The purpose of this application is to inform and provide advice to people worried about the consequences of events that are happening in Japan, in a pleasant way to facilitate their assimilation.
This application will help you to learn ...
... what are dangerous levels of radiation.
... where to check radiation levels in your city.
... which instruments are used for them.
... what are the symptoms of radiation contamination.
... the harm they cause to health.
... what drugs are for treatment.
... what foods are more sensitive to radioactive contamination.
... that food supplements help to reduce the risks in case of contamination.
... really how to protect that you want
... etc.
Reality is always stranger than fiction, who would have thought would happen an earthquake measuring 9 as the Japanese suffered a few days ago and would have to sacrifice as well, more human lives to control a serious nuclear incident as occurred in Fukushima with unpredictable consequences.
The European Union speaks of "Nuclear Apocalypse" in Japan.
Our proposal is to have valuable information, so that if similar events occurs in your area, be prepared to make the right decisions that can protect your family and friends, preserve food and prevent serious illness in the future.
Governments do not always provide all the information to its citizens, we have seen repeatedly in recent days. We provide the basics for you to "read between the lines" on the news you hear and can anticipate risk situations.
Note that it is usual more common than it appears to face risk situations similar to those of Japan. May not live near a nuclear power plant and think it never will be exposed to such risks, this is not true, radioactive materials are used in many industrial sectors (radiology, electronics, research ...), and we have no sure that no accidents with these materials near our home.
Remember some moments in history:
Spain, May 1998: A plant of the company Acerinox melting a source of scrap contaminated with cesium-137, causing a radioactive cloud.
Japan, July 16, 2007: A magnitude 6.8 earthquake caused damage to the nuclear power plant in Niigata (the largest in the world). Early reports announced a discharge into the environment more than 1200 liters of radioactive water, but the company that owns the plant confirmed shortly after they had been more (unspecified).
Goiania (Brazil), September 1987, two people robbed a source of cesium-137 in a radiation therapy center left. The source passes through several hands, causing four deaths, as many serious injuries and more than 270 people irradiated.
Britain, April 19, 2005: a solution of 20 tons of uranium and 160 kg of plutonium in 83,000 liters of nitric acid was unknowingly suffering losses for several months in the plant Thorp nuclear fuel reprocessing.
Indian Ocean, April 21, 1964: U.S. artificial satellite reentered the atmosphere at an altitude of 46 km above the Indian Ocean. The satellite's SNAP generator contained 16 kCi (590 TBq of plutonium-238), which was partly burnt during reentry. Four months after the accident, found elevated levels of plutonium-238 in the stratosphere.
Argentina 1983, was a serious accident at the research reactor RA-2 in the Atomic Center, Buenos Aires. There was a reaction out of control that a worker was exposed to 2,000 rad of gamma radiation and 1,700 rad of neutrons, which caused his death two days later. The energy release occurred in about 50 to 70 milliseconds!
Another 17 persons located outside the reactor room received doses ranging from 35 rad (0.35 Gy) and less than 1 rad (0.01 Gy). The accident was classified as Level 4 on the INES scale.
The list continues, but with these few examples we can imagine the danger we face every day.
PL Nuclear Alert already is in spanish and english.
