Top questions from the FAQ:
Q:The Google Reader unread count doesn't match the NewsRob unread count
A:NewsRob only shows the unread count of the articles that it fetched and are stored locally now. You can set the number of articles you want to see locally using Settings/Local Cache/Reading List. Also relevant is Settings/Sync/Sync Type. If you have "Unread Only" there then NewsRob will try during each sync to remove articles locally that you read and fill them up with unread articles from your Google Reader account.
Q:Not all of the feeds in Google Reader show up on NewsRob. Why's that?
A: NewsRob will only show the feeds for which there are currently articles on your phone.
If you have 300 feeds on Google Reader, but the most recent 500 articles, if that is what you set capacity-setting to, only are in 90 feeds, then you will only see 90 feeds. When new articles arrive that are in other feeds, those feeds will be displayed then.
Also NewsRob will only show the feeds that match the current selection. That means if you look at the label "android" it will only show you the feeds that are below the "android" label. Additionally if you set NewsRob to "hide read articles" you will only see feeds with unread articles.

[2013-03-28] A Google User: The best! |
[2013-03-24] A Google User: Doesn't Work For Read Articles This reader starts out only listing unread feeds and articles. It's annoying since this isn't how Google Reader functions by default. There is an option to change it to list all articles, but it doesn't work. There's a flaw where the read feeds and articles from the subscriptions aren't displayed. This app also has an incredibly outdated interface with a reappearing tip due to a bug. Judging from the other reviews, it looks like this app was left to rot. I guess you shouldn't bother installing it. |
[2013-03-24] A Google User: Great but... Will this be maintained after Google shuts down reader? |
[2013-03-22] A Google User: Developer attention needed It looks like the developer has abandoned this project. Do not purchase. It's been almost a year since the latest update, and some major bugs remain. |
[2013-03-21] A Google User: Love it Been using this for 4 months and it gets the job done right! Now maybe a dash clock extension ... |
[2013-03-19] A Google User: The future? Mr Kamp, If you are reading this, please inform us on the future of NewsRob when google reader is no more. Really think that NewsRob is the best. And really hope to stay with it even without Google Reader |
[2013-03-19] A Google User: My favourite RSS feed reader Probably my most used app. It's simplicity is great. I do have some issues with embedded YouTube videos, which I would like to see fixed. Other than that, an easy to use and fluid app. |
[2013-03-17] A Google User: Best out there. This is the best rss reader out there. I've been using this since I turned to the Android ecosystem. Really hope still can use it after Google Reader shuts down. |
[2013-03-17] A Google User: Best app for offline reading So, I mostly use RSS for reading 9gag, memebase and dealextreme updates, so basically pictures sync is important for me. Also I always sync on wifi in order to read offline, so the refreshing of content and a functional download of pictures for offline reading is all I expect from an app like this. Newsrob is the first app to actually do this job. Many other apps would always have missing pics or take forever to donwload just a few posts. I really hope the devs will make something about Google Reader being shut =/ |
[2013-03-17] A Google User: My #1 android app This is by far the most used app in all of my Android devices, great to keep track of read items and local caching does wonders for offline reading. I hope the developer can come up with a replacement source for google reader, eventually with support for privately-hosted RSS aggregators like tt-rss. |
[2013-03-16] A Google User: Best reader on the market ! Offline mode with image download, fast download, nice interface, all I ever dreamed of ! I've been using it for almost 2 years now, and I would never swap ! Is there any plan to sync with a new service, now that Google Reader is going down ? |
[2013-03-16] A Google User: Top quality app Have used it every day since I first got an Android. Will miss this app when google reader shuts down :( |
[2013-03-15] A Google User: Great I'm going to miss you, NewsRob. Thanks for two and a half years of being one of my most-used apps. |
[2013-03-14] A Google User: WHYYYYYY?! Without Newsrob and Google Reader, I'll be at a loss. Easily the best way to read RSS feeds. Why, Google? WHYYYYY? |
[2013-03-14] A Google User: Most used app will be missed All RSS feeds I read are read through this app. I have probably spent more time with this app than any other app on the android platform. Now Google Reader is going away. RSS will not be the same without Google and Newsrob. I am shocked and disappointed. Thank you for creating this app. I will miss it dearly. |
