Epistle (v. 1.2.1) Разработано kookLab |
Epistle is a simple and clean text editor that can sync all your notes with Dropbox.
It also supports the Markdown language, with a live preview of your notes.
Main features:
- easily manage your notes
- sync your notes with Dropbox
- share notes with other apps
- import text from other apps
- view or edit your notes in fullscreen mode
- view a live HTML preview of your Markdown formatted notes (must be enabled from preferences)
* Currently there are synching issues with notes containing accented, non-Latin or special characters in their title. I'm working to fix this.
* To correctly work with Dropbox and MS Windows, a note title can't contain the following characters:
/ | > < : ? * " ;
[2013-02-09] A Google User: Folders please Fifth star once folders arrive |
[2013-02-09] A Google User: Nice Would like to see better performance when opening and closing larger text files. It seems a 30kb file makes it lockup for 20 seconds or so when closing the keyboard and/or leaving (even before it syncs). Also, an "open as read only" option would be nice for when I'm out in public and trying to refer to my grocery list here and there... I'm afraid I'm gonna do a "butt-edit". Definitely 5 stars with slightly more polish. |
[2013-02-07] A Google User: Simple and Works Well Super clean interface. Works well. I uninstalled Simple Notepad in favor of this. Synced perfectly with Dropbox with no additional add-ons necessary. Using on Nexus 7 (Jellybean) and LG Optimus Black (Gingerbread). |
[2013-02-07] A Google User: Love it. Best note app |
[2013-02-04] A Google User: Great App All my notes belongs to me with this app!. But after I enebled two way authentication with Dropbox, Login is not working anymore. Please consider fixing. |
[2013-02-01] A Google User: LOVE IT I love love LOVE this app. Would gladly pay for it if it had support for sub-folders and other text-based file extensions. And that's saying a lot, because I pretty much use only free apps. (Oh it would also be nice to be able to use it as a text editor for ANY text file, like when I select one from my android file browser.) |
[2013-01-31] A Google User: Nearly perfect I use it everyday, in parallel with NvAlt on Mac. The only real issue I have is that it only support .txt files, but I would like to use .md too. |
[2013-01-30] A Google User: Just needs some shortcut keys! With the addition of a Markdown key bar above the keyboard, this app would be perfect! |
[2013-01-30] A Google User: This is good app Works well for text files. Great for simple note taking, and i am able to read my notes from a PC, and edit them and all is synced back to the app. Also such a nice clean interface. |
[2013-01-28] A Google User: Broken sync For some reason the Dropbox sync stopped working and I had to manually transcribe all my drafts so I wouldn't lose them |
[2013-01-24] A Google User: Corrupting files with Chinese text This use to work great. I liked it for the ease of typing notes on my computer and have it easily sync'ed to my phone. However, recently it started to corrupt ALL my Chinese texts. The file names containing Chinese unicode characters used to be messed up -- which is a known bug. But the contents were showing up correctly. However, recently, the contents of the text file are getting corrupted! :( I lost my data! Only managed to recover some files through Dropbox's versioning. |
[2013-01-23] A Google User: Good but missing discard feature It will be great if we have a discard button. |
[2013-01-21] A Google User: excellent except no folder sync this is perfect - nice and simple, no overly complicated features, but the one thing I wish I could do is categorize my notes into folders - that would earn 5+ stars as far as I'm concerned |
[2013-01-18] A Google User: Good enough except for one thing I think it would be so much easier and simpler if it didn't have a title box that needs to be filled in all the time, that is a pain to edit afterwards, that is annoying when it matches the title of other notes. I wish it would work more like Resophnotes for windows where the first few words of the note become the title of the note and the filename of the resulting text file. Faster simpler better. Other than that, the app works fine. Would gladly pay for a pro version if this small change was implemented. |
