[2013-08-23] A Google User: Needs attention This used to be my first choice app for podcasts , but for a while now if there is anything in my play list and I play something new, it replays the old episode. Have to remove and delete the whole play list to fix. Then re-download the episode I want. Going back to beyondpod until fixed. Also, would like to see lock screen controls added. |
[2013-08-21] A Google User: Variable fail Variable speed playback doesn't work, setting is impossible to find. |
[2013-07-13] A Google User: Keeps a stopping podcasts Randomly stops podcasts. I have to go back into app and hit play then it starts back about 5 seconds earlier. I download my podcast I do not stream. And I wont be doing anything else on the phone when this happens. |
[2013-06-30] A Google User: Works well, interface needs time to learn |
[2013-03-16] A Google User: Leftover files after uninstall Can't delete folder after uninstalling. Acast |
[2013-02-20] A Google User: Too buggy 5 star to 2 star. Too buggy to use now. |
[2013-01-25] A Google User: Ok Good, but not flawless- deleting read posts does not delete downloaded audio files and therefore fills memory card. |
[2013-01-18] A Google User: Nice Podcast App I have been using this app (free version) for years, going back to Froyo. I use it to download and play regular tech podcasts. They down load during the day and ready for me to hear on the commute home. They app does a nice job of cleaning up after itself by letting me set thresholds on the number of downloads to keep. It would be 5 stars but somewhere along the line it developed a problem opening the feeds. On the first attempt to open a feed it opens the last one opened, then on the second attempt it opens the feed you want. Just a slight annoyance. |
[2013-01-04] A Google User: Incredibly frustrating Works most of the time, but VERY often it can't play certain feeds that it played just fine the day before. The error message, if any, is useless : Cannot create player for [URL] or simply "Exception". |
[2012-12-04] A Google User: Variable Speed Playback! Wow- finally found this functionality on Android! Works like a charm on my LG Lucid ICS. After more testing I'll be buying the pro version. Lots of other great features too- love the download options and the large playback buttons. Great app! |
[2012-11-24] A Google User: Does exactly what it needs to do This is the only easy to use podcast app that I've found |
[2012-11-20] A Google User: Player randomly pauses Love the app but the player sometimes pauses at random. Happens more often when running in background with other apps. |
[2012-11-17] A Google User: Ok Not the best, but among the free ones, it does things better than most. |
[2012-10-27] A Google User: Great but headset control would be great! After Google stopped supporting "listen" I tried a lot different podcast apps and this one fits my need the best. I use it on a HTC desire HD under ver 2.x. What I miss is the possibility to use the headphone control button as none of the programmes recognise A-Cast. Would it be possible to add this? K. |
[2012-10-17] A Google User: Plays all, but sloppy interface Plays both audio and video casts. If it weren't for that I'd be annoyed at the sloppy interface, awful updating, and many bugs. |
[2012-10-15] A Google User: Finally a sane podcast manager I only wanted to get a podcast manager that would let me add podcasts by URL, remember play position and not require google accounts access permissions. Finally after sifting through 10+ podcast managers I found one! Thank you ACast developers for adding a flexible podcast manager app that works. If I manage to use the speedup feature for playing downloaded podcasts I would love this app even more :-) |
[2012-10-13] A Google User: Fixes audio problems with S3 Using this program's experimental player fixes popping noise error with S3 podcast playback. UI leaves something to be desired, but it works and makes the Same usable as a podcast player. Thanks! |
[2012-10-08] A Google User: Efficient and reliable! Dear author, you can consider to make it beautiful now, many people will love this! |
[2012-10-06] A Google User: Clumsy Clumsy interface... |