[2013-03-14] A Google User: Full article download not just headers or summary Anyone know how to get news rob to download full articles for offline reading. When I go into some articles I still need to switch to Web mode to see the full article.Ive already set it in Newsrob but still get only article summaries. Beyondpod does this well. The developer doesn't have a contact email on app page as well. |
[2013-03-14] A Google User: Google Reader dead Will Newsrob now support other rss feeds since Google Reader is shutting down? |
[2013-03-14] A Google User: Save Google Reader!!! |
[2013-03-14] A Google User: Love this app, but what now? This is a great way to connect to my Google Reader account. But, with GReader closing in July this year, are newsrob going to link with Feedly, NewsBlur or one of the other rss aggregators? I really hope I can keep getting all my feed updates through newsrob though! |
[2013-03-14] A Google User: Oumbärlig. Does NewsRob work with other sources than Google Reader? |
[2013-03-14] A Google User: What now? Anything else simple, or is there life in this one yet after Google reader dies? |
[2013-03-14] A Google User: Hope this outlives Google Reader Great app. I hope the dev finds a way for it to thrive after Google pull the plug on Reader. |
[2013-03-14] A Google User: Alternatives to Google Reader? We need that |
[2013-03-13] A Google User: Awesome software But... Google reader will be shut down on 1st of July. What we going to do with this? Such a terrible news. This awesome app I use every day for several hours, and it is just unbeatable! |
[2013-03-10] A Google User: Keeps me up to date! I use it every 2 years when I am shopping for a new smartphone. Keeps me in the know! Only wish all buttons weren't in top tight corner; always hitting wrong one. |
[2013-03-02] A Google User: Great app All it lacks is a dark theme. |
[2013-02-28] A Google User: Best reader I've found Interface is simple but not clunky or ugly. You can display the webpage within Newsrob when the RSS version is just a summary of the article, rather than having to fire up a browser. Very quick to load content. Great app, all in all. |
[2013-02-13] A Google User: Very good Since switching from iPhone, I tried several readers and this one is the best. It just works, just as intended. |
[2013-02-06] A Google User: Not work |
[2013-02-04] A Google User: It sync while I'm reading an article halfway, Causing the article to be erase from the cache, and i haven't finish reading... |
[2013-01-25] A Google User: Better than most, worse than some. The interface looks crappy on a tablet, sorry. I'd prefer it if it automatically showed me all my feeds that weren't in a folder, and if it didn't just show the unread ones. But if NewsRob was the only RSS reader around, I'd use it. |
[2013-01-21] A Google User: Best rss reader for me Free add, simple and easy to use.. |
[2013-01-19] A Google User: Not supported No updates |
[2013-01-16] A Google User: good but I have an idea for improvement 3 stars will give 5 once improved. Improvement idea: I night mode/Dark theme. I really need a darker mode so i don't kill my eyes when i make up in the morning. I suggest you replace the white background color with a black or really dark grey. Make the article title text white and make the light gray subtext also white or a very bright gray. Should be easy. Good app but needs improvement. |
[2013-01-16] A Google User: Old looking. But nice. I love the custom notifications!! |
[2013-01-16] A Google User: smooth as silk works fantastic the only thing is that it cant store the images for offline use.... still the speed is very good with web view.. good to go app...!! |
[2013-01-08] A Google User: ALMOST EVERYTHING The only thing NewsRob is lacking is the ability to prioritize feeds so the latest articles are always pulled in. The lower volume, but more important feeds get crowded out by higher volume feeds. Also, a design update would be nice, but as it wouldn't impact usability I don't expect it or need it. |
[2013-01-07] A Google User: Must have Its always the first I install on new phones |
[2013-01-02] A Google User: Great reader Easy to use and synchronizes with Google Reader account |
[2013-01-01] A Google User: Reliable More reliable than most news readers for downloading offline content. Could use a few minor improvements like remembering your place when switching apps. |
[2013-01-01] A Google User: Control over storage location Please provide more control over storage location. I have a small internal sd and a large external one |
