Speed Reader (v. 1.4) Разработано P Garrison |
Speed Reader uses a method called Rapid Serial Visual Presentation to allow you to read faster by eliminating the time spent in moving your eyes between words. Watch the center of the screen, do not move your eyes, and try not to "subvocalize," or say the words in your head. Do not listen to music or attempt to multitask while using SpeedReader. If you find it very easy to read and absorb every word, consider increasing the speed. With practice, speeds of 600 wpm are not uncommon.
Supported file formats include:
.txt
.pdf
.epub
.html
.xml
and other markup languages
Speed Reader Gold is now available!
Benefits of the gold (donate) version include:
The prestige of being in the elite
A shiny new gold icon
Updates about 15 minutes before those regular users
A happier developer
Supports custom colors, any speed, and multiple words at once.
Speed Reader can also help those coping with dyslexia because it orders words correctly. Other color options can also aid in reading for those suffering from dyslexia. If you are using Speed Reader because you have dyslexia, it is suggested that you keep the application at a low speed.
Speed Reader requires access to the external storage in order to convert .pdf and .epub files to .txt files. Files that are not .txt files get converted to .txt, and these .txt files are saved on the external storage to be accessed quickly later.

[2013-10-29] A Google User: Length of the words It's a good app, but when it comes to long/hyphenated words I don't catch them. It would be better if the long/hyphenated words went ever so slightly slower than the shorter ones. |
[2013-10-29] A Google User: Great app The only thing I think it needs is a way to adjust the font size, I have to hold my phone away from me most of the time, would be nice to be able to set a smaller font size. |
[2013-10-29] A Google User: Need more options Please add the option of reading sentences (not just number of words) and I will buy the app |
[2013-10-21] A Google User: Amazing, but one thing If you can add how many lines are on the screen, instead of just one. I'll five star this app, and buy the 2.50 app as well. Pretty please! :D |
[2013-10-18] A Google User: Excellent! Great creative and practical app. This app keeps me on task getting through material for study and learning and somehow makes learning easier. God job dev! |
[2013-10-07] A Google User: This is the best speed reading app. The only thing that could make this better is the ability to rewind by a few words. Trying to rewind or find your place with the scroll bar is cumbersome and inaccurate. |
[2013-10-07] A Google User: Perfect Perfect For Skimming |
[2013-10-06] A Google User: Great Great app - thanks so much! Echoing other reviewers in that it would be great to be able to adjust the font size. |
[2013-09-24] A Google User: Doesn't work Either says incorrect format or displays end of file message in txt and a bunch of squares while reading a pdf |
[2013-09-21] A Google User: Good concept Good concept but seems useless if you read sentences twice sometimes like me. But it works. |
[2013-09-14] A Google User: Needs work Would be better if navigating through a book were easier than scrolling by percentage (very confusing). Say, support for scrolling per word/phrase/sentence forward/back would be useful. A speed test feature would also be nice to track progress. Also, I wish it supported more file formats like *.mobi etc. |
[2013-09-13] A Google User: Great app Love how u can adjust speed and no of words. Would love to see that the font size could be adjusted too, so that it would be easier to switch from reading on the phone to reading books with smaller font size. Great app!! |
[2013-09-04] A Google User: Absolutely amazing! Finally someone who makes a useful speed reading app that allows me to put in my own files and doesnt require a lot of access to personal information! |
[2013-08-31] A Google User: Easy to use. Works great! This is a breeze and does exactly what it needs to do. The one improvement I would make is to be able to see the page/book/file as a whole to accurately choose a starting point. It's hard to skip over the table of contents and acknowledgements when your just trying to guess what "percent" off the book it ends at. Maybe make that a "Gold" status feature. I would buy it! |
[2013-08-06] A Google User: A decent implementation This is an okay app, but it won't be great until it pays more attention to the cadence of the words and displays longer words for a longer period of time. This is especially true of words that are joined by a hyphen or a double dash. Make this improvement and I will be happy to buy a license. |
