The status bar shows the month and day of week and today.

The month and day are displayed in English.

You can specify application launch from the status bar.

To display the date and day of the week - "DayWeekBar"
- Display the Sun "DayBar"
Display the day of the week - "WeekBar"
Has been released for free as well.

Datebar White English Small, compact, fits right in in color and size with the other notification bar displays, it's really nice that it has the month name, day date, and the day of week as displayed. Perfect for me. Gets a 5 star.

Simple, free, perfect If icon is too small check out this developer's other app called "dayweek bar." Thank you - this is an excellent alternative to other over-priced date-in-tray apps Developer gets 5 stars for a simple and effective app that works perfectly, as described, and doesn't intrude or play games with users in order to over-charge them. This app is an example of how to earn user loyalty, and in turn, donations. Will keep a close eye on all "Sakura Soft's" development efforts.. very happy.
