Podkicker • Podcast Manager (v. 1.1.0) Разработано skiplist |
An alternative to all the bloated podcatchers out there.
★ It's FREE!
★ Plays audio and videocasts.
★ Handles RSS/ATOM feeds.
★ Streams or downloads podcasts.
★ OPML import/export.
★ Google Listen/Reader import.
★ Recommendations based on current subscriptions.
★ Searchable database with over 65.000 podcasts
★ Browse geotagged podcasts on maps.
★ Easy, clean and intuitive UI.
If you dont like it - dont use it, there are other podcatchers available on android market such as Beyond Pod, DoggCatcher, PodTrapper, Listen, Hapi Podcast, etc.
More features is on the way, but dont expect to many of them since this application is meant to be non-bloated.
Constructive feedback is always appreciated.
Permissions asked for and why they are needed:
§ INTERNET
• to access the internets, downloading audio, video etc.
§ ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE
• to check what kind of connection the phone is currently on; 3G, wifi, etc.
§ WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE
• to save mediafiles on the external storage.
§ READ_PHONE_STATE
• to be able to detect when there is an incoming phonecall so that playback can be paused.
§ MANAGE_ACCOUNTS
§ GET_ACCOUNTS
§ USE_CREDENTIALS
• This is used for requesting authtokens from the accountmanager to authenticate with google reader.
The permissions may sound scary but they are actually for security as it makes your accountmanager (after prompting you) do the authentication with google reader so this app never will have to ask for, save or see any passwords you use with that service.
§ WAKE_LOCK
• To prevent phone from going into standby-mode when audio plays
I receive a lot of emails and feedback (mostly very positive!), this IS appreciated and I read all of them so keep sending, but mostly I have no time to respond as it would take hours each day. Also, there is a lot of questions regarding individual podcasts and their content. I'm not personally involved in any podcasts and i'm not making any money on this app - the ad revenue adds up to a few cents per day - so it wouldn't make sense to spend time answering questions like that.
If you are having problems, read this first.
Podkicker is written to handle feeds that stick to the RSS 2.0 or ATOM 1.0 standards. 99.9% of all podcasts is published in the RSS 2.0-format, which is great. Podkicker can parse and interpret this formats IF and only IF they are VALID and wellwritten and follows the specifications. In most cases when a feed is not working, it's because of networking error or the feed deviates from the standards, such as characters not matching the declared charset, incorrect dateformat, incorrect formatted tags and/or attributes in the xml.
Validate your podcasts here: http://validator.w3.org/feed/
If it's a valid feed and still not working, i am happy to correct it immediately, but I just cannot write one new podkicker for every podcast in existense ;)
Dont expect podkicker (or any other app) to run properly if you are using:
Nightly/unstable/broken custom roms
Automatic taskmanagers, taskkillers or batterysavers.
Some podcasts - and especially some videocasts - wont work at all. This is because podkicker only supports mediaformats that is also supported by the android framework, which amounts to a very large number. But for some unknown reason, some podcast stations choose some very obscure mediaformats like quicktime and others which can only be played on iphones.
Read about the supported mediaformats here:
http://developer.android.com/guide/appendix/media-formats.html
I'm also not responsible for the content in the HUGE database of podcasts that can be searched from within the application. It may contain podcasts with explicit content in various forms. Because of this, I have rated this application as "medium maturity" on android market.

