The BEST aurora and solar flare app for Android - Solaris Alpha gives you features the others don't!
*** UPDATE: Cloud imagery is currently unavailable. Despite several attempted fixes this weekend, Solaris still encounters errors when it attempts to retrieve cloud map data. After talking with the webmaster of the cloud map server, I understand why; the webmaster is blocking access by Android apps, including Solaris. He took this step after an Android app made repeated image requests separated by 5 seconds, from a single phone, chewing up his server bandwidth. The webmaster has very kindly agreed to give Solaris access to the data again, after I've made changes to the app that will eliminate the chance for bad behavior. Hopefully I'll make these changes in the next few days, and Solaris' cloud display will be back on the air!

Solaris Alpha's 3D Sun view displays the latest xray flares and sunspots on our home star, at four extreme ultraviolet wavelengths. Effortlessly move around the Sun and zoom into interesting regions with a touch of your finger!
But there's more - this app also features a realtime 3D view of Earth's aurora, cloud-cover, and sunlight. Watch northern and southern lights, storms, and sunshine move across our planet - all in the palm of your hand!
The application uses data from NASA STEREO, SDO and NOAA polar orbiter spacecraft - downloaded from outer space to your phone. Solaris Alpha alerts you with a ringtone when new solar flares are detected, geomagnetic storm level increases, or when the aurora may be visible from your phone's location. If you are interested in solar astronomy and space weather, you need this app!

The app's storm/aurora/flare detector automatically starts when your phone boots, and you will receive alerts whether or not SolarisAlpha is running (uncheck "Start detector at boot" from Solaris' "Settings" menu to disable auto-start on boot). PLEASE NOTE: Android does NOT support start-on-boot of apps stored on the SD card, so you must install SolarisAlpha on your phone to enable this feature.
PLEASE NOTE: The cloud map server used by Solaris is not currently providing reliable access. I've added a settings option to enable/disable cloud display; please disable clouds if the Earth globe appears black.
