Android Remote Media Center is a client for remotely controlling and viewing your windows 7 media center and other windows (xp, vista: limited functionality!) media via remote potato server (running on windows).
Works well over wifi, and much better than dlna over 3G, 4G and reportedly edge. Can easily slide forward/backward all kinds of videos.
Specifically it is able to
- Browse and search the EPG Grid (*)
- Browse and Schedule recordings (*)
- Browse channels and programs (*)
- Watch videos
- Watch recorded tv
- Listen to music (with slider and shuffle)
- Browse hires pictures with multitouch
- Remote control (*)
- Live TV can be unlocked by an in-app purchase (*)
(*) supported only on windows 7 and 8 media center
Needs version 0.98.6 or higher of the Remote Potato Server.
3G, 4G or wifi is advised.
A player like diceplayer, vplayer, rockplayer lite, mx player or moboplayer (try with hard/soft decoding) is needed for video.
Supports honeycomb and ICS as well.
- Strongly adviced to NOT using any app while driving or during other dangerous activities.
- RMC streams media which can consume lots of bandwidth especially WHEN using high bitrates - be sure you have a good data plan before you start using 3G and 4G connections to stream your video.
This app has the possibility for in-app purchase of Live TV. It only adds Live TV, whereas the full version (http://goo.gl/YeklZ) will have added features.

[2012-08-21] CBers: No music ARTISTS listed in latest version. No music ARTISTS listed in latest version. Album lists OK, but not ARTISTS. Have tried previous version and it displays OK. |

[2012-08-17] Christopher: Brilliant - meant we didn't miss the Olympics Fantastic - slightly tricky to get going; I have learnt lots about firewalls and port forwarding. Brilliant though. |
[2012-08-17] fred: Brilliant app Thank you! |
[2012-08-17] Bill: Rocks Amazing integration! I use this app all the time, and it is nearly flawless |

[2012-08-14] Mark: Works Works perfect on home local server 3g is slower, hotels or airport work fine |
[2012-08-14] David: Personal information? Why is there a new requirement for the App that it needs to access my personal info? |
[2012-08-14] Patrick: Excellent App! UI could be better but the functionality is there! |
[2012-08-14] Satman: The Best WMC App Not only the best but the developer is responsive to change requests. |
[2012-08-14] Andrew: Great app Thanks |
[2012-08-13] Tarrick DD: Tons of awesomeness If you are a windows media center user, this is the app to have. It does all the this I want it to do and more. |

[2012-08-13] gtjr: Great Very good |
[2012-08-13] Shanib: It's the most amazing thing ever! Thanks for making it available on the play store. |
[2012-08-13] Dino: Remarkably well executed I was skeptical that this app would do everything it claimed, but I am pleasantly surprised. It does it all and does it well. The UI is not as slick as I'd like, though the latest release is a big step forward in that regard. Overall very good. |
[2012-08-12] A: Great! Works very well with Remote Potato and WMC7. Can't let iOS have all the fun, can we? For extra credit, use this app on a Samsung device! :-) |
[2012-08-12] George: Great app!!! Love it. I was happy to donate. |
[2012-08-12] Nour: Awesome Amazing app, works brilliantly too |

