Headset Button Controller (v. 6.6) Разработано Christoph Kober |
Turn the button on a wired headset into a remote control for your music player - and much more!
Headset Button Controller is very configurable, allowing you to play music, change tracks, adjust volume, answer phone calls, start Voice Command and many other things, just by clicking the button on your headset.
Headset Button Controller is shipped with a powerful default configuration, but you can change almost every action performed. Once you have configured it with your preferences, it runs in the background using almost no CPU. It has been tested with a wide variety of different Android devices and music apps and works with both single-button headsets, and Android-specific 3-button headsets.
<b>Default configuration</b> for single-button headsets (center button for 3-button headsets):
* Single press: play / pause (+ answer call / end call)
* Double press: next track (+ decline call / mute microphone)
* Triple press: previous track
* Quadruple press: previous track (2x)
* Long press: Volume control [2]
* Press and hold: Fast forward [3]
* Double press and hold: Rewind [3]
* Triple press and hold: disabled
<b>All of the above options are configurable</b> to any of the following:
* Stop
* Play / pause
* Next track
* Previous track
* Previous track (2x)
* Mute / unmute
* Voice command
* Voice search
* Redial last number
* Say current time (Text-To-Speech required)
* Launch app
* Launch shortcut
* Tasker task [1]
* Switch profile
Additionally the long press options are configurable to any of the following:
* Volume control [2]
* Rewind [3]
* Fast forward [3]
With a 3-button headset, volume control is also configurable with the left and right headset buttons.
[1] Requires the app 'Tasker'
[2] While the button is held down, the volume is initially reset to the minimum limit (see below) and then raised until the button is released
[3] Not every music player app supports rewind / fast forward
<b>Music app selection</b>
Headset Button Controller controls the currently running music app. You are also able to explicitly specify which installed music app you want to control.
<b>Volume control features</b>
Headset Button Controller remembers the music volume when the headphone is unplugged and can restore it when the headphone is plugged in again.
* Min volume limit: Start volume level of the 'volume control' command
* Max volume limit: Ensures that the headset music volume never exceeds this limit
<b>Call features</b>
You are also able to control calls with the headset button:
* answer call / end call on single press (configurable)
* decline call / mute microphone on double press (configurable)
* adjust volume during a call (see volume control)
* announce caller name (Text-To-Speech required)
You can also configure Headset Button Controller to automatically answer an incoming call after a configurable delay.
<b>Headset plug in / out</b>
You can configure an action to be performed when the headset gets plugged in / out.
<b>Profiles</b>
You can create different 'configuration profiles' which you can switch between. Add a widget or a shortcut to your home screen to easily change your profile. It is also possible to switch profile from the 'Tasker' or 'Locale' app (Locale plug-in). All settings can be backed up on SD card.
===============
This is the full version of Headset Button Controller. To check if this app works with your phone / music player correctly, we suggest you first install the trial version of this app before buying.

[2013-01-29] A Google User: Fixed an annoying problem Just what I needed. I have headphones with a control button. Google Music worked great until I installed SuperHexagon. It came with sound files. Instead of playing music, I get "end of game", "triangle", and laser sounds looping endlessly. I had to go back to Google Music every time I want to play music, then kill Apollo. Bonus, I can force Google Music, get audible feedback, and customize the clicks. |
[2013-01-23] A Google User: Fantastic workaround for volume control on JB Works great with my S4A II headphones and allows me to control volume with them (something that got broken with the Klipsch app when google moved to ICS). This allows for volume control via 4 clicks on the remote. Google still overrides long clicks, so even those appear in the menu as shown, if you are on JB (and probably ICS) you won't be able to map them. Very pleased to be able to control volume via the headset remote. |
[2013-01-22] A Google User: Worked great until... ...the last update, now using a lot more battery for some reason. |
[2013-01-19] A Google User: Thank you! Finally, a way to get these controls without having to flash a ROM... Love |
[2013-01-19] A Google User: :)) Totally worth $3.00 best and easy to use :))))) |