[2013-01-15] A Google User: Great app! I was on the lookout for a MarkDown editor app that supported DropBox syncing and let me specify the folder where notes are placed. Epistle does all that. It looks great, works well, and I have no complaints. The only thing holding me back about it is the inability to see sub-folders in DropBox (but then no other Android based DropBox syncing MarkDown editor does it either). Wish the developer adds support for sub-folders soon. |
[2013-01-09] A Google User: Good but needs improvement Good app. Much needed, well made and with Markdown. Lacks auto-sync for the fifth star. |
[2013-01-07] A Google User: Great app with a serious flaw Every now and then it will revert notes that have been changed in other locations. Not sure why. So far I believe I have caught the reverts, but I live in fear that I will miss something. I have to go into dropbox and look at the previous versions to get my data back. |
[2013-01-05] A Google User: Great dropbox text editor As this handles markdown it makes it ideal for note taking. Sync with dropbox means you get file history. Offline access is guaranteed, and as it is text orientated you know you are not chewing up diskspace. I'd like an undo for doh moments, and block tabbing in and out. |
[2012-12-31] A Google User: interface great app bur it has to be holo interfaced. |
[2012-12-30] A Google User: .md and word count Supporting .md files and having a word count feature would make this app perfect. I absolutely love the font it uses and the minimal fee to it. |
[2012-12-30] A Google User: Clean, beautiful | What it does, does it well I had almost given up on a "good" note app for Adnorid, but then I found Epistle. I am a bit paranoid about storing password in any app, that too of sth like Dropbox and that's the only thing that stopped me from giving 5 ***** which it actually deserves. Adding Simplenote sync will go a long way. Why not start charging and brush it up? |
[2012-12-24] A Google User: Great app! Very useful app. It has so much functionality, but keeps a clean interface. Also, the dropbox sync is a good feature. |
[2012-12-23] A Google User: Great Great app. Please add notes widget. |
[2012-12-22] A Google User: Great but no folder support :( |
[2012-12-21] A Google User: awesome when it comes to note editing and syncing, it's the best. i wish i could group notes with tags or in dropbox subfolders... any chance of that happening? |
[2012-12-11] A Google User: Good but broken The live preview isn't supported for 4.2 or doesn't work in the current build. Clean app no ads |
[2012-12-06] A Google User: Great notepad app Great note taking app. With the dropbox syncing I can add notes on my desktop and have them synced easily to my phone and kindle fire. Would not use any other note app. |
[2012-12-04] A Google User: The best app for notes with dropbox |
[2012-11-30] A Google User: Great app Because you never know when you need to remember something. It gets 5 Stars from me. Thank you for a great App. |
[2012-11-29] A Google User: Most Excellent! Does exactly what it claims and flawlessly syncs with Dropbox. I would like to see it sync automatically every 30 seconds or so, just because occasionally my tablet will crash and I will lose the note. Other than that it is excellent. Love it. |
[2012-11-28] A Google User: Very cool. Let's me write when the mood hits. |
[2012-11-28] A Google User: Great, but... it's missing a widget to display a specific notes on the home screen. I use simple widget on my Windows PC's that displays simple text file from my Dropbox. Would love to be able to do this with Epistle, so for now 4 stars :) |
[2012-11-27] A Google User: Great app Had to work out how to get around Dropbox 2-factor authentication, but when setup it's working just fine. |
[2012-11-27] A Google User: AMAZING! I've used it daily for over a year now. Couldn't live without it! I think this may very well be my most used (non Google) app on my phone. |
[2012-11-23] A Google User: Indispensable This is the first app I installed and I wouldn't want to be without it. Great job! |
[2012-11-23] A Google User: Notes are deleted when written offline Even if they seem to be saved. Could be a 5 star app but highly unreliable! |
[2012-11-20] A Google User: Simple and good, syncs to dropbox Kind of like iAWriter for the iPad. Good font, nice and clean, and syncs to Dropbox. |