[2012-09-30] A Google User: Works... mostly This app is a little buggy, often pausing for no reason, sometimes deleting a different file than the one I selected, nothing that can't be dealt with. It's also a little clunky to use, especially when adding new feeds. Its own searchable list of podcasts is far from extensive, so I end up having to go to the podcast's web page, find the rss feed, and add it that way, which is clunky. The developers also seem to have abandoned it, as there have been no updates for a year. The adverts take up a lot of screen space so I paid for the full version, but I think I'll try something new now. |
[2012-09-26] A Google User: Useful but not the best yet (for my ARCHOS 70) Scheduled download/synchronization does not work if the app is moved to SD. It's a shame I have to keep it in the (limited) main memory. Can this read RSS newspaper as well? (for my Xperia Ray) Also, I have recently upgraded my phone to Android ICS 4.0.4. I find that the play/resume button on my bluetooth headset no longer works. FF and REW still work though. Please check. |
[2012-09-22] A Google User: Good A very good and useful app. Not yet updated to support rich notifications and lockscreen player controls. |
[2012-08-25] A Google User: Awful Deserves award: most cluttered UI ever. Pretty dumb: can't find feeds by keyword and refuses to browse file system for an OPML file which I have, just not where this app expects to find it: in its own subdirectory! Yeah, sure, I've always kept my supposedly globally compatible OPML file in a subdirectory called "acast," because it makes perfect sense... I am a psychic and I've always known that someday I would run into a program called "acast" that would look nowhere else than in its own subdirectory for a file that is supposed to be useful with many programs. Pffft. What a dumb idea! RSS feed display/rendering is quite ugly. And of course, it annoys us with ads. What's not to hate? Go have a tooth extracted instead. More fun than this. |
[2012-08-24] A Google User: Don't update Was 5* until the latest update. Can no longer do other stuff on my phone whilst listening to a podcast as if I don't stay in the app then it will sound all crackling.I must stay in the app and do nothing else on the phone. Although playback is fine if I use my phone's music player but I prefer to use the apps player as if u pause it, go out of the app, it will play back from where u stopped when u return |
[2012-08-23] A Google User: V good app! Scheduler is great. UI complex but no prob if you spend a bit of time learning it. For 5* I'd like to customize individual feeds |
[2012-08-22] A Google User: Not very simple, poor Bluetooth support The interface is complicated, but probably quite configurable. However, while the forward/back buttons work to jump you a few seconds in the file, the pause/play button does not work. |
[2012-08-15] A Google User: The ui is rough and can't choose which Google Reader account to sync with. |
[2012-08-13] A Google User: Handy app Does all I need. |
[2012-08-04] A Google User: Was a great podcast player, but seriously needs some updates and big fixes. I have the paid version and I hate to ditch it... |
[2012-08-02] A Google User: Wanted to love it This app has its heart in the right place. There is a real need for a good podcatch app on Android. ACast tries to fill the gaps, but it is just too unreliable to work for me. I had issues with item selection, adding feeds, and worst of all, stuttering playback. The menu layout is confusing as well. I hope that via revisions and updates this app eventually gels and becomes the nice tool that it could be. |
[2012-07-31] A Google User: Great app, but buggy The developers are great with bug fixes. But it seems like I'm always running into new bugs that have to be fixed with the new updAtes all the time. That said, the features in this app are You can't find them anywhere else in any other application for free. |
[2012-07-28] A Google User: T Great app but annoyed with it starting at random all the time. I start a song playing through bluetooth,it starts last podcast playing at the same time. I disconnect from car bluetooth, it starts playing last podcast through phone speaker. I visit YouTube, it starts playing podcast. SOD OFF! Give us an 'only play when I click play' option. And yes, I've been through the existing options 20 times. |
[2012-07-27] A Google User: Galaxy Nexus 4.1.1 Been using this for years. Basic and effective. Still a few random stops and filter button weirdness but overall Mic and simple. |
