Animals are a major group of multicellular, eukaryotic organisms of the kingdom Animalia or Metazoa. Their body plan eventually becomes fixed as they develop, although some undergo a process of metamorphosis later on in their life. Most animals are motile, meaning they can move spontaneously and independently. All animals are also heterotrophs, meaning they must ingest other organisms or their products for sustenance.

Most known animal phyla appeared in the fossil record as marine species during the Cambrian explosion, about 542 million years ago.

An abstract is a brief summary of a research article, thesis, review, conference proceeding or any in-depth analysis of a particular subject or discipline, and is often used to help the reader quickly ascertain the paper's purpose. When used, an abstract always appears at the beginning of a manuscript, acting as the point-of-entry for any given scientific paper or patent application. Abstracting and indexing services for various academic disciplines are aimed at compiling a body of literature for that particular subject.

The terms précis or synopsis are used in some publications to refer to the same thing that other publications might call an "abstract". In management reports, an executive summary usually contains more information (and often more sensitive information) than the abstract does.

Art Abstrait :
Dans les arts plastiques, l'art abstrait est un « langage visuel » né au xx ième siècle. Il n'essaie pas de représenter « les apparences visibles du monde extérieur», mais tente de donner une contraction du réel ou encore d'en souligner les « déchirures ». L'art abstrait peut se passer de modèle et s'affranchit de la fidélité à la réalité visuelle et ainsi des créations plastiques mimétiques. Il ne représente pas des sujets ou des objets du monde naturel, réel ou imaginaire, mais seulement des formes et des couleurs pour elles-mêmes.

Photojournalisme :
Dès son apparition, l’image photographique a tout de suite séduit le monde de la presse et de l’information par son apparente objectivité. Impossible à imprimer en même temps que le texte, elle est longtemps reproduite en gravure, et sert d’illustration à l’écrit. L'image reste longtemps en décalage par rapport à l’événement qu’elle relate à cause du délai important entre la prise de vue et sa publication.
La photographie garde le statut d’image illustrative jusqu’en 1890,  date à partir de laquelle la presse illustrée connaît un développement mondial. La société de la fin du xixe siècle a soif de « nouvelles ». « Avec la photographie une fenêtre s’ouvre sur le monde »

Effets spéciaux :
Popularisés par les films fantastiques de science-fiction et de catastrophe, les effets spéciaux font appel à différents procédés liés à l’image et au son : synthèse d'image 3D, traitement numérique, maquettes, animation image par image, ralenti et accéléré, maquillage, bruitage, etc. Ils peuvent être réalisés pendant le tournage ou après (en postproduction), ou par la combinaison des deux.
Les cinéastes utilisent les effets spéciaux pour des besoins divers :
* Pour reproduire une atmosphère (pluie, chute de neige, brume, etc.)
* Pour créer une réalité visuelle à partir d’éléments imaginaires (monstres, extra-terrestres, soucoupes volantes, univers cosmique, etc.)
* Pour préserver l'intégrité des acteurs ou des décors (explosions, accidents, violences, catastrophe naturelle, scène d'action, etc...)