podcasts | podcatcher | rss | manager | player | audioplayer | videocast | netcast
[2012-03-07] Aaron: Business Perfect for all the podcasts that I frequent. |
[2012-03-07] nick: Great app I like the Google reader compatibility and the *very* reliable downloading. Even the ads are tastefully displayed! |
[2012-03-07] mbrsart: Better than Listen Better interface, simpler to use, not as buggy. Doesn't work with NPR's podcasts, but they're doing something weird, and I can get Car Talk only through iTunes. |
[2012-03-06] Big: Gs2 Works just fine! Can stream and download for free. :-D |
[2012-03-06] Nicolas: FAST>>> SIMPLE>>> YEAH!! Smoother, faster. Unlike others. Great app. A few more options would be a PLUS tho. |
[2012-03-06] Cory: Best podcast app on the market Simple interface, complete features without having to purchase a paid version, non-bloated, and much better than BeyondPod! |
[2012-03-05] Peter: Awesome Application - it's free and does the job just perfect ! |
[2012-03-05] refasu: Better than Google Listen Found this after google listen kept deleting my saved podcasts. I love the list showing all episodes of all podcasts. I wish there were a queue feature. |
[2012-03-05] Robert: Spot On Exactly what I needed. |
[2012-03-03] Shane: Does the job and free This would be 5 stars if there was some kind of widget and/or kick screen control. Otherwise, it's the best podcast app I've found |
[2012-03-02] Robert: Great Took forever to find a free podcast app that also did videos. Have not had a problem yet |
[2012-03-01] Prophet: Wow Best.app.ever. been using stitcher for months and this app b-slaps stitcher. Good.looks.dev. |
[2012-03-01] the 3/1/2012 : 401 on passworded feeds No dice. No manual delete. Reminiscent of Carcast. |
[2012-02-29] 德悠翰: Small & easy No frills, simplistic, works great. Only 4 stars because search function is a bit clumsy. |
[2012-02-29] Fahad: Neat Lightweight, not many bells and whistles. But does the job very well |
[2012-02-28] Anne: Not great for video podcast! If you watch video podcast, then this is NOT the program for you. Everytime you open a video podcast, it asks you if you want to use the pod kicker player or an external player! EVERYTIME!!!! No way to set default. Whats more is that there is no difference between either option, because it always plays using the podkicker player. To make matters worse, it doesn't remember where you stopped. It crashes many times and doesn't mark watched vodcasts as watched!!!!! |
[2012-02-28] Franca: Great stuff...I dislike 2 year old pods in my list I would love to be able to limit the time frame in which it fetches pods from my subscriptions. For instance, I don't really need to see a pod from 2 years ago in the list for my subscription. Just a suggestion (might be why the program has been constantly syncing since I added things and have refreshed, though not sure). Otherwise, great app. Keep up the good work, please. |
[2012-02-27] mickey: Freakin awesome! Finally! Thank you! |
[2012-02-27] Sean: Great app! Love the small size, minimalist ui, and very intuitive. Strong work. |
[2012-02-26] Vibhu: Greatest. App. EVER. God must exist. My wish for a decent android podcast app has finally been answered! May be next update can include dl onto the s.d. card only.. |
[2012-02-25] Ashleigh: Wow After months of struggling with Google listen which is a complete piece of crap I decided to try and find another podcast retriever. It took me a while to find this one but it is definitely number one on the market. The search function alone is enough to make those app superior. Thank you so much and I hope that more people download. |
[2012-02-25] Zia: Awsome! Sooooo much better than anything else :DD |
[2012-02-23] amusicsite: Love it. Been looking for a replacement to google listen for ages. This is even better and still free :) |
[2012-02-22] G: Love It!! My brother and I are both hooked. Can't get enough. This and a few other apps are reason to get smartphones! Thank you. D2G |
[2012-02-22] jmomomomomo: I would pay for it Please write a more featuee rich pay for version. I would love to pay for it. I find that other podcast players suck. |
[2012-02-22] Najmi: I'd definitely pay for it Tames the tsunami of channels, playlists and 1E26 cached, queued and listened-to podcasts. I paid >$20 for both Doggcatcher *and* Beyondpod and they were the only reason I kept my old phone. This app kicks butt. |
[2012-02-22] Tashfeen: Android 4.0 Very responsive developer, fixed Android 4 issues! Wish it supported lock screen audio controls (like Google Music). |
[2012-02-21] Ian: Nice light podcast app I like how lightweight this app is compared to some of its competitors. The only thing I'd like to see is the addition of an option to choose what screen the app displays on startup, instead of defaulting to "new." |
[2012-02-21] Uri: yes! finally! the only podcatcher that lists all the cast and isn't bloated with things I don't care about and I've tried every single one that is available on the market |
