Graffiti™ is a replacement for the built-in on-screen keyboard, also called an input method. With Graffiti, you no longer type but you draw Graffiti characters with your finger or a compatible stylus. Graffiti characters are mostly single-stroke drawings that closely match the usual alphabet, but are simplified to make entry faster and easier. For example, the letter "A" is entered with a stroke that looks like an upside-down "V", saving time that you do not need to cross the "A" in the middle. Same for the letter "T", which is entered almost like a "7".
There are text and numeric input areas, improving the recognition of your input. Strokes drawn in the text area will only be interpreted as letters; strokes in the numeric area will be interpreted as numbers.
If you were a user of a PalmOS based PDA in the past, this will all be very familiar to you as the input method used by those devices was a stylus drawing Graffiti strokes in an input area at the bottom of the display. But even if you were not a Graffiti user before, you should give it a try now if you find that the on-screen keyboard doesn't suit your input style.
Don't know the Graffiti alphabet? After installing and enabling Graffiti, just draw a stroke up from the Graffiti input area into the main display area and the help screen appears. Tap to switch between the six stroke help screens.

[2012-01-25] Kevin: Does not work with Honeycomb version. Graffiti does not seem to work with latest version of Android. Installs properly and the input dialogue box appears, but does not accept any input... the ads appear though :( |
[2012-01-17] the 1/23/2012
[2012-01-16] alexdeleon: It makes me remember... Just like the Palm method. |
[2012-01-15] s: almost perfect for some reason 'n' sometimes does backspace and 'l' sometimes does e or c. |
[2012-01-14] Brian: No Gingerbread support Does not work on Android 2.3.6. |
[2012-01-13] Tim: Great! Would be 5 Stars if the Graffiti area was bigger in landscape mode on Honeycomb, but otherwise great! Now I just have to get back to my old speed with Graffiti! |
[2012-01-12] jp: Just great! Finally an application that can contribute greatly to my productivity at work. My work requires me to write a lot of stuff. And I have say, handwriting input/grafitti is still the most efficient. As a Palm user before, this is the one feature I miss. I had always hoped that the tablets of today would have handwriting input. Thanks for resurrecting this technology. Handwriting input/graffiti is indeed still relevant to a lot of users despite the advances in todays consumer electronics. Works well with Galaxy tab. |
[2012-01-10] enzeth: spam spamming with ads... unfortunate, its a great idea... |
[2012-01-06] Cosmic: WAS GREAT FOR SEVERAL MONTHS TIL NETFRONT LIFE BROWSER AD TOOK OVER THE GRAFFITI PAD! NOW LOCKS PROG - HENCE THIS ALL IN CAPS, CAN'T TURN IT OFF! |
[2011-12-28] the 1/6/2012 : After the last update I started getting ads in the Graffiti area, which is a little disconcerting. Other than that, works well. |
[2011-12-17] NickD: Retro happiness I loved Graffiti on my old Palm, and this app doesn't disappoint -- does what it says, and because I already know Graffiti, I was instantly productive with it. I'm glad it uses the original Graffiti 1, which was better than version 2. However, I miss the "wide" input layout that was available on the Palm, where upper and lower case letters were entered in separate zones -- easier and faster than using the shift stroke. Apart from that minor quibble, it's a treat. Graffiti is easy and intuitive to learn; if you can print in block letters you are halfway there. |
[2011-12-14] Luna Torquill: Fails on Intercept Installs fine on the Samsung Intercept (Froyo), but will not enable; it doesn't show up as a text input option. Too bad. :( |
[2011-12-08] cheletwin2: Doesn't work on inspire I installed this but it doesn't appear as a keyboard option. |