[2012-12-30] A Google User: Love it Great rss reader. I use it constantly so I don't end up with 200 items when finally sit down at a computer. |
[2012-12-28] A Google User: Fast and good for large feeds Works well on large backlogs of unread items. syncs well with Google reader. |
[2012-12-28] A Google User: Pro version was my first paid app Just what I needed for the hundreds of blogs I follow |
[2012-12-25] A Google User: Excellent, but could be better Brilliant app, works perfectly, but reading in the dark is hard on the eyes, it really needs a white on black theme. Please. |
[2012-12-25] A Google User: Best reader in my opinion Best Android newsreader I've used so far, even better than gReader. The 2 way sync is extremely accurate with my Google Reader feeds. |
[2012-12-21] A Google User: Better choices Just not a decent news reader compared to others. Sorry. |
[2012-12-11] A Google User: Old and tired Looking really tired and old fashioned now. Functional but ugly. Switched to JustReader which has the same functionality but doesn't look quite so bad. |
[2012-12-09] A Google User: Get rid of menu button on bottom! Great app, just get rid of that menu button in the bottom! |
[2012-12-06] A Google User: Used to live it but the UI is dated I used to use this app all the time, but the UI feels very dated and navigating between articles isn't that great. |
[2012-12-03] A Google User: Suggest a auto flip function Suggest a timed flip as playback across the news |
[2012-11-30] A Google User: Great but looks abandoned It's a great app, works great, but I put 3 stars because of the lack of updates / new features. Author hasn't made any major upgrade for more than a year. He promised tablet interface, and that was a year ago and it's not going to happen any time soon (according to developer) |
[2012-11-27] A Google User: 5* for black background & smaller size |
[2012-11-21] A Google User: Bad UI Can't manage/sort my feeds? Why all feed names in small case? |
[2012-11-16] A Google User: slow scroll scrolls slow |
[2012-11-14] A Google User: Best rss reader out there Reader works great and there are tons of useful options. This is the best reader i've found. |
[2012-11-09] A Google User: Galaxy nexus Works well, no problems. |
[2012-11-08] A Google User: Needs update Needs update to ics. This has been way too stale. |
[2012-11-08] A Google User: Awesome |
[2012-11-08] A Google User: Great Reader App I really love this app, while there are a few small issues the offline reading has been a blessing for my tube trips. |
[2012-10-26] A Google User: Horizontal mess I'm now using NewsRob, coming from EasyRSS. The thing that I really really HATE about NewsRob is the horizontal scroll at the Article view. Why can't you fix this!? I know HTML framing can be itchy sometimes but EasyRSS has done it... If only EasyRSS had article preview... |
[2012-10-14] A Google User: Best RSS app By a mile |
[2012-10-13] A Google User: Offline option is great The fact that we can view the articles offline is the killer feature. |
[2012-10-10] A Google User: Great app! I don't use any other feed readers. Has a ton of options to customize your feed, lets you prefetch content. I'm content with the free version but the pay version is starting to look appealing. |
[2012-10-08] A Google User: Great app. The only app on the market that does what I need. Choose a google folder to sync and ingore the rest. There are nicer UIs out there but I have too many feeds to sync everything. |
[2012-09-30] A Google User: Tried the rest.. But came back. gReader offline mode is crap, most other readers don't have an offline mode. Newsrob is perfect in offline mode. |
[2012-09-29] A Google User: Does nothing better than Google reader It works fine, but doesn't work any better the Google's own reader. |
[2012-09-27] A Google User: Great offline mode A search feature would be useful. |
[2012-09-26] A Google User: Nice I am used this app. It is nice |
[2012-09-13] A Google User: Limitation on number of feeds I am a RSS junkie. I have a tons of feeds and I noticed that this app doesn't get all of them. Contacting author is very difficult. The support forum doesn't look that useful. If you have a few feeds, it will do the job pretty food. Not great for me, featurewise I am happy not with the number of feeds it accepts. |
[2012-09-10] A Google User: Let's update the look? To old and ugly. And no swiping? |
[2012-09-10] A Google User: Good, but... I bought this app and used it for a long time... until I learned about Pulse. Now I've been using Pulse exclusively for about 6 months and haven't looked back. Oh well. Pulse just has a few more bells and whistles, plus it's got a nicer interface, while still supporting offline mode. |
[2012-09-07] A Google User: Great reading. Still offers the best article reading experience in my opinion. But has fallen behind somewhat in features versus other readers. |
