[2013-08-29] A Google User: Gizmo doesn't like classical music! The metadata normally used for popular music is very simple but classical music has more complex requirements. Unfortunately, Gizmo does not appear to meet those requirements. A large proportion of classical music recordings are spread over multiple tracks. This especially true of operas and other major works that are sold as boxed sets of several CDs. This makes the creation of a custom 'Work' tag vital for browsing a large collection of classical music in a coherent fashion. Unfortunately, Gizmo ignores my 'Work' tags even though they are specified in my customised Gizmo view in J River Media Center. Instead, Gizmo gives great prominence to the Artist tag, which does not even feature in my defined view. When you are viewing the currently playing track you cannot see either the composer's name or the work title! |

[2013-08-12] A Google User: Not great Works ok but the design is terrible, the gui disconnects a lot, very limited functions, no widget, no notification widget, Developers need to work on this app and make it current, it's basically the same as it was when it first came out years ago. I am a fan of J River Media Center though, I just don't understand why their android app falls so short against their amazing PC application. **UPDATE** I just installed BubbleUPnP UPnP/DLNA app which breathed new life into using J RIver MC. 5 bucks but worth it. Now I will probably only use Gizmo to remote the PC app. |
[2013-07-26] A Google User: Great but lacks features Love controlling J River from different rooms. Can play over phone, server or device (listening to audio over blu ray player). Phone limits playback to 320 which is drawback if you want to plug phone into receiver or DAC with line out. I would also love to be able to see data on type of file and audio res during playback (FLAC 48 khz, 24-bit, etc). And how about a widget? All things considered a great free app. |
[2013-06-04] A Google User: Newer networking? The newer more efficient net API plays 1sec of my movie and then stops. Before it was excellent. I looked everywhere on jRiver's site for an old version, but couldn't find it. |
[2013-05-10] A Google User: JRiver Rocks! Needs a faster way to add separate tracks. Tired of people adding whole album....... |
[2013-04-08] A Google User: Excellent app It can use some polishing but it works great |
[2013-03-20] A Google User: Great App but needs to catch up to IOS counterpart Essential if you own J.River and have a android device. It needs work though in the following areas. The UI need a little work. Missing icons in some areas and icons that stick out on the playback screen. Also the program icon is a bit ugly. Playback stops when you switch to another task, Navigation buttons don't hide when playback starts. Would also be nice to view metadata on the device. Fix some of those and I will change my review to a 5 :) |
[2013-03-09] A Google User: Good basic function App works well for what it does, but what it does is very limited. If you want basic play pause skip access to J river mc from your phone then jackpot, though mine drops the connection frequently over 3g. However there could be alot of improvements. A widget would be great, access to artist information, better browsing experience, creating a que or playlist, better volume control and integration with the web to access pages like the artists wiki are among the long list of improvements I'd love to see. |
[2013-03-08] A Google User: Essential app for jriver Lovely app on my Sony tablet. Could not do without this. Just an update to the user who wants to create playlists. Press and hold the tune you wish to play and then choose your option like add. Then go to your next tune and so on. Hope this helps. |
[2013-03-01] A Google User: Clunky and limited icons are huge J river itself is the best media solution I have ever used granted this android application is free it would be wonderful if it measured up to hyper fines remote for itunes or j remote I would love a paid version of this application that enabled me to rate songs create playlists and have context sensitive menus from the playing now window having said all of this nothing beats jriver buy it now and never look back |
[2013-02-28] A Google User: Clunky, slow, unintuitive Developers should take a look at JRemote for iPad or iOS itself for inspiration. This app is annoying to use. I would gladly pay for an app that didnt test my temper continuosly. |
[2013-02-28] A Google User: I like the idea but... ... the interface is just not something that lends itself to using. Sorry. |
[2013-02-16] A Google User: Awesome Just need to be able to rate songs from tbe app and have them sync to the media server. |
[2013-02-03] A Google User: Love it Please though implement rating from the app! |