[2012-11-20] A Google User: Link to different folder Nice little app. Only complaint is that it defaults to a folder named Epistle in Dropbox. If you would allow us to pick the folder in Dropbox then we could organize our folders the way we want. |
[2012-11-18] A Google User: Awesome On Android, supports Markdown and syncs to Dropbox - literally the exact set of features I went looking for. That said, I do have a feature request: let us choose the extension of the files created (or at least choose between .txt and .md/.markdown) |
[2012-11-17] A Google User: No .md support Great app but, as other reviewers have commented, this basic issue cripples the app for my use. Please add support for the .md extension. |
[2012-11-06] A Google User: The Perfect App ! Greatest app for lists, idea pad, notes, etc. EVER ! Loads fast, works perfectly, does everything you need a notepad to do. |
[2012-11-05] A Google User: Epistle Very simple and free. |
[2012-11-04] A Google User: Great but Where are the saved files? Other than the Dropbox one I mean. Sorry if I sound too dumb but I can't find it everywhere... Great app though, one of the best. The killer feature is the full screen mode. |
[2012-11-04] A Google User: A smart idea, but sorely abandonded I just wanted this, liteweight markup based note app using a shared / versioned backend to sync to. Was a bit hard to find on market, but a search for "markdown" revealed this goody ;) Problems I met during my long tenure with this app: - merge issues (old version of document overwrites updated version created on pc) - sync issues (new versions don't show up in time -- probably it's network/Dropbox issue?) - silently ignores documents with accents in title - would be good to support tacit standard markdown extensions like ~~strikethrough~~ - would be good to have undo or at least a way to cleanly abandon unsaved changes - developer is unresponsive |
[2012-11-01] A Google User: Epistle |
[2012-10-31] A Google User: Exactly what I wanted Great little app. The only thing missing for me is multiple folder support. |
[2012-10-31] A Google User: Great App, needs some minor polish This app works great and is nearly perfect, the other comparable apps are either missing major features (choosing which Dropbox folder to use) or have ads and are ugly. This app has most of the features I want. The couple things I'd like to see: - support for multiple or configurable file extensions - support for next directories. I'm giving five stars even though I REALLY think it should have these features because all the other markdown+dropbox+notes type applications I tried were fairly lame and this one is almost perfect. |
[2012-10-30] A Google User: Useful for notes This keeps my little notes synced via dropbox. I update via both multiple androids and pcs, by editing the files right in the dropbox folder I always have the latest version. I do change the settings to check for newer version on startup and every time a file is opened. |
[2012-10-30] A Google User: Superb This is a real beauty of a note taking app. Nice, clean and simple. I`ve got this syncing with dropbox, along with Resoph Notes on Windows and Simple Notes. Works perfectly. Most of the Simple Note syncing apps are either buggy or aren`t developed anymore. This really fills a huge gap in the market for anyone wanting to sync their PC & Mobile with Simple Notes. Thank you. One thing that would be great is the ability to set a different time display based on your timezone. Seeing m/d/y in the uk weird. |
[2012-10-25] A Google User: Why no folder support Folders are required |
[2012-10-21] A Google User: Glorious simplicity, missing key features I love this app. It has immaculate Dropbox sync and a super-clean appearance; for iOS users, this is as close as I've found to the feel of iA Writer. However, it lacks a couple of important features: there is no local file export or browser; no folder support in the notes list; and it would be great to have a plain text export. |
[2012-10-15] A Google User: Great App Almost perfect mix of simplicity and function. Tag/folder support would be nice. It should open .md extension as well. |
[2012-10-13] A Google User: loved it! but... really loved it! started to use it a lot. sync to Dropbox. then i realized large text file gets cut off. lost a lot of my notes. :( |
[2012-10-10] A Google User: best cloud notes |
[2012-10-09] A Google User: Great dropbox interaction. Perfect app if it allowed me to create sticky note widgets of different sizes on my home page. Otherwise, this is awesome! |