[2011-12-06] Thomas: Best compromise between speed and precision I use Swype for writing emails and so forth, and it's very fast, but it's worse than useless when you're trying to enter text URLs, terminal commands, or any other character strings that need to be 100% accurate and won't show up in your dictionary. About three quarters of the notes I write to myself include hardware serial numbers from my company's inventory, and the auto correct just goes berserk. I can tap the data in, of course, but that takes too long to do without mistakes. I was actually using a drawing program to jot down my notes until I tried Graffiti. It took me less than an hour to master the whole alphabet and the most commonly used symbols. I haven't memorized all of the more obscure symbols, but the built in cheat sheet lets me look them up any time I need them. The program comes with its own auto correct function, but I leave it turned off because of the way I'm using it. The bottom line is that I can now enter strings of arbitrary characters quickly and accurately without having to constantly look down at my phone. The paid version is well worth my three bucks, and is one of the best purchases I've made for my Galaxy S. |
[2011-12-06] Cecil: Good, but not for tablet. Graffiti remind me the days I was using Palm OS. It may still good for small screen device, and but it is not suitable for tablet like Asus Transformer. |
[2011-12-03] Elhaam: Ok Nice app but better typing options available |
[2011-11-19] Ken: Ok if used with stylus I found that once I got the hang of the graffiti gestures this works very well provided you use a stylus, I did have issues getting it to recognize numbers though. It is however a fair bit slower than using a stylus with the android keypad. |
[2011-11-19] dummzeuch: Works and is fast, even without a stylus I tried MobileWrite first but Graffiti is much better. No lags and it works just the way it used to on PalmOS. For those not familiar with the letters: Draw a line from the entry area up and you will get the help screen shown in the first picture. some thought: Entering German Umlauts is as much pain as it was with the original PalmOS. There used to be a hack for this: Enter the letter and draw a horizontal line above. If this app could do the same, it would be even better. |
[2011-11-16] Rui: most useful app ever I can't believe this is so unpopular... much easier to write! |
[2011-11-15] Steve: Great app This app is great. Wonderful solution to typing on the small keyboard |
[2011-11-15] Kenneth: Wrote this with graffiti faster than I ever could with those tiny little keypads. Great app |
[2011-11-12] Binyamin: Android with graffiti = SUPER APP I waited for a long time for the app which allow me to write in android without the uncomfotable keyboard. Graffiti is the same as on my palm. PERFECT |
[2011-11-12] Tony: Didn't work on EVO 3D Installed on EVO 3D, enabled in settings but would come up, still got standard QWERTY keyboard. Even tried rebooting. Worthless to me. |
[2011-11-11] Reuben: Just the same as hand writing box, uninstall |
[2011-11-09] Ed: Android with Graffiti = super Palm! |
[2011-11-08] Brian: Woot. Consistent and easy to learn. Can be used one-thumbed without looking at screen. |
[2011-11-04] abutoma: What we have been waiting for! And now: costomizeable letters! Worth paying for. |
[2011-11-02] Brian: Great App I havc tried all the paid apps for writing on Andriod. This one by far is the best. |
[2011-10-26] the 10/26/2011 Been waiting for tis apps ever since the 1st day I gotten my Android phone. Thanks! Finally feel like back to the good old day with my Palm IIIxe... |
[2011-10-18] Weerasak: Eventually found it This app is the only one reason that I change my winmo phone to android |
[2011-10-15] Ben: Finally! Works exactly as described and easy to set up. Although not as fast as swype, it is exactly like our old palm. Evo |
[2011-10-09] piper: Perfection Longtime pda user. Been looking for something just like this for a while. Works perfect |
[2011-10-06] mrk: At last! I have wanted this forever. It seems as good as the original, plus has type ahead. |
[2011-10-05] qgolden: Works exactly as it should. I used to use Palm so I had an edge with this App. Take some time to practice the letters and it is awesome. Samsung Galaxy Tab. Q-man, |
[2011-09-28] DJ AnthonyM, USCanthony: Great Application This is great. One suggestion, on my old Palm T3 if I started a letter on the letter side but ended on the num side it would cap that letter. |
[2011-09-25] the 9/28/2011 Doesn't do the original justice |
[2011-09-23] Donnie: Pro? Happy to pay when it works without internet connection |
[2011-09-21] John: Works just like the real thing! I love it. It's just like my old HTC phone. |