[2012-09-06] A Google User: More features please! Does a honest job at retrieving RSS feeds but doesn't download more than the standard summary. I expect my reader to download the full article with pictures so I don't have to click and wait, provided I'm not offline... Swapped for EasyRSS which does all this and more. |
[2012-09-04] A Google User: Widget update needed. The widget still looks out of place on the ICS/Jelly Bean launcher, 8 months later. The app still works for me, but I'd love to have a beautiful home screen again. |
[2012-09-03] A Google User: No podcast support. |
[2012-08-30] A Google User: very good don't need any "pro" features, but buying "pro" now just to appreciate the development... |
[2012-08-29] A Google User: Quick and easy Perfect for reading rss feeds on my phone. Easy and painless. |
[2012-08-28] A Google User: near perfect app I thought that offline support wasn't complete with web page download - changing sync option keeps previous sync method for articles already synced but new article will be synced according to current setting. Generally quite perfect on transformer prime. |
[2012-08-25] A Google User: OK on xoom Font size is unreadable |
[2012-08-18] A Google User: Not great user interface Overall it looks slick but it has serious UI shortcomings. First problem, to navigate you have to click to show the arrows and then click to move. If you're not using a swipe, you're not doing it right. Second, clicking links keeps you in the app but it's not as nice as a regular browser. Double tapping does not some in the text as you would expect |
[2012-08-18] A Google User: Integration of Social Media Please give us integration of (at least) Twitter and Google+. If I read a story I like, I would like to be able to tweet it. I know I can use the "Share" feature of NewsRob, but that only pastes the url to Twitter. I would like it to be formatted like: "article heading - shortened url". Do that, and this will become a 5star app. |
[2012-08-13] A Google User: Good robust app Used this for long time but needs a ui refresh now, as starting to look old |
[2012-08-09] A Google User: Always "updating" Eating up battery. Uninstalling for now. |
[2012-08-07] A Google User: Good but drains my battery. Galaxy s |
[2012-08-07] A Google User: Does not work independently of Google Reader Title lead me to believe this is an RSS reader, but it does not function in that capacity--it is purely a Google Reader client. |
[2012-08-05] A Google User: Absolutely the best available, no question, although more interface customisation (like fonts) would be appreciated. |
[2012-08-04] A Google User: No dark theme Too bad... |
[2012-07-31] A Google User: Really great. It can fetch the full website instead of just the feed if you want. One of my favorite Android apps. |
[2012-07-31] A Google User: Excelente Avoid google reader delays when opening news thanks to local catching |
[2012-07-29] A Google User: Javascript error Started getting the error message when switching to web mode after last update. My browser is correct. I believe the error is from Newsrob |
[2012-07-28] A Google User: The Best Google Reader App This is hands down the best app for reading Google Reader. I use it for my podcast for collecting the news. Just just star whatever is of interest. |
[2012-07-26] A Google User: Excellent Love the offline cache. Works great all round - simple and powerful |
[2012-07-21] A Google User: No workie Picks up only some of my subscribed feeds. And then only about 2 articles per feed. Winner. |
[2012-07-18] A Google User: Reliable, well organized Easy to use. |
[2012-07-15] A Google User: Good but needs more customizations Used it every day for 2 years! Had to find out there are other applications with more options. Would give it 5 stars if more options to customize on feed level e.g. instapaper settings on single feed. |
[2012-07-11] A Google User: best google reader app been using it for 2 years, great great app. great gesture support. would like to see an option for no synching while app is open since having it update while you're reading headlines can get 'jumpy' |
[2012-07-09] A Google User: Excellent with adjustments To make this work best for offline reading, make sure to check the option to download simplified web pages and also change it to readability. Then under view options, change the view to 'web'. These are the best options to let you read things where you don't have a data connection (eg NYC subway). I still use the Google Reader official app to get my full feeds however. |
[2012-06-29] A Google User: Previous review contained typo Sorry - this app would only pick up 2 of my 11 subscribed feeds. Galaxy Tab 7.7 running Honeycomb. |
[2012-06-27] A Google User: Works perfectly for me Works perfectly for me, no issues |