[2012-10-08] A Google User: So far so good. This is an easy to use note pad/text editor. It stores each note in a separate text file (.txt). For TapNote fans from the webOS world, this app can easily open, edit, and save your TapNote text files in DropBox! |
[2012-10-08] A Google User: Solid App One of my favorite apps. |
[2012-10-07] A Google User: Deleted Dropbox files I wanted to use this to sync with the Dropbox folder I use for is Writer for iPad, and at first it worked fine, but on two occasions it synced and the files created outside of Epistle didn't show up. I checked Dropbox and the files were gone. The app works fine otherwise, but this caused me a big problem. |
[2012-10-05] A Google User: Good but flawed Really nice editor. But not very useful until it can open non-. txt files from any folder including Dropbox. If it did this I would happily pay for it. |
[2012-10-03] A Google User: Works good for the text docs I'm working on for story notes. The ability to sync to a drop box folder is great. I create notes using enso writer on the iPad and can access them in epistle for further notation. As a note to the Dev - thanks for a great free tool. The ability to set your directory name even if it is two levels down was awesome as enso writer was a static location. This is a good solution if you don't want to be locked into something like evernote. |
[2012-09-30] A Google User: Good app Works as advertised! |
[2012-09-29] A Google User: Great! Works well as a simple note taking app, I usually use it to write down random thoughts and my daily gratitudes. I especially love its two features, full screen writing and markdown. |
[2012-09-27] A Google User: Very Nice I was looking for something like this from long time. Just wanted one more option Password Lock. it will be a nice feature in case of lost or stolen devices |
[2012-09-26] A Google User: It works... but text too small. I find the font size too small. It can be changed, with settings from 'Tiny' to 'Large'. But Large is still quite small, smaller than most newspapers. I can read it, but barely. It would be a strain to read a large document that small. |
[2012-09-24] A Google User: Clean & fast Great app - best functioning note app I've used yet. One small issue I have is that it can't read .rtf notes. I use nvALT on my laptop, which has the exact same philosophy as Epistle, but notes formatted in nvALT can't appear in Epistle. Still, brilliant app. |
[2012-09-23] A Google User: Great app but This is the best note taking app I have found. But the icon is horrible, looks so much like the NY times, a shame really. |
[2012-09-21] A Google User: Awesome... Finally... The app I was looking for, simple, clean, and I can sync notes between devices with dropbox. It can look a little better, maybe more customizations, it would be nice to put lines and make it look like a notepad, background color, etc. Anyway, so far, so good.. |
[2012-09-21] A Google User: Just works Nothing else to say really. Totally does the job it claims to do. |
[2012-09-21] A Google User: Best note taking app Dropbox sync and plain text make it easy to use and compatible with everything. Good font size lets you see more at once without being too small. You get to choose how it syncs. Simple and intuitive. |
[2012-09-20] A Google User: Great! Awesome app, for us Markdowners. It would be awesome if it could handle .md files directly. |
[2012-09-17] A Google User: Excellent App No-Ads, Low memory and FREE. Good app. Good Performance. If you know markdown language, no problem. Nothing more can be expected. |
[2012-09-15] A Google User: Nice editor w/markdown Very nice clean editor with good markdown integration. Only flaw is that on the Nexus 7 tablet, even the largest font setting is pretty darn small. |
[2012-09-15] A Google User: Simple Love the simplified note taking app |
[2012-09-14] A Google User: Great app I'd like the option to open files in other directories. Other than that I have no complains. |
[2012-09-07] A Google User: Awesome but... Love it, best I've found with the drop box sync, but baffled as to why it adds a space to every line ending when I sync... and curious as to the lack of a highly loved feature of other apps: invert, white text on black background... I recommend it based on it's sync. But the over-simplicity is somehow baffling. You can still be feature-rich and simple I think. But update those line endings and add a touch of jelly bean holo ui. And it would be 5 stars from me. |