[2011-09-20] Anthony: works great on my HTC from palm years ago to the HTC phone this is great ! (help screen is easy to get to fast) and after a few minutes back to lightning speed thank yiou |
[2011-09-18] Champaine: Just like the old days... Used this 10y ago on Palm;glad to have it now.I have fine motor issues & tiny keyboard makes me crazy(-ier)!Easy to switch btween if needed. No probs. |
[2011-09-12] damienfz: Works great How do i put Puncuation marks |
[2011-09-10] Rylee: horriblc Sucs sgs2 |
[2011-09-09] fossphur: I had a palm device for years and graffiti still comes naturally, and I love the easy access to numbers, symbols, cursor control, greater accuracy |
[2011-09-09] woodjohn: Definitely works for me. I have tried various other in-put methods, w/ and w/o auto-complete. I keep going back to this one. Not perfect, but very very good. On my Incredi |
[2011-09-08] Satoribomb: This is the one thing missing from every device I've owned since buying a Treo in 2005. So glad it's available - beats a soft-keyboard hands down. |
[2011-09-06] Pokester: Awesome! Great for us giants & futz-fingers... faster than typing! On -screen reminders-- esp. For symbols could be better. Still great, Thanks! |
[2011-09-05] Sean: Not bad, too slow compared to auto complete and predictive text on HTC. Will be looking for full cursive handwriting recognition. |
[2011-08-31] Jared: DX This is dumb and takes way to long |
[2011-08-21] Marc: Almost There This would be perfect, but the ads can cause freezes. Samsung Captivate. |
[2011-08-19] rchill: Don't know |
[2011-08-15] Nicole: I'll have to practice again, but I'm so excited! Thank you Android! |
[2011-08-13] t: I remember loving writing on my palm m100 & graffiti is almost as fabulous on my Samsung Galaxy S... only almost: I can't add shortcuts, & no ÞþÐð :( |
[2011-08-12] Haider: A great idea , but not just for me ... others would love it as you can see from other comments but others would find it hard to use , like me :P |
[2011-08-11] Janssen: Great app, just like using my palm from the past. Now using this for all my text input & is faster than swype. Cheers gsi9000 |
[2011-08-11] VictorK: Far better than the keyboards available Full Disclosure: I'm a PalmOS person so I didn't have to learn Graffiti, I've known it for 10+ years. That said and as much as I prefer this over the on-screen keyboards. With this I don't have to look at the screen while I am trying to enter data. I can type in German/Spanish without having to switch over to another keyboard for the special characters. It's great! Why only 3 stars you ask? It doesn't have direct access to copy/cut/paste like on the Palm and I don't have shortcuts. Please add those!!!!! |
[2011-08-08] RobertB: Blast from the Past Just like the Palm input method I've been using for over 10 years! Even the stroke help is unchanged - that's not good, "short cut" is Palm-only! |
[2011-08-06] Beluga: Great for phones with small screens Love it! Reminds me of my Palm IIIx |
[2011-08-01] Halfbeing: Doesn't work on Xperia X10 Mini Pro. |
[2011-07-31] florin flueras: It would be nice to can define ourselves the strokes (I will use the unistrokes alphabet, much faster, simple and accurate) |
[2011-07-22] the 7/24/2011 Good, but doesn't support polish letters. |
[2011-07-19] prihatin: File is so big & can't be moved to sdcard! Something should be done about this! |
[2011-07-18] Alen: I keep v.2.0.4 free version without ads and no need to buy like newer versions. |
[2011-07-17] Lee: Great app but be aware Great app, and my only input method now. However, if you have a password enabled phone lock; make sure you know how to 'enter' otherwise you won't get into your phone! Simply input your code, and then do a diagonal line from top right of input area to bottom left. Many thanks |
[2011-07-11] DS: Reminds me of the Palm PDA As soon as I buy a stylus, this will bring back old memories and allow me to quickly input text with one hand on the tablet. Thanks for making this apps, it is awesome. |
[2011-07-10] emily: Worst game ever |
[2011-07-10] Jeanne: Won't use update w/ads but will purchase paid version. |
[2011-07-08] Samantha: Itz okay....but if u try to make something that takes two strokes it thinks itz two different letters.......do not recommend. |
[2011-07-07] Tess: So happy to finally have graffiti again! I used to have this years ago on my Newton and have missed it ever since. Works like a dream! |