[2013-01-16] A Google User: works!!! Edit review on bottom If you cannot control with screen off just hold down for the time to be said and then use as normal. Outside that, perfect! Galaxy S2 —-------------- Don't know what happened. This app used to work flawlessly. Now, out of 10 tries 6 may work. Update to jb begsn issues. Downgrade to gb still not working well, shame. |
[2013-01-09] A Google User: Works great Works great |
[2013-01-06] A Google User: htc one x, Done! The dummy in the call history works flawless, you made it; there your five stars. THANK YOU. |
[2013-01-06] A Google User: Works, and provides great options Had a problem with it on HTC/Sense/JellyBean but author (creatively) fixed it. I've got it working on different headsets with 1 and 3 buttons. Does what's needed and provides options like having the time told to you, or a volume function that puts the volume down and gradually brings it up until you click again. Highly functional, fairly easy to customize, and it works. Great stuff. Thank you Christoph! |
[2013-01-05] A Google User: Great! Great! Works as advertised on HTC DNA. I ride motorcycles a lot and this app let's me control the music without having to look at phone! |
[2013-01-05] A Google User: System Volume Issues Since installing application, I have periodically exerienced issues with system volume. After extended operation, system volume on notifications including ringer is 50% of what it normally is. The volume indicator is at 100% at the time of issue. Issue is solved with reboot of phone. |
[2013-01-03] A Google User: Great Everything now works great. Developer helped me with getting the previous button working the way I wanted it to. Button clicks respond right on. I replaced the klipsch control app with this one since klipsch is way too slow in updating their volume function. |
[2012-12-28] A Google User: Perfect Headset App Bottom line if you're looking for a app to take control over your music, this is the one to get. Extremely customizable, smooth, not a battery drainer, and even has a simple mode for less experienced users! BUY THIS APP! He's practically giving it away. And if you ever do find a bug the dev always replied within 1-2 days :) must have for active headset users!! |
[2012-12-27] A Google User: Awesome. Works perfectly, even saved my settings from when i had the trial! |
[2012-12-21] A Google User: Volume control I can't get the volume control to work on my nexus with cyanogenmod 10. It worked just fine on my Droid bionic stock. |
[2012-12-20] A Google User: Buggy My phone just got the jellybean update, and now only the centre button (Klipsch s4a I only has 1 button) single-click works properly. All other types of click - which I set myself - both redials the last number and launch Google Now at the same time. I set the clicks and have debugging enabled, i can see very clearly that it is not behaving as it should be. I'll rate it again if I can fix this, but it's a major hassle. |
[2012-12-19] A Google User: Works Great Works great with my Klpish X10i earbuds on a Nexus 4. The only issue is that it disables the lock screen music widget. That can't be helped since Android assumes the app that has control of the headphones is the music player and Android makes it near impossible to get information on the current playing track. |
[2012-12-16] A Google User: +1,... Long press issues. Great simple app! Long press combinations always bring up the G-Now voice search on Jelly Bean |
[2012-12-13] A Google User: The first app I purchased Coming from an iPhone, I was initially frustrated that the headset button behavior was inconsistent between apps. For example, natively, the android Spotify app doesn't fast forward to the next song when you double click the headset button. The podcasting app I liked wouldn't even pause when the headset button was clicked. Finding this app made my headset button usable again, and even better, it lets you set up different profiles for different apps, so I can have different headset behavior in different music apps. This is a great example of how really great apps can take advantage of the open platform on android to really make the experience superior to a closed phone environment. I highly recommend this app to anyone switching from the iPhone, or really anyone at all. |
[2012-12-06] A Google User: Tried then uninstalled Installed on my Nexus 4 (Jellybean). Behaviour (of my 1 button headphones) without the app is to answer a call if ringing, and otherwise to mute/unmute the microphone. If music playing, without the app, it did play/pause. I installed the app in order to get double-click behaviour, especially to skip a track. However, it seems I then had to double-click to mute a call (single-click hung-up), which was annoying as I use mute quite a lot on conf calls. The button clicks seemed to often bring up Google Now, it was especially hard to get a double click to work. It also was not as quick to respond (for example to pause/play and mute) than without it installed. I experimented a bit, but in the end gave up and uninstalled. Double-click behaviour remains an unreached nirvana. |