[2012-02-21] Justin: Great App! Easy to use. Simple design. Well done! |
[2012-02-21] Tyler: Just what I was looking for Easy addition of podcast subscriptions, ability to stream or download, good interface, yep, this does everything I want and it does it very well. No problems on a Droid bionic. |
[2012-02-21] roffe: Staggeringly good Podcasts have opened up a new world to me, and I couldn't imagine a more well executed app to serve that world. Thank you! |
[2012-02-21] digger440uk: Perfect and free I'd gladly pay for this polite but powerful app. Cheers |
[2012-02-21] Jithu: Awesome This one is much better than most of the paid podcast apps out there. |
[2012-02-20] Ben: Gets the job done Missing some features but only compared to paid competitors. Does everything I need it to and it's free. No complaints here. |
[2012-02-20] the 2/20/2012 Good It works very well indeed.. |
[2012-02-19] knagl: It's free and works great! It's free, easy to use, and works great for me, an occasional podcast listener. Thanks for making a great app! |

[2012-02-18] Paul: At last Free, simple to use and does what it says.....excellent |
[2012-02-16] Lex: Best free podcast handler there is! Simple, intuitive, stable, and free! |
[2012-02-16] Andrea: It works well, but the UI its very poor so I cannot give it 5 stars. Also not sure if this was meant to but it not get sync with google reader. |
[2012-02-16] Jacob: Excellent! This app is fantastic! |
[2012-02-15] Charles W: Finally Been looking for podcast app and this is perfect. Does just what you need it to. |
[2012-02-15] Mikey: Works very well Simple, intuitive and problem free. Many thanks to the developer for a great free app. Used every day and much appreciated. |
[2012-02-15] Charles: Excellent App- Thorough and easy to use. I am new to podcasts. This app is very easy to learn and use. It also seems to have access to what I think you would need to use a podcast player. I definitely recommend this app. |
[2012-02-14] william: Yippee Works |
[2012-02-13] Drewbacca, Bird: Works Brilliantly Tried a bunch of players. Can't understand why they're all so complicated and/or don't work well. This one is simple and works like a dream. Love it! Droid Bionic. |
[2012-02-12] Ozzy: Well done. This is an example of a well made app with all the fat trimmed out. No fancy (and mostly unneeded) bells & whistles. It doesn't do a lot but it does what it is designed for very well. |
[2012-02-12] George: Very nice. Good app, simple, quick, and really useful. However, why are there so many duplicates when you search? |
[2012-02-12] Jeff: Excellent I have tried about 5 podcast apps on android now and this is by far the best. Absolutely love it. |
[2012-02-12] Andrew: Thanks podkicker guys Simple to use, works quickly and easily and free too. For too long have struggled to use a paid for app but got this and its bloody brilliant. Cheers |
[2012-02-12] Blusa: Awesome Love it. Would be awsome if you could make ability to organize podcasts/make folders for them, also when streaming podcast - download button for it would be awesome. Often I can't find it again to download. |
[2012-02-11] phatlock: Best podcast app |
[2012-02-11] Nearvana: Perfect! Does exactly what's needed. Slightly quirky interface, but functionally great & small footprint |
[2012-02-10] Alex: Best Still the best of free podcast apss i've found |
[2012-02-10] Sal: Best one I've used! This doesn't have a fancy look to it but it updates better than any other podcast app I've used. It has worked flawlessly since I've downloaded it. It is the one I've been looking for since I bought this phone. Epic 4G. |
[2012-02-10] Will: Podkicker ONly Getting Better Podkicker gets better and better with each update. It is the best free manager in the market! |
[2012-02-10] PeeWaks: @PeeWaks An Exceptional, Well Written, App. Tiny Footprint. Excellent for a freeby! Low on instructions but 5-10mins playing about & U should have it sussed. If U don't use recommended podcast lists &/or want to add your own it's easy. Just use internet browser... goto the RsS feed & tap+hold choosing 'copy' & then paste it in this app. |
[2012-02-09] FAD: Best until now But why does it keep running in the background even after i kill it!!! |
[2012-02-09] AndyM: Fantastic Exactly what I was looking for. Downloads to phone over wifi or 3g, and playing the podcasts is simple. Even scrubbing works well. |
[2012-02-06] Robert: Useless with built in storage I bought the 16GB Motorola Droid Razr. I have 8 GB of internal storage but Podkicker insists on having access to an external SD card. Too bad, hope this is resolved in an upcoming update cause I suspect we will start seeing more phones ship with accessible internal storage. |
[2012-02-06] Bryan: no autodownload google listen is a terrible product, but even it will autodownload podcasts. it isn't even an option in podkicker. |
[2012-02-05] Colin: Just Right Having tried a number of Android podcatchers and uninstalled them the same day, I'd just about resigned myself to carrying on synching from the PC. But this one works just the way I wanted it to, with no fuss or needless complication. Good product. |
