Have you ever been listening to music in your car at full volume, and then when you plug in your earphones forget to lower it? This app stops that from happening by automatically setting the volume to one of two levels when the headphone is plugged or unplugged. It can also be set to automatically mute the phone's ring and notification sounds when headphones are plugged in. It can also be triggered from any Bluetooth audio device being connected or disconnected.

I've tried to keep this app very simple, to match its very simple purpose. When you first download the app, or update it, you must open it at least once to configure it and to start the background service that allows it to work. You can alternatively restart your phone, although you don't have to, because the app will start itself at boot after it is installed.

The configuration has two sliders and two checkboxes: The sliders control what volume will be set when the headphone jack is plugged in and when it is pulled out. The first checkbox controls whether or not the app will mute the ringer and notifications when the headphone jack is plugged in; if it is enabled, the app should return your ringer to what it was before it was muted once the headphones are unplugged. The second checkbox controls whether or not Bluetooth audio devices will trigger Hearing Saver.

After setting it up, theres nothing more you need to do. The app will run a small service in the background and set your volume presets when the headset is plugged in or unplugged.

This app is Open Source and licensed under the Apache License. All source and issue tracker is available at http://code.jakebasile.com/hearing-saver/.

-- Known Issues --
- Bluetooth Disconnect happens after a long delay. This is beyond my control, as it is a delay in my code receiving the broadcast.
- Only works on Unplug on the HTC Incredible. This is because HTC broke the standard method that I hook into in order to change the volume.
- Sometimes doesn't upgrade very well. If you are having problems, please try uninstalling and reinstalling.

Great, simple and free! I bought Tasker a while ago because everyone said how great it was. But I couldn't find many uses for it, so the only thing I used it for was what this app does. Now I uninstalled Tasker and use this instead. THANKS, works great! Edit: Was having trouble with my phone not detecting when I unplugged a headset. I'm not sure if it's a hardware problem or not, but disabling Hearing Saver seems to have solved the issue.

Almost perfect Works great except it does not change the phone vol when using a headset. (ICS not sure if it has anything to do with it). So when u listen to music ans someone calls you. You will still get ur ears owned by their "hello"

Great app - only 1 major issue found While I set the volume for comfortable lows for music and phone notifications, I took a photo and the snapshot sound was $#(*& loud! I still give 5 stars because it's a good, safe app and doesn't need to access my GPS coordinates like most free apps do. Good concept, not bluetooth compatible With regular headphones, it works as advertised, and it is a great idea. But with Bluetooth headphones (for me, Motorokr S305 on Vibrant), it causes the sound to continue coming out the phone's speaker after connecting the headphones.

Perfect Listening to my music, call comes in, the Musc pauses, the ringtone is at a nice comfortable volume. When I unplug headphones it restores normal volume to my ringtone. No stupid notifications, no complication. So simple and quite simply perfect!

Awesome App! Great, didn't have to install any bloat like locale. Does exactly what it says. I also agree that it should be included in the default build for all android phones. This was the last thing that separated my old iphone from my android phone. Thank you so much! 5 Stars and well worth it.
