AT5 Nieuws is ontwikkeld door Get the App! voor AT5 in het kader van Apps for Amsterdam. AT5 Nieuws maakt gebruik van online data die AT5 beschikbaar stelt door middel van een webservice. In het menu van de app zijn de rubrieken van het nieuws te vinden. Ook bevindt zich daar de menu optie Tip.
Door een Tip met een op je device geschoten foto op te sturen naar AT5 is het mogelijk je eigen nieuws te maken en in de rubriek Gespot te komen. Voor het online opsturen van een Tip maakt de app eveneens gebruik van een webservice van AT5.
