Call of the Wild is a tale about unbreakable spirit and the fight for survival in the frozen Alaska.
Buck (a dog that is half St Bernard and half Shepherd) has a good life. He's friendly with his master. He escorts the kids when they take walks. He hunts with the men on the grounds.
This story is told from the perspective of Buck.
But one day, Buck's life changes forever. One of the gardener's hired hands needs money and decides to kidnap and sell Buck.
Dogs are in high demand because of the Alaskan gold rush and he'll get a good price for a dog like Buck.
Gold was found in Alaska, the rush to obtain it required a strong constitution and many dogs to do the work that horses usually did in the states.
The environment breeds harsh conditions. Also in the testing of one’s mettle, one finds own true potential.
Buck not only conquers the weather, the harshness of the men, the other dogs and the wolves he comes into contact with, he also thrives.
Buck goes through many lives, trials, and tribulations finally realizing his potential. On the way he learns many concepts from surprise, deceit and cunning; he also learns loyalty, devotion, and love.
As he is growing he feels the call of the wild.
