MediaFix (v. 1.2) Разработано gorgonloop |
Thanks to everyone who has downloaded and tried MediaFix, and thanks for adding your reviews here.
I've now changed my phone (my Galaxy S2 died suddenly), and I no longer have any problems with the music on my new one, so I won't be maintaining MediaFix any more ("He's been maintaining it?", I hear you ask!)
Rather than let the code go to waste though, I'm making it available on Bitbucket so that hopefully it can be taken and made to work on devices that are still having problems. Assuming that anyone can understand it, of course!
Head to https://bitbucket.org/Peter_H/mediafix to grab a copy.

PLEASE NOTE:
1) MediaFix was created to work around a problem on the Samsung Galaxy S II, and it has only been tested on that device. If you have a different device, it may work (and it's free, so you have nothing to lose by trying it), but don't be surprised (and leave 1-star feedback) if it doesn't work.
2) The app will only process .m4a or .aac tracks. It will ignore any tracks that are not .m4a or .aac.
3) The app only works with tracks that show up in the Music app. It doesn't scan the filesystem for tracks. If you can't see the track when you open Music, MediaFix won't see it either.
Description:
Various versions of Android seem to have trouble handling the metadata tags in audio files, resulting in MediaStore database entries that have incomplete data.
MediaFix scans your MediaStore database for mpeg4 (.m4a or .aac) tracks that have the artist set to "unknown". For each track, it parses the mpeg4 metadata structure in the original file to extract the track title, album name, track artist, track number and disk number, and updates the MediaStore database.
No changes are made to the original tracks on your SD card.
To see a list of files that MediaFix will attempt to fix, tap the "files to fix" number.
Known problems...
I've only really tested on a Samsung Galaxy S II running 2.3.3, as that's my phone. I know that it does work on other devices, but I know that it fails on some too.
I haven't been able to find a way to update the album artists for compilations (I get an "unsupported operation" exception when I try), so compilation albums show the artist for the last track fixed.
There's a bug in Android relating to the way Genres are stored. Samsung has implemented a workaround, so genre updates should work on their devices. On other devices, each track will still appear under the "Unknown" genre, but should also appear under the correct genre.
Disclaimer...
There should be no chance of MediaFix causing any major problems with your device (it only updates the MediaStore database after all), but you USE IT AT YOUR OWN RISK!! I accept no responsibility for its operation on your device.

[2012-09-29] A Google User: Does not work with Samsung Rugby I847 Had great hopes for this app, but it did not fix my Samsung Rugby Smart I847. I started with only 2 songs that needed the fix. The app said I had 3 to fix. I ran the fix and it dropped to 1 to fix and will not come off that no matter how many times I run the fix. Hoping that the app will be updated at some point for my phone using gingerbread. Thanks for trying though. I give 5 stars for the extra effort. |

[2012-08-22] A Google User: Thank you MediaFix Couldn't be happier. 519 files fixed on my Galaxy S in less than 30 seconds. The thought of manually fixing files or converting to mp3 or purchasing a player was something I wanted to avoid. Shame on samsung for not fixing this. |

[2012-07-23] A Google User: Woks on the Exibit II This worked perfectly just like it was suposed to. I figured it would work since the Exibit II has a very similar firmware to the Galaxy S. :) |
[2012-07-21] A Google User: Fixed my music library after upgrade (Galaxy S) After an official upgrade of my Samsung Galaxy S from Froyo to Gingerbread I lost all my album art and tags such that everything was '<unknown>' except for MP3 files (and most were M4A from iTunes). I spent hours looking for a fix and tried lots of apps with variable results and lots of manual data entry or complex steps. This one fixed all the tags automatically in seconds. It isn't intended to deal with the album art problem though. Couple this app with running Cover Art Downloader (free from Google Play) over your music library and the PROBLEM is SOLVED. Thank you so much! |
[2012-07-19] A Google User: Did nothing Tried on my ATRIX. Found the files but didn't fix them |

