GPS Widget (v. 1.2.12) Разработано Wolfgang Knecht |
This widget simply shows your current location in numbers. GPS coordinates are received from the GPS location provider or from the network location provider if GPS is not available.
The altitude is queried from open MapQuest API which yields in a more accurate result than receiving the altitude by GPS. So this widget is also interesting for hiking (altimeter).
GPS coordinates can save lifes in emergency situations (e.g. when you get lost in the mountains).
Features:
o Display your current location in numbers
o Additional information (Street, City, GPS satellite fix)
o Shows your altitude with high accuracy
Locked features (can be unlocked with some Good Karma ;-)):
o Share your location with friends via SMS, Email, etc.
o Different location formats are supported (Latitude and Longitude in Decimal Degrees, Degrees/Minutes, Degrees/Minutes/Seconds, Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM))
Note 1: To save battery power you should switch off the widget when you do not need it. You can force the widget to switch off automatically after some time in the settings.
Note 2: This is no GPS toggle widget. You can not turn on and off GPS. You simply get clear information about your current location.
To add widget press: Home->Menu->Add->Widgets->GPS Widget
If you like the widget, I would be glad if you donate (its free for you) and earn some Good Karma Points in the settings view!
The widget needs the following permissions because:
o Your location: it's obvious ;-)
o Network communication: query altitude, donation via Tapjoy
o Storage*: donation via Tapjoy
o Phone calls*: donation via Tapjoy
(*) You don't want to accept these permissions? Get "GPS Widget Pro" without the option to donate -> no "Storage" and "Phone calls" permission is required.

Also can click on it to open Google Maps or Google Earth very easy with location already acquired. Not too flashy just does exactly what it is supposed to and well. Edit: Also shows the address you are at. |

[2012-09-08] BLack_Pete: Fantastic for telcos I work for a telco in Australia, and because of the size of our continent, we often have requests to make a new connection in a place which is not included in the National data base. On thos occasions we ask for GPS coordinates. Normal maps programs can be a bit difficult for an unskilled customer to use for this purpose. Now I can recommend this widget which is easy to install and quick to use. Five stars from me. |
|
[2012-09-07] Joel: 1 click GPS toggling! Only devs as far as I can tell that managed to get past the api 'no less than 2 clicks' problem. Nice. |

[2012-08-24] umar: Umar 5 STAR |
|
[2012-08-11] Ishmael: You Must Be Joking! Accuracy within 60m? Stand on the 50 yard line and look at the line at the back of the end zone. Now imagine the same distance all the way around you. This app doesn't give you a location, it gives you a general direction. |
|
[2012-07-20] chris: its useful it shows your location addy. the only difference with pro version is a $1.99. stick with the free version! its the same widget. |
|
[2012-07-06] Charles: Cd Love it. It knows where I am better than I do. |
|
[2012-06-20] Matt: Are you joking???? Karma points?! |
|
[2012-05-26] Possum Cop: HTC G2 Love this app! Very fast and accurate. |
|
[2012-05-23] Captivate: GPS keep-alive ! My phone's GPS is finicky, hard to get a fix, and easily losing it. I was looking for a tool that keeps my GPS active on demand, because I got tired of losing my fix every time I close Maps or Navigation apps. This widget was the answer! Allows me to activate the GPS from the home screen, and keeps it active (you can see the GPS activity icon at the top of the screen on at all times, even when you exit your navigation app). Just as easily you can turn it off. I finally have control over my GPS ! |
|
[2012-04-23] Lal: Awesome |
|
[2012-02-21] Thomas: Awesome! Extremely accurate! |
|
[2012-01-27] wolfgang: Cool I like it! |
|
[2012-01-08] Kirk: Delete Says its free but everything is locked until you donate. I am donating my return of this app |
|
[2012-01-02] David: Good, but has serious flaw I need a simple widget that will show my current location in decimal degrees. This seems perfect, right? Almost. I love everything about this widget except one extremely important thing: only uses 4 digits right of the decimal, and I have write 5 down on my legal docs. Other apps use 6 digits! Why the inaccuracy? Tried paid version. Same thing. Got refund. Disappointing. |
|
[2011-12-29] Brian: Really useful |