[2013-02-01] A Google User: Works Great I really like this app. The only suggestion that I have is that the video be expanded to full screen on my Galaxy Nexus with virtual "home", "back" and "recent apps" buttons hidden. This would make the video larger. This is how Netflix and YouTube function when it comes to streaming video. The buttons should only show when the screen is touched. |
[2013-01-04] A Google User: JRiver is the best media player BAR NONE. Not XBMC not VLC this is the android app for it. 5 stars I love it. |
[2013-01-02] A Google User: Works Great Works great. Jriver Media Center recognizes my Xbox as a render-er, and this lets me tell MC to push my content to my home entertainment system or any other zone from anywhere in my house. This is a fantastic remote app for Jriver MC. A few little bugs, but nothing to complain about. |
[2012-12-27] A Google User: Crashed my phone ... Installed this app, left the app running, switched my phone off. When I got back a few minutes later, couldn't switch my phone back on. Had to remove the battery. Then the phone booted up and now seems OK. Uninstalling. |
[2012-12-24] A Google User: Features Where are all the jriver features, this application is a joke comparison. Please update application and give your customers what they want |
[2012-12-15] A Google User: No queue How you cant view queue |
[2012-12-09] A Google User: Love it Works like a charm |
[2012-10-21] A Google User: Overall good remote, but there's some things that need attention - There's some sudden disconnecting issues for no reason. - An option to add songs to playlists could be great. |
[2012-10-18] A Google User: Functioning...update Would love to see a HOLO design. Love JRiver! You guys are pros. Update: I upgraded to ICS and to stream it says I need flash buy cant install from market. |
[2012-10-15] A Google User: Halfway there Gizmo is a must if you are using JRiver and don't have the computer right in front of you. It will control the software with ease. However, it lacks key features. First, there's no way to reorder, edit, or delete the current play queue. (Well, you can press "Play" on another track, which will replace the entire queue.) This is a pretty basic feature, and it's surprising to find it missing. The Search feature is also too basic. You can search for an artist, have their albums listed, then play an entire album or all the artist's work. As far as I can see, there's no way to pick a track or two from the albums that are found. Finally, the tags that are presented are fine for pop music, but they don't work well for classical or jazz. There is no way to have other tags displayed or to have all metadata for a track displayed. In summary, Gizmo is a useful addition to any JRiver installation. What's there works great. What's missing make Gizmo frustrating. Here's hoping that JRiver will improve this useful adjunct to their software. If so, it would be worth paying extra for. |
[2012-10-07] A Google User: Good but.. Really primitive, the lack of even a view of the now playing list is a serious shortcoming. |
[2012-09-26] A Google User: Makes JRiver even better for hi-fi use I bought a Nexus 7 specifically for this remote. Yes, a few more features would be nice, but it works brilliantly as it's designed - and it's free! Having Hi - Res album art in your hand is a great feature, and the ability to stream to the N7 is ace. Add JPlay to JRiver and you'll have a high end hi-fi source and cool remote for a fraction of the cost of traditional kit - bargain! |
[2012-09-24] A Google User: Needs some additional features. 1) Playlist management. Reordering and deleting tracks from the current playlist. 2) List view would be nice for when connected via VPN/3G. |
[2012-09-13] A Google User: Almost perfect. Very well done, work flawlessly. I just hate the ugly icon. |
[2012-08-07] A Google User: Great app, but need cashing of covers... |
[2012-08-06] A Google User: Awesome! Does exactly what I need it to do. Easy to use and it's just ingenious! Thank u! |
[2012-08-05] A Google User: Garbage Constantly tries to reconnect to library server or hangs up with a black screen. |
[2012-07-28] A Google User: Not perfect Cannot play playlists |
[2012-07-26] A Google User: Video on 4.1 Doesn't use flash anymore....?? |
[2012-07-17] A Google User: Spook Exactly what I was looking for. |
[2012-07-15] A Google User: Eh. It works. But compared to the apps available for controlling Squeezebox, Gizmo is very basic. I would be willing to pay for an evolved version of Gizmo or alternative. Have not tried JRemote. |
[2012-07-07] A Google User: Great option for JRMC Wow, a program that works fantastic |
[2012-07-07] A Google User: Love MC Low functionality |
[2012-07-05] A Google User: Having trouble w/ ice cream sandwich Worked great, but since Ice Cream Sandwich update, gets stuck on resume play. Please fix:-) |