[2012-07-15] A Google User: The best It really sucks that this is the best podcatcher for Android. |
[2012-07-15] A Google User: Ok but unsupported Does the job ok but has some annoying quirks and is apparently unsupported. Switched to DoggCatcher. |
[2012-07-11] A Google User: Great |
[2012-06-11] A Google User: Developer sadly abandons ACast? I loved this app. By far, the most powerful but lots of problems on new EVO lte running ICS. It appears no activity on website and ignoring emails. Real sad...moving on |
[2012-06-08] A Google User: A suberb app but for one thing One of the best podcast apps in the market. And the absolute best podcast app for it's price. Just a really great app. I've got one complaint however. There hasn't been an update since last September and the play/pause button doesn't work on ICS. Five stars otherwise. |
[2012-06-08] A Google User: Very good. I use this app every day for my commute. No pc sync required. Everything just shows up and I play it. Self contained. Need to see better ICS's multitasking support. |
[2012-06-04] A Google User: Best podcast app This is the best podcast app I've found. I rely on this app so much and use the widget frequently. |
[2012-05-28] A Google User: So sad because it used to be good That's when I purchased the pro version. But now it's pausing all the time, devs did not answer email about fc issues. Have since moved onto Google's Listen. And to think I once recommended this on my blog. :( |
[2012-05-27] A Google User: ICS support? Crashed at start... |
[2012-05-19] A Google User: Favorite podcast app I've tried many and none have come close to doing with this one does as efficiently as it does it. There are a few quirks here and there, but overall my favorite. |
[2012-05-16] A Google User: Best one. Best one out there. |
[2012-05-15] A Google User: Too many bugs The playlist goes crazy sometimes. Select an item to play and 5 items back plays etc. |
[2012-04-23] A Google User: Best free podcast player Works very well and seamlessly. Wish dev still supported |
[2012-04-17] A Google User: No longer supported Used to be the best podcast software for Android but no updates since September. Few bugs now, playback cutting out, ui issues etc. Disappointed after buying the unlock key. |
[2012-04-13] A Google User: Randomly stops playback So close and yet so far - app randomly stops playback, requiring it to be unpaused. Will not buy until this bug is resolved. |
[2012-04-10] A Google User: Best podcast player. And free! I prefer it over Beyondcast. It is more customizable, has a better player and it's free. Love, love, love |
[2012-04-04] A Google User: Love all the features. Hate that the menu ALWAYS pops up. Not even a simple (single click) play option from the Playlist. |
[2012-03-31] A Google User: Great! It can't get much better then this |
[2012-03-27] A Google User: Great app, but Stops at random points of time while playing Audio in the Background. |
[2012-03-21] A Google User: Needs a huge screen This came preinstalled on a tablet. I use Listen for podcasts and I see nothing in this which makes me want to change. The EULA bars users from copying functionality from Acast and incorporating it into their own apps. Honestly, there is absolutely no chance of me wanting to do that! |
[2012-03-04] A Google User: UI could be much better. SE X10i Android 2.3.3. The user interface is NOT intuitive, could be MUCH easier to subscribe to podcasts. Video streaming sometimes halts in the middle og a 28 min. Video podcast and will not play further. Otherwise works ok. |
[2012-03-01] A Google User: Works..... Seek bar doesn't work and doesn't remember where you stop an episode. And u.I. is ugly, kinda annoying to navigate. But atleast it plays stuff. |
[2012-02-21] A Google User: Not worth time The only redeeming factor for this app is its variable speed play of the podcasts, but the setting is under advanced settings and it takes forever to find. And for me, a Motorola Droid 2 Global owner, the setting is grayed out. So I can not change the playback speed. No documentation what-so-ever. Deleoper's website is a joke. Just a blog, with no user manual or a how to list. FAQ is a joke too. A blog entry with answers to questions from people and not kept up. Questions from Fall of 2011 still no answers. No compatibility list for devices. I don't know why I wasted my time downloading it but I hoped that the variable speed play back would work. Well it didn't. Down the drain this app goes right after writing this review. I'd rather use the Google Listen. To do anything on this darn thing, you need drill down many menu items. I am done and out. |
