The Independent (v. 3.1.2.1) Разработано FreeRange |
This is the free official App for users who take their news seriously - from The Independent and Independent on Sunday, titles that are internationally renowned for the standard of their analysis.
Read articles and view the photographs on the go. The App has been created so you can continue reading offline, even when your mobile signal is intermittent or not available.
Downloading the 150-plus stories that the Independent publishes on the App every day takes about a minute on a Wi-Fi connection and a few minutes on a normal mobile connection. Stories can be read whilst you are downloading.

[2011-09-05] Henry: Incomplete features Reading an article in one section doesn't mark as read elsewhere, download all feature doesn't work so no good on commute |
[2011-09-03] deans: Read the Indie more with this app than I do their website... just a shame its ugly |
[2011-08-30] Joe: The app and content are perfectly ok and functional. They just miss any wow factor like the times, BBC or pulse. |
[2011-08-21] Simon: I like the independent. Not over keen on this all, the ads are miles to big. I would pay for an ad free version. Or a subscription with no ads. |
[2011-08-18] tristan: When working looks good, however it crashes when starting more often than not. |
[2011-08-13] G: Will not run, shows synch icon when started, then errors with '! No connection. Unable to create an account. Please try later.' WITH wi-fi on. LG P500 |
[2011-08-12] Carl: This app would be perfect if it wasn't for the ads taking up so much if the screen, need paid for version ! |
[2011-08-10] josswinn: Download all option does nothing on Galaxy S2 v2.3.3 |
[2011-08-09] Elizabeth: I hate adds. Especially moving ones. Very happy to pay for an ad-free version. C'mon, indie, you've let them ruin an otherwise first-class app. |
[2011-07-22] lefty: Very nicely presented. |
[2011-07-21] andrewjlockley: Runs on handmark like the evening standard. Not as nice as BBC viewer but tolerable. Easier to use than guardian. |
[2011-07-20] oldgoat: well, its a start.... Nice to be able to get to the Indy headlines, as an alternative to the BBC ones, but..... First request - a paid for copy without the ads. Second, loose that background. Looks awful, and just a bit old - the sort of rubbish that was trendy about 20 years ago. |
[2011-07-15] Ian: Pretty useless, why use Handmark? Not very good. Can't read articles as background for the text area is black and large buttons for share and save waste valuable space at the bottom. |
[2011-07-07] Matt: Looks promising. But not downloading for offline reading. Htc desire. |
[2011-07-05] Richard: Dev needs to release a paid for, ad-free version. Ads takes up line at bottom of small screens (HTC Wildfire) that could be used for another news item |
[2011-06-19] Mikey: Works remarkably well Smooth in use, easy to navigate. Quick download (working well for me on SGS). Thank you. |
[2011-06-19] alex: A well laid out app with a lot of good content. However, as others have pointed out, the "download all" doesn't work, very annoying. Samsung Galaxy S |
[2011-06-12] Ibrahim: The best news paper! Excellent Application, had no trouble with it at all. I have the HTC incredible S |
[2011-06-10] Bilal: Download all does not work, so this is useless for the tube. |
[2011-06-04] Jameswgm: Not working on latest CM7 build, written content replaced with blank space. Before ok, interface could be improved. Content was very good. |
[2011-05-29] Troy: Good app but download all feature doesn't work. Desire HD |
[2011-05-27] Stephen: Alright It's an okay App. It could really do with an offline mode like it's iPhone version. |
[2011-05-25] Ian: I like the design of the interface it gives a feeling of moving through paper. The ghastly flickering add at the bottom really annoys me. |
[2011-05-22] Wojtek: Works great on desire. |
[2011-05-20] Chris: Very well thought out little app,unobtrusive ads,good interface.HTC DHD |
[2011-05-11] Stephen: Excellent for XOOM If you gotta Motorola XOOM then this app is Brilliant! |
[2011-05-03] Matthew: Good app A good app. Annoyingly it seems to be based on the Handmark template but at least it doesn't crash like other Handmark apps. And content itself can't really be faulted. |
[2011-05-01] Paul: Really fiddly interface. |
[2011-04-27] Steven: really terrible UI. a bit of an embarrassment to be seen using, I'd say. |
[2011-04-25] MrHarm: Handmark template just doesn't cut it |
[2011-04-23] jason: Pity. Constantly forces close. Uninstalling. Galaxy s. |
[2011-04-22] Andrew: Amazing, at last, this will quickly become my most used app. Very smooth, quick, user friendly, and brilliant journalism too. |
[2011-04-19] Peter: Brilliant app given the news content I subscribe to the printed Independent newspaper so I am pleased I can keep in touch by reviewing Indy news stories and articles when away from home on my tablet. Off-line reading is particularly useful. |
[2011-04-18] Soumaya: Good app, better than other news apps, very informative! |
[2011-04-07] Viral: Doesn't look like most other news apps but is reliable and offline reading is a nice touch. |
[2011-04-04] dcaunt: Good content but UI could use a little work. |
[2011-04-04] Wandai: Hard! |
[2011-04-04] mkr: Strange UI choices, but good to have the content on Android. |
[2011-04-03] Ewa: A brilliant and free app from Indy. The background makes the text easy to read and navigation is dead easy. Love it! |
[2011-03-30] Taza: Love the Indy, love the app. Simpler, clearer, quicker than w/s. Works fine. 5 stars if it had the crossword. HTC Desire. |
[2011-03-29] Stephen: Good but needs the odd tweak Been using the Independent app for a certain other mobile platform for a while so downloaded this as soon as I saw it. Good except for the odd niggle. The description mentions the off-line feature but not how to use it. I can see an option to download favourites but not how to create favourites in the first place. Needs optimising for low res screens (Wildfire). Ads and buttons take up disproportionate space. I accept the need for ads but couldn't the huge 'share' and 'save' buttons be buried in a menu? |
[2011-03-11] Dan: Very nice indeed; saves me having to go through articles at work - now I can have a scan on the bus :-) |
[2011-03-09] Leo: Absolutely excellent. Great content & easy to use. |
[2011-03-09] Jack: Free I like it. But then I work for The Independent, so I would say that. |
