No push I don't normally write reviews at all.. This one though has just solved months of frustration that I have had with Hangouts. All my complaints about the lacking's of hangouts are resolved with 1 simple free app. Update: from 5 stars to 1.. There is no push.. this means a ton more data used and shorter battery life.. hard for me to believe that any chat apps still around without push..

Perfect. This is the best XMPP client for the Android platform that exists. It's literally perfect, and as perfect as any XMPP client app is ever going to be for the Android platform.

The Best Google Talk Replacement This is by far the cleanest and best Google Talk replacement out there for anyone with 4.3 JB. It goes above and beyond what Talk offered minus the video and voice. While it could use some remake when it comes to the design, like chat view not so compact and maybe enable some themes for the chat bubbles and the background, it is not that big of a deal considering it is adfree. Contacts permission is required for phonebook integration. Not to spy on you.

I rarely give 5 stars This app has all the features I wanted. I love that it shows a notification icon even when you have no notifications just so I know when I am on or off. Great Program, Needs Chat Log Synchronization Xabber is a fantastic, multiprotocol Jabber client. It is efficient, and reliable. The only hang up I have about committing to Xabber over Hangouts is chat log synchronization between devices. Hangouts currently has it, and Xabber does not. Otherwise it is perfect.

Great substitute for Google Talk After Google forcefully discontinued Google Talk on Android 4.3 with that poor handicapped version of Hangouts I was looking for a decent replacement to continue using the core functionality of Google Talk (and Hangouts for that matter) - text instant messaging. Xabber is just exactly what you would expect from an instant messaging app, and it's easily configurable, easy to use, has a neat notifications interface and overall great level of customization. Suits my needs really well. Two issues that I wish will be fixed in upcoming versions - * the certificate validation feature doesn't work for Google Apps domains, and once it's checked, that it's enabled/disabled for all accounts. Not a big deal, but certainly nice to have for security paranoids. * If I remove the permanent activity icon from the notifications bar, I don't see notifications for new messages unless I specifically expand the notifications area.

Notifications Notifications in active chats are unnecessary. I don't need ringing, and vibration if I see. It's annoying. Also lack of invisible status for Gmail. But the most annoying is ringing while GSM call.

It handles the IMs allows you to customize priorities so you can have it running with your desktop at the same time and route messages well, etc. My one gripe is that it has notification icon that shows at all times, even when offline. My Go to solution for XMPP/Jabber I've used a ton of IM clients for Android, and this one beats them all by *working* correctly. It's reliable, and relatively easy to use (could be easier, but look at the competition...) Also, the app shows its age - its an OLD school android app and it shows. Xabber doesn't strip HTML in otr https trac dot adium dot im/ticket/6901 shows that HTML tags aren't going away, yet when using otr xabber isn't stripping said tags. Also, push messaging would help with battery drain. Otherwise decent app!
