-11-08] A Google User: Messes with dialer messes with the dialer app, gonna have to uninstall it until it is fixed |
[2012-11-05] A Google User: Worth paying for just to support the dev Helps me with certain apps not able to connect due to AT&T/Straight Talk. |
[2012-11-04] A Google User: Humm Hmmm |
[2012-11-04] A Google User: Still no better Not no better than the last time I tried it....Only app Ive ever had luck with is DNS Changer by Eddy Pey... |
[2012-11-03] A Google User: Thanks you fixed my problem |
[2012-11-01] A Google User: Does not work This does not work on unrooted phones like it claims on wifi! |
[2012-10-28] A Google User: Good Easy to use! |
[2012-10-24] A Google User: Good app |
[2012-10-23] A Google User: no go on unrooted archos No go here. Unrooted trial wouldn't change DNS at all on ics Archos 80. But on rooted Archos 80 it works fine. Just annoyed it persistently runs even after forcing it to stop it simply restarts once a network connection is detected.. another annoyance is its constantly checking for root access. |
[2012-10-23] A Google User: Nice!! Using opendns familyshield on my phone now !!! Thanks so much :-) |
[2012-10-18] A Google User: Does as described. No problems for my S2. A database to store custom list of servers not listed as default would be good. |
[2012-10-17] A Google User: Freezes, needs DNSCrypt Does not work on GNex (4.1.1) after reboot. After rebooting, no app can successfully get for root perms. Please, in addition to fixing this add support for DNScrypt, including over udp443 if needed. There is a precompiled binary already available for android on github. |
[2012-10-16] A Google User: Force procedure Could you please include and on demand way to enable setdns instead of letting it force dns settings everytime the phone is in use/wakes, in the next version? My root access logs are HUGE because of it. Also, the major issue here is that my dialer, when launched, gets lower priority because it includes data that is synced and as such, setdns again is set again automatically. I have noticed that since the last update, setdns puts the dialer on hold until dns is set. Very annoying to wait.... |
[2012-10-15] A Google User: Not free on non rooted devices 24hr trial period is set on non rooted devices, also caused wifi connection to continually authenticate Uninstalled |
[2012-10-14] A Google User: Great but... On my sgs3 it constantly shows the pop up text of the change of DNS on 4glte and 3g data. -1 star for this |
[2012-10-14] A Google User: EVO LTE FreshROM531 Made my 3g speeds immensely better. Only issue is the status info at the top of the app is cut off. Fix that and I will update my review. |
[2012-10-13] A Google User: Worked at first... Then for some reason it made all root apps fail to request root access (even though it was already given to them). |
[2012-10-13] A Google User: Good Goooood... |
[2012-10-12] A Google User: keeping granting su terrible app fcked up my wifi I cannot connect now |
[2012-10-12] A Google User: Great app DNS works |
[2012-10-11] A Google User: Exactly what it says on the tin Does exactly what it says on the tin. |
[2012-10-11] A Google User: Flashing "super user permission granted..." It does change the DNS as stated, however I find my phone unusable because I get superuser permission granted notifications every 5 seconds. |
[2012-10-07] A Google User: Good Nice fast internet |
[2012-10-04] A Google User: Awsome app! Before I installed typical speed was 550-600 Kbps. Now I reliably get 1.7-1.8 Mbit. I reccomend using in conjunction with PDAnet 3. When I tether my laptop I get 2Mbit easy on 3G! Haven't tried pro yet. Just install pick your dns put of the many choices and speed test to find best dns for you. Thanks! |
[2012-10-02] A Google User: Working Great Kudos..no problem at all.. |
[2012-10-02] A Google User: Works perfectly Does exactly what it says with no bugs |
[2012-10-01] A Google User: ... ...... |
[2012-10-01] A Google User: Great from China Great tool when in China enables you to quickly use much faster external DNS servers. Works with Proxy and VPN clients. |
[2012-10-01] A Google User: Simply. Great! |