[2012-02-04] itoh nobue: Awesome app ! Thank you ! I want to donate :) |
[2012-02-04] JAY: Great light weight app Very simple to use and control. Wish I had an option to chose where I can save my downloaded podcasts, a widget would be nice also and larger playback buttons. |
[2012-02-03] Thad: Excellent!!! Amazing podcast manager that has all the features I need and want. FOR FREE!!!!! It's a clean interface and finds every podcast feed I want. The lack of auto-download is not a major issue for me personally. Very excited I found this app! |
[2012-02-03] Reznuk: Excellent Great functional podcast player. |
[2012-02-03] Ikatono: Could use some basic features Works pretty well, but there are some definite flaws, like not being able to store podcasts on an SD card or add files that weren't downloaded through it. |
[2012-02-02] Zack: zhiguly I have been searching through the jungle of podcast streamers since I switched to android. Cannot find one as easy to use as podcasts! on Windows. This one shows I have a subscription, but does not show episodes, nor does it stream. This is the free version, I am afraid to pay for it, if it doesn't work. Uninstall. |
[2012-02-02] jooliargh: So close... Love the simplicity, would pay for ver with auto download, no use to me without :( |
[2012-02-02] Mike: Just works This is a simple, easy to use app that pretty much does what you want it to do. The only thing I might change would be to give the ability to set up automatic downloads. Although, to be fair, an unlimited data plan largely makes up for this. Love the setting that auto-deletes an audio file once it has been completely listened to. |
[2012-02-01] Kenny: Great Graphical interface is meh but otherwise does everything I need. Great app! |
[2012-01-31] blaine00: Best podcast client Once you get used to it, this is by far the best app for podcasting in the market. Perfect! |
[2012-01-30] t0Okie: Working now For some reason feeds weren't working. Now they are. Still have issues with some video feeds not working though. Is there a widget? Good job. Just needs a little more work |
[2012-01-30] Tim: Wow. What a step up in class Much better than the app I was previously using. |
[2012-01-29] michael: F Great little app. Simple, but effective. |
[2012-01-29] Merry Joy: This works great & its simple! I've been searching for a long time for a good podcast player that wasn't too complicated for me to use on my HTC EVO! |
[2012-01-28] Smoka206: Awesome Best tool I've found for podcasts, simple, easy to subscribe to feeds. Way better than Google currents or any of the top free ones. |
[2012-01-28] James: Droid3 Took me a little to figure out how to download or feed ..... once I did its seems like its going to be clean, robust and appears to beat the iods degault player - oh and it looks good too! |
[2012-01-27] Molly: Less is more Easy to use. Does what you want without a million extra confusing options. |
[2012-01-27] Bob: This is the one you're looking for This is how podcast management should be. Outstanding app. |

[2012-01-25] the 1/26/2012 Kicks butt Works great, I finally found a good working app for downloading Alex Jones' InfoWars.com! |
[2012-01-24] Chee-Chiu: Superb Brilliant, just works |
[2012-01-23] Thomas: The best Thanks Dev for your hard work |
[2012-01-23] angie: Excellent Samsung Galaxy S2 Easy to use, works well. One gripe - the search function does not do well -as others have noted. This can be overcome by accessing the desired Web site. |
[2012-01-23] Diamond7: Fast and clean Excellent App, just try it and you'll see :-) |
[2012-01-23] Paulo: Lacks auto-download This just needs an "auto download if new episode found" feature, and it's pretty much the best podcast utility out there. |
[2012-01-23] Mark: The best by far At last, after trying every podcast app I could find, this one does the job extremely well and is very easy to use. |
[2012-01-23] Kyoritsu: Video playback works on backflip 2.1 great job man, you earned that last star and downloads work better now as well. How bout a paid add free version. |
[2012-01-23] Rullaf: Top notch Best podcast app out there. Yet I'd rather see a traditional android design (especially the new ics compliant). |
[2012-01-22] wesley: Nice and simple Works great with nexus 1. Thanks! |
[2012-01-22] Vivian : Nice Pretty good for a free app! Does exactly what it says on the tin. |
[2012-01-22] Noah: Fantastic! The best podcast player on Android. Simple and reliable. |
[2012-01-22] CL: Excellent app I've tried a LOT of podcatchers and this one is slim, fast, easy, organized, reliable, AND FREE. Developer works hard on this app and there are periodic but not constant updates (the sign of a careful developer) Thanks for the hard work! |
[2012-01-22] George: Uncomplicated and effective A good app. Easy to use, does what you need it to do and no unnecessary annoying features! |
[2012-01-22] Charles: Simple & effective No nonsense, does all it needs to in strait forward manner. |