[2011-06-26] CCPD: Definitely has a learning curve, but good. Fortunately for me, I used Palm devices with Graffiti input for years, so I could jump right in and write at a very high rate of speed. Definitely a learning curve there for people who are not used to it, though. The biggest problem with Graffiti at this point is that it was designed for an older level of technology. It doesn't really support all of the characters that one needs to type in a modern environment, which makes it unfortunately not as useful as it once was. I am using Ultra Keyboard, now. |
[2011-06-25] Anthony: without enter button |
[2011-06-22] taryn: Love it!!! People are just idiots lol all my letters come out right. It just takes practice. Plus there is a guide. |
[2011-06-20] Whitney: One of the most pointless and disappointing apps I've downloaded. |
[2011-06-17] meatwad: Confusing |
[2011-06-16] Bailey: hard to do, can't figure out how to type anything, and it has ads. uninstall. |
[2011-06-15] cuete: Great, exactly like Palm's Pretty fast, clean and accurate. Significantly faster than the keyboard for symbols, international characters and punctuation marks. If you're already familiar with Palm's Graffiti gestures: It works just the same (no stylus!). I had my last Palm about 5 years ago and it took me about 5 minutes to get it all back. If you're not familiar with the gestures: All it takes is some practice. Just google "palm graffiti gestures" and start practicing the strokes. |
[2011-06-04] Gabriel: Works great! It recognize almost all! I just have to improve my speed. Just one sugestion: make a button to hide, it takes 30% of the screen |
[2011-06-04] bvirtual: Great idea, but it struggled to recognize many letters. Eventually became too frustrating. What a pity. |
[2011-06-04] Stone2065: Wow, flashbacks. I am amazed. I have had several of the Handspring PDAs over the years, and this is FAR better than I had hoped. What also amazes me is that I remembered the old key(?)strokes for the letters. Very high accuracy. I don't know what flavor of crack these people that are having problems are smoking, but it's a real home run. Great job, dev. |
[2011-06-03] Dilly Bar: Holy shiz! This thing is cr@p! Only recognizes half my letters, and slow as h3ll. HTC Thunderbolt |
[2011-06-03] Owen: You have 2 download somthing and then it will work DONT BUY IT! Owen |
[2011-06-01] brett: Too slow very ... Wont type 1st letter of -lph-bet. |
[2011-05-31] Natsu: Just like my old palm 3! it works just like the one in palm pda :) |
[2011-05-31] duncan: Crap. Not even amusing to use. |
[2011-05-27] Nic: Works great. if you are concerned about privacy then tap and hold in your password/credit card box and switch back to android keyboard for that box. |
[2011-05-26] Penny: love it! |
[2011-05-23] Angela: wouldn't show anything or open, WASTE OF TIME, STUPID - LG optimus |
[2011-05-23] emily: Im concerned that is says u can capture passwords, but im REALLY excited to find this app! Works wonderfully! |
[2011-05-21] Anakhsenamun: Really bad. Doesnt recognise letters. N's come out H and a's come out as u's. Very diffucult to get one word into text space. Had to uninstall F a i l |
[2011-05-21] Amy: Works well, and the ads don't get in the way. I'm pleased enough to buy the pro version, though. |
[2011-05-18] Isaac: Works well. But swype is 10000x faster |
[2011-05-15] Deb: Love it, but need to make it app2sd enabled - it takes up alot of space |
[2011-05-12] ae: Ads in the writing area? Really? Japanese recognition is actually just romaji graffiti input; i'm not sure why i expected something more than that. |
[2011-05-12] nerd65536: This really takes me back to my PalmOS days. This is the only keyboard I can type on without looking at the screen. |
[2011-05-10] Greg: Works great on the DroidX. |
[2011-04-20] Calvin: Great emulation. Brings back the good ol' days. |
[2011-04-17] CobaltandIndigo: Not the fastest input method, but I love it for writing without looking at the screen now that I've gotten back up to speed with it. Darn X's, tho! |
[2011-04-17] Emma: Doesn't work. It won't open! HTC Tattoo |
[2011-04-10] Renold: Super |
[2011-04-08] Oju: Im an old palm user and this is great. 1nce u get used 2 it u can "type" without looking. Now all I need is a stylus |
