This book was written in 1922 by A. H. Gray (1868 - 1956), a minister in Glasgow. It is an interesting look at liberal, Christian sexual morality at a time when attitudes towards sex were rapidly changing.
In many ways Gray is remarkably modern and open minded, and much of the advice he gives would benefit people in any era. He is highly supportive of women's rights and equality.
He urges parents to teach children about sex in ways we would now call "age appropriate," and never to lie to them.
For example, when a small child asks "where do babies come from" the parent should say "from inside their mommy" rather than the sort of answer that was common back then such as "the stork brings them."
He thinks that parents have a duty to bear children, but not too many, and after some hemming and hawing he approves of the use of contraceptives.
He thinks husbands should share the burden of housekeeping and taking care of children.
Gray's views are conventional. He opposes sex before marriage. He despises prostitution. He warns against masturbation specifically, and other "perversions" which he does not list or describe, except to say that the word "homosexual" had recently been coined, and some experts were suggesting that it was a natural phenomenon, not a sin or perversion.
Gray disagrees, but he is fair and open minded enough to report these views.
Highly recommend for anyone interested in social history and the history of sex education and sexual morality.
