iGeology (v. 3.0) Разработано British Geological Survey |
iGeology - Interactive geological mapping of the UK.
iGeology is for anyone who wants to explore their local geology, at street-level scale, virtually anywhere in the UK.
Amateur geologists, walkers and gardeners can look at what’s in their local area, to find out about the rocks at the surface (superficial deposits) or the bedrock beneath.
Search on place names or the postcode where you live, then click on the map and reveal the rocks beneath your feet. iGeology will locate your phone (if GPS is enabled) and zoom to your location.
Drag the person icon onto the map for a 3D view of the geological landscape.
The maps use the British Geological Survey’s national scale (1:625 000) and ‘Landranger’ scale (1:50 000) geological datasets of the United Kingdom (UK).
Map coverage
5% of 1:50000 scale data is unavailable for England, Scotland and Wales.
Only 1:625 000 scale data is available for Northern Ireland.
iGeology is intended for non-commercial use e.g. private study, research and educational activities. For commercial use of BGS data email: digitaldata@bgs.ac.uk

[2012-11-17] A Google User: 5 * Brilliant app 5* interesting to know whats under your feet! |
[2012-11-09] A Google User: Good...but.... Would be great to have access to borehole info as on the onshore geoindex website....that would make it a 5star app! |
[2012-11-04] A Google User: Rocks! Great app, but would be good to be able to zoom in further to make selection of small features, e.g. dykes, easier. |
[2012-10-27] A Google User: Dream app! Shows what's possible with android - unbelievably sexy data presentation |
[2012-09-27] A Google User: Brilliant app! |
[2012-09-20] A Google User: Great Great quality, well behaved and can be moved to the SD card. |
[2012-09-04] A Google User: Brilliant pocket guide Great guide to what's under your feet or that spurious rocky outcrop. Co. Fermanagh doesn't get a look in though. |
[2012-08-23] A Google User: Wow Nerd fun and very interesting. |
[2012-08-15] A Google User: Does exactly what it says Great for anybody with any interest in geology or the outdoors in general. At last I know both the type of rock I'm looking at and its age, and in so much detail. It's much easier to use than a geological map, and far more information. Note a 3g or better signal is needed, as the map is detailed. Only problem I've found in my area is that sometimes slate is described as sedimentary rather than metamorphic. They give the correct age when the sedimentary rock was laid down, but it does make that particular rock type a bit confusing. |
[2012-08-09] A Google User: Gallery problem fixed! The latest version doesn't put maps in the Gallery. If after upgrading, any maps from the previous version remain in your Gallery, delete folder /Android/data/org.bgs to get rid of them. |
[2012-07-30] A Google User: Very good application. Need further zoom and explanation of colour codes. |
[2012-07-24] A Google User: Brilliant app. All of British geology at you fingertips. I wish I had this 30 years ago! |
[2012-07-23] A Google User: Good and... Essential for the roving geophysicist and hobbyist alike! Good work |
[2012-05-08] A Google User: Brilliant and easier to use than a geological map Using Scroll Excel with Android 4. Easy to zoom to street level. To find out what the map colours signify just rest your finger on the part you are interested in and a description of the type of geological formation pops up. It usually offers you a link to even more data about the formation, albeit in technical geology speak. But then this is an app from the British Geological Survey so I would expect it to be technical. In response to some earlier comments I have had no issues with my gallery, having played with this all afternoon. [Edit: Well I have now! I also found a long list of random blurred geology pictures when using my file manager. However I used a different file manager and I could not find them? It appears that some file managers confuse the cache with the gallery! I have since found an identical effect with OS maps. The setting menu on my Scroll Excel gives the option of clearing the cache for each application so that is an easy option if it worries you.] |
[2012-04-04] A Google User: Uninstalling Filled my gallery with folders called '1', '2' etc - each containing random snapshots of bits of geological maps at crazy angles. Left a message at BGS by doing their online survey.. |

[2012-03-20] A Google User: Excellent field guide Handy little field guide to UK geology. Could benefit from another zoom level, but it's free, so I shouldn't complain. |

[2011-10-28] A Google User: Not as good for Northern Ireland Larger scale maps only and no details for NI. Could also do with a key to show what the colours mean. |
[2011-10-15] A Google User: Great Geology App One of the best geo apps ever. But why the random images added to my gallery? Doesn't happen on an iphone, so why on an android? Fix that & it's 5* |