[2013-07-29] A Google User: 10x 4 you |
[2013-07-05] A Google User: Unintuitive I'm sure it's probably a great tool, but for the life of me I cannot figure out how to get the thing to actually see any text at all. I can't even get it to read anything from the clipboard either. It seems one has to be a developer or an android whizz to get this tool to actually function. So from that perspective it gets a "fail" from me. |
[2013-07-04] A Google User: Bug makes it useless Font size keeps changing to keep width of text constant. Makes reading painful. Let me know when you fix this. |
[2013-06-19] A Google User: Missing font size Without the option for font size, the app is useless if you dont have a device it was made for. This font is too big and its unreadable. Cant understand why there isnt an option for changing font size. |
[2013-06-09] A Google User: Needs fine tuning of app features Potentially good speed reader. It has some issues when I tried. Shows squares within text on loading, possibly misrecognised letters. When you increase number of words on screen, they all show in one line and font size becomes smaller to fit all words in one line. There should be word wrapping so that font remains the same by displaying that many words. If such things are fixed it can be great. With above limitation the only way to use it is to keep word limit to up to 3 on screen to keep font size same. |
[2013-05-27] A Google User: Nice idea but It drives me bonkers and reading faster doesn't allow one to properly absorb and ponder new information. |
[2013-05-27] A Google User: font sizes!! Need to keep font sizes constant, otherwise, kindof useless. |
[2013-05-09] A Google User: Does wat it says Works Better with epub files. I love this app. Only one suggestion, The navigation is not upto the mark, could be improved. |
[2013-05-04] A Google User: Doesn't Work Unfortunately this does not work for me. Just says 'End of File' followed by nothing. |
[2013-04-19] A Google User: Faulty Won't work. I want a refund. |
[2013-04-15] A Google User: Great! This app seriously helps with speed reading! |
[2013-04-11] A Google User: Great Probably the most useful app on Android! |
[2013-03-24] A Google User: Met the ecpectation... thx... :-) |
[2013-03-18] A Google User: Great app Just keep the speed slightly above your comfort zone and soon you will be able to keep up with it. |
[2013-02-26] A Google User: Pdf PDF dont work it just comes up as black screen or blocks |
[2013-01-06] A Google User: Great Great application let's you add any pdf and read it quickly my reading speed is increasing every day |
[2012-12-02] A Google User: Cool idea Cool way to train yourself to stop subvocalizing. Great it works with ebooks too. |
[2012-11-19] A Google User: Excellent! Simple app, effective concept. Works on a pretty rubbish phone (Samsung Galaxy Y Pro B5510) so I rate it highly for all of those reasons above. You do have to blink sometimes, adjust the speed, change the background colour and move the phone back and forth sometimes so as not to strain your eyes, but it is very good. I read at 350 words per minute for half an hour while on the bus. Highly recommend! :) |
[2012-11-18] A Google User: Thank you I have been using this every morning for about a month... after I got used to the method Is read books in anywhere from 2-5 hours depending on the book. My bus ride is a cumulative 3 hours, so I knock out a book per day during my commute. Impossible without this app. Tracking the paragraphs and lines takes SO much time. Request: can we make this legitimately full screen? System menu bar + Speed Reader title bar are visible when reading. Also swipe to pause and show previous words. Cant speed read a date. |
[2012-11-06] A Google User: Is for dylexic kids or what cause im confused o 0 ----- I dont even know how to start it |
[2012-10-27] A Google User: Thank you so much! Going to buy paid app just to show my appreciation! |
[2012-10-26] A Google User: 5*, for sure!!! I'm a book worm, but am a bit slow at reading. This app is like a perfect gift for me. Thanks p garrison, for such an intelligent concept!!! (still some minor bugs, though) |
[2012-10-21] A Google User: Its close using it to read pdf files is useless. Usually it will fail or just not read it correctly. I transferred docs to text files and that's when it will work great. I wish it would would with my eTextbooks from my Kindle account but I make due. If you can create text files for the reading you want to do that it will be great way to learn speed reading and getting work done. |