[2012-08-12] Raymond: Awesome app Does all the things i want and more. Awesome work dev :-) |
[2012-08-12] Paul: why the permissions change? worrying |
[2012-08-11] Konstantin: Okay Not very good for streaming, and a weak UI, but good for setting/reviewing recordings. |
[2012-08-08] LeeC: Great dev I've been using the beta versions for a while and the developer is very interested in new ideas and hearing about bugs to quickly implement fixes. Have used on DroidX, Galaxy Tab 7, and now Nexus 7. Great app |
[2012-08-07] Ian: UI is still clunky but the rest is awesome. Works well. UI, to be honest, is ugly but functional. Mimicking Media Buddy for WP7 would not be a bad. Jerky video caused by server bug. Fixed in my fork on github. |
[2012-08-03] the 8/5/2012 : Doesn't always open? Sometimes the app doesn't open, requires a phone restart. Also there is a "UK" app called DVBLink that allows live tv streaming...they don't make a version for US tv. So there is a way to stream live tv, that feature is worth paying for too. |
[2012-07-28] Angelo: Awesome So far I haven't had any issues. I am using rock player lite on Motorola python. |
[2012-07-21] Civic/Scootin: Fantastic app I couldn't ask for anything better towards this free app.. If live TV streaming from WMC is supported I would be more then happy to donate.. However I won't complain as many features are included here that many paid variations of this type of app has. Great job OD |
[2012-07-19] Mark: Great App Needs Some Work This app was exactly what I was looking for with my home theater setup. I use CetonCorp's InfiniTV hooked up to my HTPC. My cable company doesn't have an app for remote DVR management. This allows me to remotely set and delete recordings. I haven't been able to get it to stream my recordings yet, but hopefully soon. The app is not very polished, and needs some work, but once it is setup, it's great. It has saved my butt when I have forgotten to record stuff. |
[2012-07-14] Law: Really good on some devices On my HTC Desire this works very well. Actually it is brilliant. However on my tablet it is unusable. This is only because my tablet has no physical buttons and I get stuck in several screens where the android task bar is hidden and I am left stranded without a back button (remote control screen (also video streaming (vplayer))). It is still 5stars though (when not stuck). |
[2012-07-10] Joe: I ran into problems listening to music ( the app crashes ) but the rest of it is great. Fix suggestions? |
[2012-07-09] Jason: Fantastic Remote Potato is awesome and this just adds to its greatness... setup recordings through your android device and also stream recorded video. Great app... |
[2012-07-09] terrence: Iamledgend Hanbcock ok I. |
[2012-07-08] Chris: uu utoo much hassle |
[2012-07-05] Damien: Well Done Really great app to schedule Windows Media Centre recordings while on the go. |
[2012-07-02] Nicholas: Great, almost as polished as it could be. The default video player that comes with Android 4.0 works fine with the streams, no need to download additional video players. It would also be great to have the movie library load, not just the video library. Keep up the good work. |
[2012-06-29] Laurence: Top quality app Can't say any more than that |
[2012-06-25] alex: Has worked well This is a good app for accessing my computer remotely and watching recorded shows or scheduling New recordings. The menus are fine for what they're needed. Only thing missing is to be able to watch live tv on the fly. Keep up the good work. |
[2012-06-22] Devesh: Cool app Setting up Remote Potato on my desktop was relatively easy, but video playback is jerky and not that smooth...love the convenience though |
[2012-06-17] Sarah: Doesn't work |
[2012-06-15] Kevin: Almost perfect 5 star app but I've got to give it 4 until we can skin the remote. The image of the tv remote is butt ugly |
[2012-06-13] grrrrrrrrrrrr: . . |
[2012-05-28] David: Fail Fail on all lvls. You have to have a PhD in networking/computers... make it more easy for people to use. Please |
[2012-05-28] J: Doesn't work with ice cream sandwich This is a great app, but doesn't even start since my android upgrade (official) to ice cream sandwich. Tapping to open just does nothing. |
[2012-05-27] Hiren: Great for media center Awesome app, free to boot. |
[2012-05-25] js_saves: awesome Simple to setup, great to use if your TV tuner software doesn't automatically come with this support already. |
[2012-05-20] Damo642: Excellent |
[2012-05-09] bgag2783: Works Great on Nook Tablet The NT is the perfect size for this, the remote shows up great and while the interface isn't pretty, it's perfectly workable |
[2012-05-04] E: Great, except remote I've used this for a few months, and it's super. One glaring problem is that the remote control for directly controlling WMC never has worked. :( I have to switch to Unified Remote which works perfectly. |
[2012-05-02] Ryan: Excellent remote software Requires you to setup server but it is very simple to do. |
[2012-04-06] Ganesh: Wonderful App .. Great work by Developer Absolutely Great App... Works great on my SGS2. Thanks The best app on Android to watch Windows Media Center videos on Android. |