[2012-02-13] A Google User: Needs an Update Have to select feed twice to open. Then it opens wrong feed. Downloads and updates good. Player is very good. Plez fix the little functions. Lg p925 |
[2012-02-13] A Google User: Has bug Bug: stops randomly while playing. Otherwise love it but this is annoying |
[2012-02-02] A Google User: Pros and Cons Great speed control. Mediocre interface but head and shoulders above the competition. Well worth your time. |
[2012-02-02] A Google User: Great This is a great app no problems for me does all I need. |
[2012-01-30] A Google User: Awful Horrible interface, claims variable speed playback but if it does it there is no way to activate it! Installed! |
[2012-01-27] A Google User: Great app, but buggy Bug: stops randomly during playback. But great feature set. Feature request: ability to customize settings for each feed individually e.g. I would like some podcasts deleted daily, some never at all - saves space vs global settings. Excellent app. |
[2012-01-27] A Google User: Great app Just works |
[2012-01-23] A Google User: Not pretty, but effective Does every thing you want a pod catcher to do..... Interface is clunky, and search feature is pretty poor for UK podcasts. otherwise great! |
[2012-01-19] A Google User: Wonderful, but 2 suggestions Great app, and love the widget for easy access to streaming controls. Please make it so that unplugging headphones from the audio jack stops playback. *Found that option in settings* Also when clicking on a subscription from google reader, have it open to the feeds by default and move the other options in the pop up somewhere else. 5 stars if these changes occur |
[2012-01-16] A Google User: nice work clean and simple, stable, user friendly, reliable and enjoyable. what can i say more? it has become one of my favorite uses for my phone. |
[2011-12-29] A Google User: Best Free Fast Playback Player! Have tried several free combinations of good podcast players and/or downloaders. While Acast is not perfect, it is the only free all-in-one app I've found that can download and play back podcasts in faster than real-time. Bugs: sometimes randomly stops playing podcast, but pressing "play" resumes from same spot, so only minor problem. Feed sometimes re-downloads podcasts I've finished and deleted. Option screens are a bit confusing, ie don't "update all" and "download latest" essentially do the same thing? |
[2011-12-27] A Google User: The right app I searched a lot for an app with all the features of Acast. This was, hands down, the best one so far. What it lacks on interface, it has of features. The filters are great, you can manage casts individually, the organization is excellent. Sometimes it has some strange behavior, like not downloading the casts and having to re-force the queue, but still is is a great app. Only thing missing is a sum of total time of playlist and filters. |
[2011-12-23] A Google User: Interface horrendous. SO many bugs. Books ok. To play audio books double speed with ACast, move your audio book under /sdcard/acast/YourBook, click Add, +, Add Directory, <YourBook>, Feeds, <YourBook>, Open, Menu, Common, Settings, Advanced, Experimental Player, Audio Speed 1.9x, Ok, go back, Chapter 1, Play. To get Bluetooth button working exclusively with ACast, root your phone, download Gemini App Manager, find all other apps that autostart on Bluetooth button, turn them off, open ACast, Menu, Common, Settings, Player, Headset Button, will crash, restart ACast. |
[2011-12-20] A Google User: Needs ics support Starts and stops on ics needs update |
[2011-12-19] A Google User: Clumsy No download button, frequently deletes or downloads something other than selected. Dumping this for BeyondPod, better interface, free, no ads. |
[2011-12-17] A Google User: Absolutely wonderful!!! Use it every day. Downloads podcasts while I sleep. Also syncs with Google listen subscriptions. |
[2011-11-29] A Google User: Best free podcatcher Fav features: local downloads of audio, scheduled downloads, limit to wifi, hide from media player, FREE! |