[2012-10-16] A Google User: Simple Brilliant App Highly recommended although I would suggest converting your own files to text first before opening in this app. Pdf's don't always open cleanly. My only wish is that you could choose another font. I would buy the gold version if it offered this. Excellent for plowing through books and if you really like a challenge try speed reading books upside down or sideways as it will stop subvocalisation. |
[2012-10-15] A Google User: Amazing This app could change education itself. So simple but life changing for me. |
[2012-10-07] A Google User: Re |
[2012-10-04] A Google User: works well but... Nice App, it worked without any problem with .txt files. My only complain is about the font size . It's too uncomfortable for my eyes, and the size changes depending on the size of the word so it's really confusing. I'm used to read regular font size (books, internet...) so it would be great to choose the font size to fully enjoy this app |
[2012-09-30] A Google User: Works Now reading at 400 |
[2012-09-21] A Google User: Speed reader Sooooo awesome! My just wish words would also scroll from right to left. Highly recommended |
[2012-09-18] A Google User: Best app for speed reading ever I have been struggling with speed reading for some time. This app solves everything. It reads epub, txt, pdf, html... you name it. It will generate a txt file out of it. The app is not responsible for format issues on the original document. I love the idea of being able to set bookmarks. If the PDF has been scanned but not OCRd, then you can't get anything out of it. Look for PDFs that can be reflowed. I read a lot on my Kindle (custom room CM9), but now, I read A LOT. I finish books on an hour rather than days. Depending on the content, 600 words per minute are not excessive. I can get good ideas on how to develop for Android just reading like that, or Forex trading, or anything else. I would love for the app to detect periods and maybe add a feature to stop, rewind and re-read the last 100 words or so at half speed. You might get across an interesting point but going back is a hassle. Sincerely, get it and start enjoying the books that you keep putting aside. At least, get the juice out of them. Thanks P Garrison, you injected new life on my Kindle. |
[2012-09-17] A Google User: Use it all the time! The parsing isnt perfect but I find it a good substitute to a real book besides. I like to set it to display a larger number of minimum characters at a lower speed- that way the font size stays more consistent- say 30 characters or so. |
[2012-09-11] A Google User: Pretty good Works well fopr what it does, but I would like different fonts, no bar at the top and the ability to share text with the app/paste it. |
[2012-08-17] Shubham: 5*, for sure!!! I'm a book worm, but am a bit slow at reading. This app is like a perfect gift for me. Thanks p garrison, for such an intelligent concept!!! (still some minor bugs, though) |

[2012-05-24] A Google User: Almost there.. Great app, but what I find distracting is the way the font changes size depending on how many words are on screen. If this were constant, then five stars. |

[2012-05-02] A Google User: Could be better It would be really good if you could keep a constant font size and/or change the alignment. It's a bit hard to read when the size of word keeps changing and it's position. |

[2012-04-08] A Google User: Very good basic speed reader I love it. The one feature I would like to see is an unobtrusive method for increasing or decreasing speed -- maybe by the volume bottoms or something. To have to stop reading and go to another screen to change speed breaks the flow & rhythm. Put that feature in the Gold version and I'll buy it! |

[2012-03-28] A Google User: Almost perfect Only useful app of its kind and very reliable. A few more options like font size and the ability go back a few words when necessary would make this a world beater. (Not to be vulgar but i would pay good money for a five star version!) cant wait for a solid update |
[2012-03-28] A Google User: Features beyond reading don't work Everything was fine until the bookmark spaces got filled up. From there it wouldn't let me delete them when I got further in the book/started a new book. I have to move the % bar all the time which is anything but precise. Evo 4G |