[2012-07-12] A Google User: Quick Easy the Perfect Fix Am seriously blown away with how quickly and easily this fixed my library. I was looking at having to do major iTunes surgery so my phone's music library didnt look like garbage but this sorted it out for me in about 5 seconds! Amazing. |
[2012-07-12] A Google User: Thanks! This also works on the Samsung Infuse. My ID3 taga destroyed themsleves when my phone was restored. This fixed it. |
[2012-07-08] A Google User: Awesome! Thank you for fixing up the Kies import mess in less than 10 seconds. I had spent hours trying to figure out a solution. |
[2012-07-06] A Google User: fast and accurate - Galaxy S Used on Samsung Galaxy S. Worked perfectly and fast - once I figured out you have to go into settings to turn on labeling feature when first launched. Kies stripped artist / album labels and this puts them back. Thanks! |
[2012-06-30] A Google User: Doesn't Work and Crashes I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2.0. The first problem I had was that I clicked scan and the did nothing. The second problem was that the app crashed frequently whenever it was running. I'll keep the app installed on my tablet, despite it not functioning, in hopes that future updates will allow me to use it. |
[2012-06-25] A Google User: Dedicated developer Does exactly what it needs to with no problems. |

[2012-06-14] A Google User: Simple, but brilliant Recently upgraded my Galaxy S (GT-I9000) to 2.3.6 an just found out that all my m4a's weren't coming up properly. Every website I found recommended this app, and now I know why. Let's hope the GSIII doesn't have the same problem. Brilliant fix for a dumb manufacturer's bug. |
[2012-06-10] A Google User: Samsung Galaxy Ace - mediafix This is an absolutely fantastic app! It corrected my complete playlist after the download from itunes changed all artists to unknown. Worked a treat, big thank you!! |
[2012-06-09] A Google User: Not permanent-android sucks. It works, where my galaxy s+ fails big time, but corrections are not permanent. Music on android sucks. |
[2012-06-02] A Google User: Doesn't Work Doesn't Work. |
[2012-05-23] A Google User: Does its job, but a little crashy It fixed the m4a files on Galaxy Tab running Honeycomb perfectly, but crashed if I tried to use any other function and then return to the main screen (like the settings or file list). It fixed my music library in a hurry though, and for that I applaud it! |

[2012-05-01] A Google User: Solved problem with metadata on songs from iTunes App does what it claims. Thanks. (Update: doesn't seem to be working with ICS unfortunately) |
[2012-04-30] A Google User: Fixed the tags, but... After launching the app for the first time, it said that there was one item that needed to be fixed. This was incorrect, but I hit the button anyway. It did nothing the first two times I hit it. The third time, it fixed all of the tags, deleted all of the artwork, and then crashed. I can't launch it anymore. (LG Optimus S, Android 2.3.3) |

[2012-04-20] A Google User: Works like magic Until Google, Apple and Samsung grow up and actually introduce some interoperability, I'm glad there are clever people to create workarounds like this. |
[2012-04-19] A Google User: Terrific! A refreshingly genuine app Fixed my problems in under 30 seconds, worked perfectly and had absolutely no problems- and it wasnt sneaky and needed to read my phone calls or anytbing like that. A refreshingly genuine app. 5 stars |
[2012-04-17] A Google User: fixes basic Android flaw (c'mon google get to it) Great, works as claimed (on Samsung Galaxy S). Wish it also updated artwork but at least I can use my iTunes purchases as you expect again. Slightly helps the very lacking 'android experience' for me however clumsy this whole Google + Samsung environment might be overall. |
[2012-04-16] A Google User: Fixed it. Worked great on my Infuse, and kept my album art. |
[2012-04-13] A Google User: Superb Many thanks for helping to get my music tags (and my spare time back!) after doubletwist wouldn't display artist names for most of my collection. Great work! |

[2012-04-01] A Google User: Great app - works on Samsung Galaxy Ace This app is great - I was tearing my hair out with Kies. I have a Samsung Galaxy Ace and it sorted pretty much all the name/file/ tag issues I had with my music files. It wasn't too happy about fixing over 900 tracks at once, but turning the phone off and on again meant that it did it no problem in a couple of batches. Thank you! |
[2012-03-26] A Google User: Excellent This is one of the most useful, easiest to use apps out there. Simple interface. It just works...and it's free! |