[2012-12-05] A Google User: A must have The ability to have a much better control of your phone with my headset is priceless. Love the fact that I can customize all button to do what I want. An app like this should be native to android, gladly pay the developer for this it is worth it. |
[2012-12-05] A Google User: Great Way to add functions to Single Button Buds Currently using this application with my Samsung Galaxy Note 2, and a pair of Klipsch S4A ear-buds. Works perfectly, and I really like that I can do pause / play, forward, back, and volume control while still accessing Google Now voice functions with a Long Press. Highly recommended. |
[2012-11-30] A Google User: Amazing Do I need to say anything else? |
[2012-11-20] A Google User: Treeeeeemendous! Got this when I got the Galaxy S3. Does what it says. |
[2012-11-20] A Google User: Excellent! Love the feature that tells you the time when you click and hold the button! Just what I need |
[2012-11-20] A Google User: Free version worked great. Purchased the app and now it doesn't pick up the mic anymore. Useless to me now. |
[2012-11-17] A Google User: Great Product (Motorola Warning)... After a recent update to my Atrix 2, the headphone button did not work while the screen was locked. After contacting the developer, he quickly emailed me back with a solution relating to the screen lock problem. Great customer service!!! Apparently 'Holo Locker' allows button controls while the screen is locked. |
[2012-11-14] A Google User: Great App (well designed) Great Developer Support! THIS IS A GREAT APP! I got this app to help with a project I'm doing that requires me to have remote control over the operation of an android device (Launching different apps, Volume control , Phone actions, Music operations, Brightness, WIFI (ON/OFF), etc.... Although this app does not do all of these things in itself, it does has direct integration to Tasker which really makes it a powerful app. The headset controller can execute up to 8 custom actions per headset button. With Left, Right & Center buttons that means 24 possible configurations! (More then I could use...) In My project I'm using a microcontroller to send "Clicks" to my android device based on button presses I make on the steering wheel of my car. It's working perfectly :) The program works flawlessly on my HTC Mytouch 4G (android 2.3.4) However, I found that the two outside buttons do not respond on a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 P3113 Tablet. All that happens is the volume goes up or down. That said, I emailed the developer and he responded quickly with links on how to correct the issue. Two Big Thumbs UP for the app and the developer! Cheers! |
[2012-11-13] A Google User: Nifty app with great support I have been HBC user for over a year and had it installed on 2 phones (HTC EVO V 4G and HTC One X), it works great and is highly customizable. The only time I had an issue (ended up being music player setting mis-match) support was was quick and pointed me in the right direction. Highly recommend it! |
[2012-11-10] A Google User: Great for workouts. Its nice to switch through a song without pulling your phone out. I've not maximized the value or operations from the software yet, but so far the price is worth it. Galaxy S3 headphones work. |
[2012-11-08] A Google User: Nexus 7 Compatability The app works brilliantly with my Pioneer Earphones / Nexus S phone device (middle button only). However it does not seem to respond on the Nexus 7. Please fix this, as I have paid for the app. |
[2012-11-04] A Google User: Motorola ICS Warning This app worked perfectly on my Droid Bionic until the ICS update. Now if the screen is off - the button action is not recognized. To be clear, the screen does not have to be locked for this to happen - if the screen is dark the button is ignored. Reported this to DEV and he acknowledged this problem on Motorola devices running ICS. He says it is a Motorola problem and something he cannot fix. |
[2012-10-29] A Google User: Requires Internet connection Would be really good, but needs to be online to work. Wonder what else it sends home. |
[2012-10-25] A Google User: Long Press issue on Jelly Bean Long button presses bring up Google Now instead of custom commands on Jelly Bean ROMs. |
[2012-10-22] A Google User: Needs more customization Allow for disabling the notification icon, and a "do nothing" option. Got this to prevent accidentally playing music. |
[2012-10-22] A Google User: Works great. Great app. Configured everything perfectly, resound. |
[2012-10-20] A Google User: Brilliant app Well worth it. |