[2012-09-05] A Google User: Great app, but discontinued I love this app, the Markdown support and Dropbox integration has made this mi to-go app for notes. Sadly, it has been a lot of time since it has been updated... |
[2012-09-04] A Google User: Amazing... Free and no Ad's. Looks beautiful on ics galaxy nexus. |
[2012-09-02] A Google User: Used constantly. |
[2012-08-31] A Google User: Needs updated Was my fave but doesn't support the new dropbox two-factor authentication. So it is worthless to me now... |
[2012-08-29] A Google User: Could be improved I have problems with the size og text On My Nexus 7.. |
[2012-08-27] A Google User: Poor view ability for text Low contrast. Dark gray text with light gray background makes for very poor viewing. Poor visibility in many situations. Needs better themes or user adjustable colors. Could be great! Un-installed instead. |
[2012-08-27] A Google User: Nice app but be careful! Just lost all my offline changes after syncing. It decided that the prior Dropbox state needed to overwrite the data changes on my phone! I need to return to my quest to find a simple note app that syncs with my various devices and PCs and either Dropbox or Google Docs. |
[2012-08-24] A Google User: Simple and Elegant A very simple markdown editor with Dropbox sync built-in. Just lovely. |
[2012-08-23] A Google User: Excellent! Simple but elegant text editor. Markdown support seals the deal. Please add a night (dark) mode. |
[2012-08-20] A Google User: Simple and easy And beautiful. Man this app looks good. 5 stars if I could create a folder structure of notes. |
[2012-08-20] A Google User: Awesome Awesome app |
[2012-08-16] A Google User: Warty !!! Naprawde warto. lekki programik do notatek, ktory synchronizuje sie z dropboxem. osobiscie nie potrzebuje niczego wiecej. |
[2012-08-15] A Google User: Great app! I use this to sync simple text notes and reminders from my phone to my computer, and I can edit and view them on Dropbox! |
[2012-08-13] A Google User: great in principle but is it still being developed? looks ugly on tablet... |
[2012-08-13] A Google User: Great but would be perfect if not limited to .txt Since I write my notes in Markdown and use a text editor on my Mac, I'd rather use .md or .mkd as extension for my notes. However, when I create a .md note on my Mac, it is not synced :( |
[2012-08-12] A Google User: Terrific for notes Works perfect on Nexus 7 (JB) and Droid X (CM7 & CM9.) Simple and reliable. Scheduled auto sync would be nice but on at the expense of dependability. Also for me the "+" button is too close to the manual "sync" button in the note list. |
[2012-08-11] A Google User: It works I've used Epistle for over a year now, and it's a must-have app. The dead-simple interface and Dropbox integration make this easy to use for lists, jotting down ideas, and much more. |
[2012-08-09] A Google User: great app! agreed, this is my very favourite text app on android. If only we could work with sub-folders however - that would totally make it a 5 star review |
[2012-08-04] A Google User: Perfect Beautifully simple. Elegant interface. Just the right amount of features. Mercifully free of adds. Needs nothing added or taken away |
[2012-07-22] A Google User: Highly recommended! Perfect note taking app! I use this to sync notes across my phone, tablet, and laptop. Exactly what I was looking for. |
[2012-07-21] A Google User: Decent apps It will be even better if there is a word count feature. |
[2012-07-15] A Google User: Great app. Has everything expected from a note app, without the intrusive ads like other competitors. 5 stars. |
[2012-07-11] A Google User: Should not ask for your Dropbox password! Dropbox has an API that allows applications to have limited access to a single folder in your Dropbox. This app wants your password, which could give the developers complete control of your account. |
[2012-06-28] A Google User: lousy for Markdown. no support for fast access to Markdown symbols like [ ] which makes it slow and hard to use. Is there seriously no good Markdown editor for Android? |
[2012-06-21] A Google User: No darker theme and no RTF support Used NV and NValt on Mac and all of my notes are in RTF. I was disappointed to see that Epistle cannot read RTF and saves only as TXT. Back to Flick Note. |