[2012-04-05] KustomKid: Nice Little App for Remote Potato/WMC I've been using this app on my wife's eLocity a7 (dexter's ROM), my friend's HTC Rezound, and my Motorola Atrix 2 for the past few months and it's great. While not as polished as the iPhone app, it's also free as opposed to $7 and works just the same. One advantage this one does have over it's iOS counterpart is the ability to be linked to two media center PCs. The only reason I'm docking a star is that it's missing a little polish and intuitiveness that would make it easier for the masses to use. If you rocking Windows Media Center and Remote Potato than this is the perfect app to tie it all together with your Android device. |
[2012-03-25] Chadwiki: A+ on Asus Transformer tf101 ICS Paired this with diceplayer and dice tegra2 plugin and connects to my remote potato server to give me great playback from my win7 media center. Can schedule recordings, watch recorded video, and quality is great (over home wifi). Works great on my Galaxy Nexus running liquid 1.1 ICS Rom too. Well done. |
[2012-03-22] Rob: Brilliant! Really superb, even if the interface is quite clunky. Also can't watch live tv. |
[2012-03-18] Wesley: Fantastic I had to download the potato server for my DVR PC operating Windows 7 with Windows Media Center and the rockstar media streamer for my Droid, but now I can remote record TV shows, and access those and the rest of my media directly from my phone. This app is awesome. |
[2012-03-15] Mynor: For those wondering how too use... You need to install the server on your machine -- google "remote potato server" and install. overlook, awesome little app... Interface could be prettier... But no complaints for a free app. |
[2012-03-14] Maria: Really??? How the hell do you set it up???it just keeps saying server not found...will b uninstalling wat a waste of time but dont take my word for it go ahead and download and rate yourself hv fun. |
[2012-03-09] Samuel: Wow This app is amazing. Thank you for developing it |
[2012-03-08] Rami: Great Brilliant, just brilliant!! |
[2012-03-06] cj: Failed... Can't get this to work. No documentation on how to set this up. |
[2012-03-05] moosecat: Just great. |
[2012-03-03] Steve: Does the job Functionally great, but lacks the polish (and dvd covers and metadata) of Plex... 5 stars if that gets sorted |
[2012-03-03] Motoko: Great! Please add a sort feature for all media, not just the recorded tv section. |
[2012-03-02] Dan: The only one! It just works! Great that you can set up two different potato servers. Custom remote needs work - its ugly... |
[2012-03-01] Brett: Bug Doesn't seem to read folders with ampersand (&) character correctly. Can you fix this? Otherwise great! |
[2012-02-29] Brian: Awesome Clearly the best solution for streaming recorded content. |
[2012-02-28] Bastard: Great app Thanks for a great app!! Room for improvement but a great start. Seem to lose sound at times when fast forward / rewinding |
[2012-02-27] Mike: Gnex Awesome |
[2012-02-20] Sean: Sweet Audio/Video sync issues seem to be fixed. This app is one of a kind and works great even over 3G. I can watch all of my TV recordings, listen to music, and schedule recordings. It is even possible to watch live TV if you schedule a recording then wait a few minutes and then start streaming. Get a Ceton tuner and build a HTPC. |
[2012-02-17] James: Works great. Able to stream the .wtv files flawlessly to my Skyrocket over AT&T's mobile network. |
[2012-02-08] Kai: Great! At last I can now watch all my MCE TV, films, vids etc anywhere! Works great on my Alcatel 990 and Archos tablet and I dont think the UI too bad at all. Thank you. Two suggestions that would improve it even more.. 1) Allow move to SD card - I'm running out of space! 2) Group Recorded TV by titles - my wife has 176 episodes of countdown recorded and it takes forever to scroll past them!! |
[2012-02-03] Steven: Permissions U don't need to see my phone calls |
[2012-02-01] Jason: Awesome software The best for on the go scheduling and recording. Thank you. |
[2012-01-30] Patrik: Nice Great app. Please add app2sd though. |
[2012-01-28] YoungLearner: Pretty good... Does what it says except having troubles viewing future scheduled shows. Vplayer works good for me and it has background play. :) Friend has to pay for RP client on ios. Ha! |

[2012-01-17] Sean Eugene: Very Cool for Remote Potato users Thanks for including a primary and secondary server! Videos play beautifully with Rockplayer. Streaming music from my home collection over my tablet while I type this at work. Brilliant! |

[2012-01-07] Dave: Cool as funk After a little bit of fiddling with port forwarding.... Now works a treat. Awesome app. |
[2011-12-26] the 1/5/2012 : Great App! Great support Installed and had a problem with audio. Developer replied almost immediately and we tried 3 or 4 things to get it fixed. Hint: Use rockplayer for video. |

[2011-11-19] Matt: Great App Works great Dell Streak 7 & Droidx. Using Rock Player lite which does skip forward well but I'm sure there is another player that would work better with remote media center for remote potato. |
[2011-11-18] Endri: Great app. |
[2011-11-16] bmeyer24: Awesome Stream from my Media Center computer at home over 3G is great. I also use it to remotely set recordings. |
