OTA RootKeeper -no 4.3 support (v. 2.0.3) Разработано supercurio - Project Voodoo |
Free tool trying to protect root across manufacturer's OTA updates.
Also serves as temporary un-root (see statement)
Distributed as free of charge - no warranty. Open Source license: WTFPL.

This application makes a backup or a protected backup of your device's root.
This device must already be rooted: OTA RootKeeper doesn't have the ability to root devices.
If several conditions are matched, OTA RootKeeper will make root survive OTAs and... pretty much well anything :) − except /system partition formatting.
Requirement:
- /system partition as Ext2, Ext3 or Ext4
- Upgrades not formatting or overwriting completely the /system partition.
Typical systems where its perfectly effective:
- Nexus S
- Galaxy Nexus
- Every Honeycomb tablet
Typical system where the protection won't work:
- HTC Desire
- Samsung Galaxy Spica
- Samsung Galaxy S / SII
The application doesn't support original Superuser and not SuperSU for a very simple reason. The same feature OTA protection feature is already present in SuperSU.
In most case, only manufacturer's original recovery is able to install OTAs. It should not interfere with OTA update process itself.
A bonus feature is present, allowing you to un-root your device while keeping a su backup.
This way you can naively hide root until you choose to restore it via without further complications.
This nifty feature work on every rooted device.
** Temporary un-root statement **
This feature is designed for dev purposes in order to test their app with or without root.
The goal here is not to encourage stupid and unacceptable behaviors by movie or content sellers trying to prevent you to purchase or watch digital media you purchased if your device is rooted.
Vote with your dollars: Don't accept being a customer of companies restricting your freedom with defective and and inefficient technical measures.

Notes:
- Please help making the app work on devices I don't know/own instead of giving useless bad ratings.
- It seems I have to repeat that. Comments & rating doesn't help fixing bugs. Take responsibility if you want problem solved.

[2013-07-29] A Google User: Thanks The app worked well on my new Nexus 4 for 4.2 -> 4.2.1 -> 4.2.2 As the author states, it's broken for 4.3, so it's better to find that out now than in November 2013 when 5.0 KLP becomes available. |
|
[2013-07-28] A Google User: Root Keeper? I don't see any way to save my root status. There's only an option to unroot. To me, that's the opposite of keeping it. |
|

[2013-07-24] A Google User: Too good Had to update to the RAZR HD system version 9.18.79 which takes away root and make Dan Rosenburgs method unusable. This app saved me the annoyance of having a constant system update reminder which if installed would take away my root. Thanks a million times over. |

|
[2013-07-18] A Google User: Well Done!!! I had to think if this app is worth the third "!" in the title. Here's my story why. I finally got root on my phone and this update comes along. The issue I have is I really like having root but I'm obsessed with having the latest software version even the ones with just bug fixes. Who doesn’t love bug fixes? Sickos that’s who. As I sat there pondering the ramification of my decision a memory popped. "OTA..." something. A quick search of Play produces "OTA RootKeeper" OK, this sounds promising and it two steps above doing nothing. The first step above nothing is putting a sticker on your car for whatever issue you support just enough to deface your car for. Now in my case they would think I had an issue with "Oklahoma Turnpike Authority" which isn't too bad but I live in NY. I install the app, slam a few buttons and say good luck Maxine, yeah my phone is name Maxine. I couldn’t stand the wait for my update any longer and hit the install update. After the reboot I went Root Checker pro (yeah I liked it enough to go pro. Worth the buck) but alas root was gone. I was sad for moment but then I cheered myself up with the fact that the rooting community is populated with pretty good eggs |
|
[2013-07-17] A Google User: Worked perfectly Can't say anything bad about this one. Worked great with no problems. Thanks! |
|
[2013-07-16] A Google User: Works well with Foxtel go I was annoyed after Foxtel go finally was released for Samsung only to find out it doesn't work on rooted devices. After installing this app and temporarily unrooting, Foxtel go works. Thank you for a great app. 5 stars |
|
[2013-07-16] A Google User: Worked flawlessly! I was a little cautious about this app... But I used it to update and keep root. AMAZING! not one problem. |

|
[2013-07-05] A Google User: Very useful Great app... I was unable to root my phone on a later version and this let me keep it for permanent root availability, THANKS! |
|
[2013-07-03] A Google User: Excellent I've run through several S3 OTAs on Verizon and root keeper has done its job every time. |
|
[2013-07-01] A Google User: Not sure it works Installed & did a reset to zero & still shows as "modified". Did a check for OTA update & it gets stuck in searching status. Before it stated can't update due to modified. I checked from my laptop & it said I have the lastest update so I'm not sure if it even works. |
|
[2013-07-01] A Google User: Just rooted my phone Lol |
|
[2013-06-29] A Google User: Stellar! Keeps root on my Verizon Galaxy S3 At some point I found myself with Verizon pushing out an OTA update that no one had figured out how to root. This was my only option for keeping root access and it works beautifully. Install it and forget it! It keeps a backup copy of the SU binary and re-roots with a single click after an official OTA update. I've gone through three updates, the latest in late June 2013 to Android 4.1.2 vzw build VRBMF1 and it's worked every time. If you don't care about a custom MOD and just want to keep root access AND have official OTA updates, this is the ticket. Think of this as root insurance if your carrier pushes out an update and you lose root - just click and you're back in business! |
|
[2013-06-24] A Google User: Works perfect! Used it on international galaxy s4, restored root immediately after updating! This guy is a genius! Please give him some sort of technological award. |
|

[2013-06-06] A Google User: Galaxy 2 10.1 - OTA updates not available It does not work on Galaxy 2 10.1 P5110 WiFi. Rooting is disabled but still does not get OTA updates, it shows "Your device has been modified. Software updates are not available". Any issue? |
|
[2013-06-03] A Google User: Amazing! |
|
[2013-06-03] A Google User: Didn't work. It did not restore root after update from 4.0.4 to 4.1.2 OTA. Also DON'T MAKE A NANDROID BACKUP AFTER PROTECTING ROOT with this app, or else the phone will restore to a black screen. |
|
[2013-06-02] A Google User: Good It is great. I will try it when it's time. So far no problems. |
|
[2013-05-31] A Google User: Brilliant. I rooted my phone just prior to the latest Verizon OTA update. I dreaded the thought of having to unroot, update, and then re-root the phone. Then I came across this app. I was able to temporarily unroot, update, then restore root with only a few clicks. Amazing. |
|
[2013-05-31] A Google User: Works like magic Excellent app Keep my root perfectly Thanks |