[2012-10-19] A Google User: Great BUT Excellent overall with 2 important issues that might seem simple but sometime render the app useless.. First 3 buttons not working when Chrome is running, only middle button works, not a deal breaker but annoying. Now on talking using phone the Mute On/Off does Not make any sound when middle button is pressed even if you indicate u want a beep, this is a Deal Breaker! You cant be sure if you are on mute or not, there should be 2 beeps with different sounds or at least one reliable beep... |
[2012-10-17] A Google User: Great job. Android's stock headset controls suck. This app makes it work as well as my old iPhone. Thanks. |
[2012-10-17] A Google User: Great app! This app has all you need to never have to take your phone out of the pocket! With the headset button you can control music, manage incoming calls, direct-dial, start voice commands or even check time! And the caller announcing is great for screening calls! The only glitch is that in-call mic mute doesn't work on my GS3 but that seems to be an issue related to Jelly Bean source code. I still give it 5 stars cause the developer has been very responsive and helpful so far. Keep up the good work Christoph! |
[2012-10-17] A Google User: Very good app This works very well on my SG3 and also can use voice control to call people without taking my phone out my pocket. The developer is very good at responding to problems. Well worth the money! |
[2012-10-16] A Google User: Hafta lose 1 star Some bugs. When i click the headset button to play after stopping/ pausing so long, it doesn't work so i hafta play it from phone again that one time. Pls fix. [monster beats tour on ICS 4.0.3 mostly used w/ winamp] P.S: i really don't wanna update to jellybean, else my headset's function will suffer greatly due to google now |
[2012-10-16] A Google User: Not working as should Only 1 click seems to be working, I'm running reserection remix on jellybean on my s2, please fix :( |
[2012-10-16] A Google User: The only way to adjust volume on Jelly Bean phones Thanks to the brain donors who work at Samsung and Google the long press headphone click that everyone had used to adjust volume is now reserved for the ridiculous Google voice search in Android 4.1.1 and later. So everyone who wants to use aftermarket headphones and listen to music on a Jelly Bean device had no way to adjust volume short of taking their phones out of their pockets and doing it manually. Version 6.5 of Headset Button Controller lets you use 4 short clicks to adjust the volume in the same manner that one long press could previously. Many thanks to the app developer for giving us a way to easily adjust volume. Google can't do it, but this guy can. |
[2012-10-15] A Google User: WOrks like a charm I use it every day. Combined with tasker you just plug headphones and press play to listen to whatever you want. And for double press I have current time spoken to me. |
[2012-10-13] A Google User: awesome app but gs3 issues anyone know why my GS3 isn't working for calls with multiple earphones (s4i and E2s)? music playback and control is fine. when making calls, i hear no sound out of the earphones, and the mic doesn't work. this is baffling. my phones worked fine on other android devices. please help if you can? |
[2012-10-05] A Google User: cool app Amazing app. |
[2012-10-05] A Google User: Awesome Did the trial loved it and wasent even upset to have to pay 2.99 !! Almost got rid of my atrix to get the iphone 5 just so I could have this function back. I use it a ton when riding my motorcycle :) |
[2012-10-04] A Google User: Too inconsistent. It frequently doesn't respond to commands, or does whatever it seems to feel like when I click. Not consistent, hence the bad rating. |
[2012-10-02] A Google User: No long press On jelly bean long press in any combination causes a voice search. because of this I can not use double click and hold for volume for example |
[2012-09-25] A Google User: Works great. Latest version works great with Doggcatcher and Subsonic, which I use hours per day. On JB with gnex. |
[2012-09-24] A Google User: Cleans-up Android's default behavior Works really well in controlling things more reliably than Android on its own, while also giving more functionality and customization. A couple minor bugs (or things I couldn't get to work) on my Galaxy Nexus w/JellyBean & Sennheiser PMX 680i headphones: 1) The functionalities to read the time and to announce callers keep telling me I don't have text-to-speech installed, even though it is installed and working with other apps; 2) The default behavior of "Stop" when the headphones are unplugged works, but if I change the setting to "Play/Pause" (the setting I want) it doesn't pause, but instead keeps playing through the speaker when unplugged (it appears to actually pause and un-pause very quickly). Plus, if it is already paused when the headphones are unplugged, then it starts playing through the speaker. The same behavior occurs with multiple players (default Android player, Spotify, Pandora, etc). Other than these two minor issues which are hopefully fixable, everything works extremely well, and it's well worth the money. |