[2012-06-26] A Google User: Jriver is the best, this just makes it even better |
[2012-06-24] A Google User: Its ok, it works Its not laid out very well. For example the commands (play/stop/next) shouldn't be in a separate menu. They should be on screen somewhere all of the time. Very annoying to have to keep going back to the menu just to stop or skip a track. Also should be able to change the view. I would like a list view, not the album cover view, its a waste of space. On mobile apps u need to consider screen space! But the good news is the app works perfectly. I think this is the longest review I ever written haha. |
[2012-06-17] A Google User: Good, but needs better UI I love the J River Media Center and this app cause I can stream music to my phone, but the user interface needs to be improved, until then it's average. |
[2012-05-31] A Google User: Great app 10/10 app. Would like to be able to use it as a renderer, to be able to 'play to' from MC17, just like any other dlna clients. |
[2012-05-27] A Google User: Essential addon to J River Media Center If you don't know J River Media Center, do yourself a favor and check it out. |
[2012-05-25] A Google User: Choppy Video trying to stream video to Acer A500 is very choppy. i have to use the built in Clear.fi program for good video. great otherwise |
[2012-04-25] A Google User: The best for JR media center Great app everything is working! |
[2012-04-23] A Google User: Best remote control of my pc |
[2012-04-21] A Google User: Bad Company Only 3 stars because still no video support. Update: J River offers no support and if you ask online in their forums, they ignore you and will not help. |
[2012-04-18] A Google User: K K |
[2012-04-16] A Google User: Sweet Zombie Jesus Nothing like it. Love it. Working beautifully. Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 Honeycomb |
[2012-04-09] A Google User: More editing options Needs rating editor |
[2012-04-09] A Google User: Great times ahead Love it! Works great on my Galaxy s2. Both as a remote control of my Media Center and for streaming music to my phone. |
[2012-04-06] A Google User: Love the cover browsing But please add playlist creation and now playing with more control |
[2012-03-14] A Google User: Needs a rating option |
[2012-02-29] A Google User: lost a star.. no playlist creation on phone?! come on now... |
[2012-02-29] A Google User: Great Media App Great addition to what is easily the best media player/manager around. Note: Most connection issues will be solved through proper router setup. |
[2012-02-23] A Google User: Love this app. Outstanding - use it all the time to control several media servers. Interface is easy and full of goodies. |
[2012-02-16] A Google User: Great app when I can connect But I frequently can't connect to the server for no obvious reason. |
[2012-02-11] A Google User: Very useful & cool Wish it could allow to rate songs from the phone + display elapsed play time, like the phonebasic features of aWARemote. |
[2012-02-07] A Google User: My Ultimate Favorite J River team are on it! Thanks for creating Gizmo and addressing the lil bugs that were present. Media Center my ultimate favorite! |
[2012-02-01] A Google User: Now excellent Update from previous review. Stability has greatly improved now, and the app is just that little bit better in every respect. If you have J River, you need this. |
[2012-01-23] A Google User: Very, very good Works flawlessly, great app for a great media center. The ability to control the volume on the server with the phone/tablet volume buttons is GREAT. Not to mention, being able to quickly play music without turning on the TV. Very good stuff. |
[2012-01-23] A Google User: Excellent Works perfectly on two different Android devices, and flies on the WiFi LAN. Excellent control of library on the server, as well as playback - both on the server side and on the handheld. Streaming movies straight to the tablet, playing music on the server without the need to turn the TV on - very nifty and stable indeed. Great work by the JRiver team. |
[2011-12-26] A Google User: Correction sekoull Fenomenal application! Everything works smoothtly, nice interface design and functionality, even beyond high expectations! Bravissimo JRiver! |

[2011-11-14] A Google User: So awesome! If you use JRiver Media Center (which you should), this is an essential app. All media content can be played on the phone or remotely on the computer in Theater Mode. Works great and couldn't be more useful! |
[2011-10-28] A Google User: Gizmo Love it |
[2011-10-02] A Google User: Fantastic app, Super... This app makes JRIVER MC so easy to use by turning your android into your portable music controller. What's more, it is great at accessing all of your media files remotely. Great app!!! Complaints have to do with earlier versions I think. |
