The visual beat gives the reference beat corresponding to tempo in BPM, whereas the audio beat matches exactly your chosen rhythm pattern.

[2013-07-20] A Google User: Great promise, but needs work. This program provides remarkable flexibility in setting up custom rhythms and saving them for practice sessions later. The process of setting the rhythms up is straightforward and effective, and allows, as far as I can tell, virtually any beat pattern to be duplicated. However, the visual and auditory beats do not sync under all circumstances. The visual beat flashes only on the specific note used in the time signature, for example the 1/4 beat in 3/4 time, and it flashes on every such note whether you program a rest there or not. Unfortunately, especially in ternary mode, for example with 1/8 notes in 3/4 time, this means that the visual beat will often be completely out of sync with the auditory beat used for practice. This may not be a problem for persons with different practice habits and intentions than mine, but it unfortunately is a game stopper for me. To give Huang full credit, he responded to my email inquiry promptly with an explanation of the issue, and he has done a remarkable job of making input of beat patterns flexible and intuitive. If coordination of the auditory and visual beats were solid, I would happily give this app 5 stars. |