[2012-09-20] A Google User: Worth the $ Works. Developer responsive. Can't ask for more. |
[2012-09-19] A Google User: Media remote Not able to configure media remote like satechi and photofast.... please fix this for use in car |
[2012-09-18] A Google User: Get this app! I bought the app so I could use it with my vmoda crossfades lp. Now it didn't work completely with them because they are apple only headset with the three button remote. I did purchase another set of headphones the other day (monster inspiration). They came with a series of cords including a android specific one button cord. Took three seconds to set it up. Well worth the price. The dev may want to look into having more compatibility with apple headsets (Maybe an apple headset default profile option). |
[2012-09-10] A Google User: Genius Now I can have headphones the iPhone have cornered the market with. Just brilliant |
[2012-09-10] A Google User: GALAXY S3 (T999) TAKE THAT APPLE!!! THIS APP IS AMAZING. WORKS FLAWLESSLY!! THIS FULLY SUPPORTS the supplied/stock 3-button headphone that comes packaged with the Galaxy S3! For those who jumped ship from iPod/iPhone, this app enables your headphones to mimic the functions of the Apple headphones that we grew accustomed to. This app lets you ASSIGN ALL BUTTONS TO ANY FUNCTION YOU DESIRE IT TO DO!!. Complete personalization...just like the Android platform!!! (This review is for the T-Mobile (T999) Galaxy S3). |
[2012-09-08] A Google User: Doesn't work on EVO LTE Randomly skips songs |
[2012-09-04] A Google User: Gd Would be awesome if worked. With Bluetooth aswll |
[2012-08-31] A Google User: Greatest useful app! Hands down, this is the most useful utility. Try before you buy with the trial version and see for yourself. Awesome controls. One small issue I'm having it that when setting to stop music on plugout, or to start on plugon, it starts the track from the beginning again. Fix it for 5 stars |
[2012-08-31] A Google User: good but not for apple headsets if only it had apple-compatible three-button headsets support ( |
[2012-08-27] A Google User: Revision Emailed the developer and he got back to me the next day. I have absolutely no problem with the app, it was just a tad hard to find where to mute the beeps, which you can do by going to advanced settings, center button options, and then going to each individual control and unchecking the beep sound box |
[2012-08-24] A Google User: Great app Very good App! Fills my needs. Using with cm9 and cm10 (Apollo). |
[2012-08-17] A Google User: DROID razr- Worked fairly well until I upgraded to ICS. Now the headset button doesn't work at all, and after a phone call I have to reboot to get any sound at all. |
[2012-08-12] A Google User: Does not work at all with jellybean Since jellybean update on nexus s... has never worked even once! ...please fix. |
[2012-08-10] A Google User: Needs fix for jb. Worked great until jelly bean. Now anything except a single click brings up Google Now. |
[2012-08-03] A Google User: Samsung Music Player It doesn't work with Samsubg Music Player |
[2012-07-31] A Google User: Great! Could there be an option to say the callers' name only once? |
[2012-07-25] A Google User: Essential App I frequently am on conference calls and need to quickly mute or unmute my mic. Easy for a large headset with a mic switch but portable headsets lack such a switch and require touching the device, which is slow and dangerous when driving. I've tried several similar apps and this is the ONLY app that supports separate actions for Mute Mic and Unmute Mic. Now during a call, I have a single press to Mute Mic and a double press to Unmute Mic. Other apps just have a toggle for mute/unmute mic and that can lead to embarrassing situations where you lose track on if your Mic is mute or not. Now I can repeat the same mute or unmute action more than once just to be safe and will always know the current state. |
[2012-07-22] A Google User: Dont go by my rating alone Only real fault so far is that it doesnt work when in firefox, not sure if any others apps where this may be an issue are affected (so far none). Fix this sought of issue and its 5 stars. Apart from that this app has helped my transition to android immensly by allowing me to replicate certain things my iphone did. |
[2012-07-22] A Google User: Awesome app - please fix or let us know about.... Simply amazing, works flawlessly, with Jellybean on nexus root with klipsch S4a and don't forget to turn on the option to prevent sleep mode. Works better than Klipsch's own app. Finally, an app that does mic/mute correctly. |