[2011-11-24] A Google User: Best podcatcher > goog Listen I sifted through most pod catchers to find the best replacement for the awful Google Listen. This won hands down. It's got a lot of features, so can be slightly daunting for the first 15 mins of setup, but that's not a bad thing. It currently has a minor bug or two, like taking you to a different podcast than one you selected in a menu, but it's trivial stuff and probably fixed by the time you read this. |
[2011-11-23] A Google User: Force closes All it does is force close every time I start it. on Desire HD. |
[2011-11-15] A Google User: Improved Most of the old bugs are gone. Pretty happy with it, especially for a free app. |
[2011-11-10] A Google User: Google Reader import doesn't work Google Reader import doesn't work - not much use to me without that so I uninstalled. |
[2011-11-10] A Google User: Moving on I've given up hope you could tweak this app to make it great and moved to Doggcatcher. I still like how Acast works better, but serious bugs remain. |
[2011-11-08] A Google User: Using This Heavily This is a good app, and I'm using it pretty heavily. It works reliably and I've found it the best way to get a pile of entertainment onto my tablet easily. However, it could use some refinement and there are a few bugs - mostly all interface problems. |
[2011-11-08] A Google User: Buggy, but awesome interface. It's hard to justify paying for an app that randomly deletes downloads, streams already downloaded objects. Please fix! |
[2011-10-29] A Google User: Used to be the best... Used to be the best, now it can bring my dual core Samsung galaxy 2 epic 4g touch to its knees? Developers no longer respond to emails. :-( |
[2011-10-28] A Google User: Ok Quite buggy, but still usable. Also contains ads! |
[2011-10-14] A Google User: Frustrated Uses too much memory...locks other apps up...freezes phone...can't answer incoming calls sometimes locks up my GPS...very frustrating at times |
[2011-09-21] A Google User: can't see textbox when adding a podcast the ads take up the space needed to see what I'm typing. LG optimus v |
[2011-09-20] A Google User: galasy s ii برنامج جيد واكثر من جيد لاستماع وتحميل البودكاست |
[2011-09-14] A Google User: Just keeps getting better I've been using ACast for a long time to listen to large talk radio podcasts. It just keeps getting better. In the advanced settings, I can even increase the playback speed which is great for talk radio. I can't even remember the last time I had a FC issue. I never lose my place. It's a polished app and I recommend it. |
[2011-09-12] A Google User: Very good. And doesnt drain my battery in idle. Only very few minor bug |
[2011-09-12] A Google User: Cracking bit of kit if you can live with the odd minor bug. |
[2011-09-03] A Google User: Battery killer Not exactly encouraging to buy the full version when the free version drains my battery at 70+ % at idle. |
[2011-09-03] echoota: Battery killer Not exactly encouraging to buy the full version when the free version drains my battery at 70+ % at idle. |
[2011-08-31] A Google User: Good podcatcher, can improve I get a consistent bug where, after playing an item, selecting a different feed takes me to the feed I just played instead. Otherwise great!! |
[2011-08-31] David Batten: Good podcatcher, can improve I get a consistent bug where, after playing an item, selecting a different feed takes me to the feed I just played instead. Otherwise great!! |
[2011-08-24] A Google User: Tried several podcatchers. This is the best I have found. |
[2011-08-24] mrk: Tried several podcatchers. This is the best I have found. |
[2011-08-20] A Google User: At the moment the best podcatcher available. Please add support for YouTube based feeds and update user interface |
[2011-08-20] Ivano Alessandro: At the moment the best podcatcher available. Please add support for YouTube based feeds and update user interface |
[2011-08-16] A Google User: It's ok UI is not the nicest thing in the world, but it works |
[2011-08-16] Aaron: Gets buggier over time. Always loses your place when resuming. Corrupt files. Playlist movement nearly non-functional. I give up. Uninstalling |
[2011-08-16] Milena: It's ok UI is not the nicest thing in the world, but it works |
[2011-08-15] A Google User: Just crap. Please someone make a half decent podcast app for android. Its not too much to ask |