[2012-07-17] A Google User: Simplicity itself What can I say apart from it "just works" - really really handy when you are out and about meaning you can jump songs, change the volume and even switch media player without having to dig the smart phone out your pocket. The developer is also very quick to respond to constructive feedback and manages to improve the application thanks to that :) Easily worth the couple of quid for how much nicer your listening experience on your Android phone. |
[2012-07-16] A Google User: Awesome. Needs am/pm on say time, and why does it skip when saying the time? I think it's my phone... Lx |
[2012-07-15] A Google User: Just what I was looking for This app gave me exactly what I wanted from my phone. Now I can use my single button headphones for all my music needs. It also tells you who is calling so I don't have to take my phone out when I am biking or working out. I did download the trial first and then purchased the full app (I don't think anything is different, but you gotta support the programmers!) 5 stars for sure. |
[2012-07-15] A Google User: Rewind broken by Jelly Bean I used to use this all the time for rewinding podcasts. It is now unusable for this purpose because JB Voice gets priority on long clicks. Rewind only binds to long clicks. |
[2012-07-14] A Google User: Excellent I have been using this for two years,been great. |
[2012-07-13] A Google User: Must have app There is problem with none stock headphones, but it is not the app fault, more to do with the Galaxy s3 firmware. |
[2012-07-13] A Google User: Best app of its kind This app is the best of its kind as it hardly crashed/is recognized much better than the other apps, which avoids me phoning people when I'm trying to skip a song. The one thing it is missing - an option for automatically pausing the music whilst saying the time. |
[2012-07-12] A Google User: Good application Saves lot of my effort and my phone's battery. However some of the features don't work. Like forwarding / reverse a song. Else it's a 5 star application. |
[2012-07-10] A Google User: I can use my beats audio I can use my beasts audio to control very useful!!! |
[2012-07-08] A Google User: Great App Would be 5 stars but the Jelly Bean headset functions over ride this app. Thus making long clicks impossible to use in this app. Still very helpful for running with my device. |
[2012-07-07] A Google User: Barely works Works half the time. Just removed this after using it to stop playing my audio and immediately trying to restart it. It never came back on, after 10 button pushes. Lame. I don't get to enjoy my podcasts and music during the week. So, when I finally get to use the headset, and it fails to work it? Fail! |
[2012-07-07] A Google User: Works It makes I phone headphones work for Android and has way more features than I could have ever imagined_! |
[2012-07-01] A Google User: amazing Exactly what it says. Even configured my old Apple headphones to work with my new S3. Now time to get some Beats! Tim |
[2012-06-27] A Google User: Works great, one problem One thing I noticed is, lock screen music player doesn't work when you have head phones plugged in. It sometimes pops up for a second then goes away. This is only happening when I have this app activated and headphones plugged in. No head phones, lock screen music player works. Besides that this app works great. |
[2012-06-21] A Google User: Fantastic app only if u buy it... Just had to buy it..... |
[2012-06-21] A Google User: Brilliant app Totally solved a big problem with android and the button not play/pausing the correct app. Now I have 3 profiles setup for music, audiobooks, and podcasts each one using a different app to play. And its just 1 click on the widget to change profile. |
[2012-06-12] A Google User: It works Having moved over from the darkside of Apple to android I was surprised my control talk Dr Dre beats headphones remote control didn't work however this app solved the problem beautifully |
[2012-06-06] A Google User: Good app |
[2012-06-05] A Google User: Science Be Praised! This is an awesome app that is worth the money! Works perfectly with EVO 4G LTE + Poweramp Pro + Soul SL90s. I no longer have to adjust volume or skip tracks with my phone. It's all handled through one button on the headphones. |
[2012-05-18] A Google User: Fantastic Works great with samsung galaxy s2 (tmobile t989). Finally can control everything. |
[2012-05-16] A Google User: Not for S2 new music player It's fine before, but not supporting the new music player after upgraded to ICS. |
[2012-05-16] A Google User: Great Great app for mic control |
[2012-05-12] A Google User: Best Headset Application Ive tried everything, Headset droid, Jays, etc. Headset Button Controller has the most customability and compatibility!
